oh thanks, i was thinking about that, one thing would be increasing it to 1.20 or something, now 2.00? 2x times? Dang, tehre should be an option to choose :C
If you launch your game with Nova Chrysalia as "Unpacked Mode" then:
Backup all the files inside 8000 folder FIRST! (steamapps/common/FinalFantasyXIII/white_data/sound/pack/8000)
Put the backup in a safe place!
Then delete all .scd files in this folder. Now all BGMs in the game will be disabled. The Cutscenes will always have background music because it is a pre-rendered video, unless there is no BGM in the video file.
So for anyone having trouble with the Mute Mod, you need to take the files from the Sound folder in the Mute Mod archive and extract them into the Sound-> pack-> 8000-> USA folder. Here is a step by step for you folks who have downloaded the Mute Mod and are trying to get it to work: 1. Ignore Mod Authors ReadME.txt, its useless.
2. Backup files from sys folder in FF13 directory (steamapps/common/FinalFantasyXIII/white_data/sys).
3. Make a separate "work" folder just inside your Final Fantasy 13 directory or if you are already modding FF13 and have one: use your FF13 tweaks folder for the next step.
4. Open up BGM OFF Mute Archive. Open the ff13toolupdated archive and extract its contents into the new work folder or FF13 tweaks folder. Keep the BGM OFF Mute Archive open on your desktop.
5. Copy or Cut white_imgu.win32.bin and filelistu.win32.bin from sys folder in the Final Fantasy 13-> white_data directory and drop them into the work or tweaks folder.
6. Within your work or tweaks folder drag white_imgu.win32.bin over extract_imgu.bat. The .bat will do its thing with the black command window, wait until you get the "...press any key to continue" at the end of the process to close. Once you close the window the extraction will create a "white_imgu" folder in work or tweaks location.
7. Open up this new white_imgu folder. Follow to this location: Sound-> pack-> 8000-> usa. Keep this window opened.
8. Open up the sound folder from the BGM OFF Mute archive. Select all files from this location and drop them into the USA folder. Overwrite all files and close the BGM OFF Mute archive.
9. Go back to work or tweaks folder. Drag white_imgu.win32.bin over repack_imgu.bat. The repack will do its thing, wait for the "....press any key to continue" at the end of the process to close the window. Once you have closed the .bat, drag and drop both the white_imgu.win32.bin and filelistu.win32.bin files back into the sys folder (steamapps/common/Final Fantasy XIII/white_data/sys).
10. Run Final Fantasy 13 and get to the Main Menu. The Main Menu Theme Music "The Promise" shouldn't play. If it doesn't play, you have gotten the Mute Mod to work.
This method worked for me. I still get Music with CGI Cutscenes because of course. I'm playing with English voices. If you are playing with Japanese voices I believe you need to do these same steps but with white_imgc.win32.bin and filelistc.win32.bin but I am not sure and haven't tried this method.
I confirm that the good tutorial from F310 also works for the regular version (not mute) of the mod, and with Japanese files. You just have to use white_imgC.win32.bin (instead of white_imgU...) and filelistC.win32.bin. And the extracted folder is just Sound>Pack>8000, without USA subfolder. Anyways, for my tastes, the music is way too loud with this mod. You can barely hear voices and effects.
good mod, it cost me to understand the instructions but I managed to do it, can you make a version with the volume a little lower? the voices of the characters are barely heard, I think 1.5 instead of 2 would be good

Please, how did you convert the music file back to scd?
Or did you somehow edit it without converting?
