    Still no news?
I think we can declare that the project dead, really sad because it seemed to be a good mod to play FF8 :( :( :(

Dont sweat it. I think alot of people forget we do these projects in our spare time and real life comes first. I'm more so on the hackers side of things, but It's understandable when some modders start a project and then no updates for a long time.

You can't pause the world whenever you want so you just have to take it one day at a time. Nice mod!

You may not be, but this project certainly seems to be.

I know this can be frustrating for people who want to use this mod still, if there still are people who want to use it, I have no idea. But the brutal honest truth is that I will likely work on this mod again the next time I get a craving to play the game, which hasn't been for a long time, the last time I played it took a lot out of me and I know that digging back into this mod requires a lot of re-familiarizing myself with stuff that has nothing to do with the game itself and processes I haven't used in a long time, on the plus side, if/when I do decide to tackle this mod again, much of the work is done and mostly I would just need to play the game and make notes on anything about it that I'm not liking, and then fix just those things. I also have the ability to draw and fix the characters in the backgrounds by hand using a drawing tablet now, which even given my horrible drawing skills, I'm sure will be a massive improvement along with simply just fixing some of the things that the auto-generated images aren't very good at, I'm not a graphic artist or any kind of an artist to be honest, but I do have some pretty good skills that I feel can be an asset to really polishing this off quite nicely. On top of this, I have also gained some 3D design knowledge and may have the ability to push this project much further into even improving the 3D graphics to some degree, and I wouldn't be surprised if there is now a way to alter the backgrounds for the newer version as well which many people have asked about, but the last I checked, still wasn't a possibility, but it's been years so I'd be surprised if someone hasn't cracked that egg at this point as well.

Bottom line, I need to have an urge to play the game AND be able to devote a couple more months into it in order to finish and polish this project off, when that will happen, I have no idea. Life takes priority, and I'm afraid that this project isn't even remotely on my todo list at this point. I could get excited to play this game next week or not for another 10 years, I wish I could offer more, but it is what it is. This game falls under the category of Skyrim and Minecraft for me, I have a life-long passion to play these games, but when I get around to playing them I never know, and this one is definitely at the bottom of my all-time favorite games to play list, but it is on it and always will be, there's a nostalgic aura to it that always pulls be back eventually.

The unfortunate reality is that you should basically forget about this mod, but keep checking on it just in case, one day, you may just log in to see it polished and cleaned up as you've always wanted it, and I hope that eventually happens myself. I honestly don't even know how broken this mod is, I've never even used it, I've only poked around a bit with it installed and then got burned out and gave up on it and moved onto other things.

I don't use nexus much these days, but I always come back, so as long as these mods are posted, you can expect that I probably have hopes on working on them again sooner or later, it's not a job, it's a hobby. I'm getting old (currently 47) but I ain't that old yet and I'm still alive and kicking, and surprisingly enough, still reading/replying to my comments from time to time.

Believe me, I wish it was finished also, and it bothers me that it isn't.

I understand reading through the comments that this is something you have stepped away from, and not felt much need to go back to, thus far.

As such I just want to add a +1 to the hopes you pick it back up some day.
I check this page about once every month on average, since it was originally reported in Kotaku in 2019 - to see if there has been any changes.

I think the Moguri mod for FFIX is one of the very best mods for any game, ever.
I'd love to see VIII get even close to the same treatment.

GUM is very very outdated. Start with this link:

      https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=391096600

The FF8 modding scene is pretty much at the same level as 7th Heaven and Moguri. Some assembly required, but my fully modded FF8 is superior to the so-called Remaster.

EDIT: If you are interested in the info I posted, I strongly recommend Project Angelwing v3.0 (Gigapixel upscaling) over Project Eden. Angelwing looks amazing and very clear/crisp.

This mod looks incredible! Please don't give up on it, I put over 720hrs into FF8 as a kid and would love to revisit it one day. Know my way around Unity and C# should you need any help, well done for getting it looking this good so far, IMO it looks way better than the official remaster!

Thankyou, I'm glad you like it. I just wish it was more complete. It's so close, yet so far. I have a tablet now though, and have been working on 3D modeling a bit. So the re-drawing of the characters (one of the biggest issues that stopped me to begin with) can be relatively easily fixed simply by indentifying which images have them and simply redrawing them, even with my horrible drawing skills, I'm sure they'd turn out more than good enough and still better than the originals and certainly better then the state this mod puts them in. Other than that, afaik, there's just some weird checkered issues with some of them, I'm guessing something was 'off' in my script, because before I stopped working on this, I did verify that the image were converting properly if done by hand instead, so there must of been something I missed that's causing this and just need to identify and correct that.

I haven't completely given up on this yet, but I still couldn't say for certain when I'll pick it up again either unfortunately.

Hello! I just wanted to ask if there is a way for me to view all image files in a way similar to the screenshots posted, since i intend to print them out on paper.

It's been so long since I've looked at this, I probably won't be giving accurate advice. But if iirc, it's packed the same way the original game files are, but they go in your data folder or something. There is a tool you can get, probably on qhimm website, that you can use to extract all the original images from the game. This was repacked the same way, and iirc, can be unpacked again using this same method. Sorry if I'm wrong, like I said, it's been a long time and until I get the urge to dig back into this again, that's the best answer I can give you unfortunately. But at least, I don't think I'm wrong. haha

As far as I know, this isn't possible at the moment, the good folks over at Qhimm Forums seem to be trying to get at the backgrounds for the remastered version, if this becomes a possibility, I may look into producing another version for the remastered, but I make no promises, I still need to fix the issues with this one still.
