I'm trying to edit the crystarium, but when I decompress the editor every time I click "Extract" it tells me that was able to locate all of the necessary files and to click OK, then when I do it says there is a "Path/file access error". I have tried running the spreadsheet from my downloads folder and also moving it to the game directory to see if that did anything, but to no avail. I do have Excel, and it is not an online version of it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
In the directory where you put the mod (excel file), did it create another file called "Extract.bat" after you clicked "OK"?
Doing a quick google search results in this:
A path file access error occurs when the operating system can't connect a file name to a path. This error can happen when opening, creating, changing, or removing a file or directory. Possible causes The file is read-only The file is locked by another program The file or directory is protected The file specification is not formatted correctly The file has been moved or deleted The antivirus software is blocking the file
Potential causes would be that the directory you have put the mod in is "protected" by Windows for some reason, the other potential cause is your antivirus software is blocking the creation of the file.
If it did create the "extract.bat" file, then I can suggest other options.
Hey GreenThumb2 - not sure if you're still monitoring this, but I've found a way to add certain auto abilities to the Crystarium after doing some VBA editing (thanks for writing such straightforward code!!). I've added some user images as evidence. Let me know if you want to work together on an update - I'm sure you could figure it out yourself though!
Honestly, I probably will not be doing anything else with this mod. This is the first one I published and it has limited value due to the requirement of using Excel. Excel provided an easy graphical interface, but other than that, there are simpler ways of editing the Crystarium.
Hey Beelzepog, quick question: I would really love to try and add these to my own game, but I quickly hit a snag: how do you find the IDs for auto-abilities? I've poked around the VBA editor so I think I'll manage to figure out how to add them myself, but the only ability IDs I can find are the ones already added to the editor. I'm looking through the Cheat Engine but I've little experience with it and have become lost while looking. I'll probably manage to brute-force my way through it eventually, but if you could point me in the right direction for the IDs it would be such a big help to me.
It sounds incredibly interesting and would really revolutionize the editor for me; I've long thought about experimenting and adding certain auto-abilities to different crystariums. Along with stat changes it would really allow for more specialized and distinct characters in my custom challenge runs. I felt compelled to ask you after seeing your screenshots, I almost couldn't believe it'd be possible.
If you're interested in modding this game, I'd recommend joining the FNC: Modding Community discord server. You can find a link to it on the right side of the FinalFantasyXIII subreddit main page.
@Beelzepog Thank you kindly for the quick reply. It is apparently only possible to send DMs through the Nexusmods forums right now, so I sent you a message over there. I hope it's not an inconvenience for you, and hope that we can exchange the files there! @GreenThumb2 Thank you for notifying me. I have joined the Discord just now and look forward to participating and learning more about modding in the future. Thank you for the help, and I apologize for the necropost.
@GreenThumb2 Please add auto abilities!!! That would be so amazing! I'd love to create a Lightning and Sazh with a high thunder and fire resistance in their crystarium. In line with their respective elements. And maybe I can give Vanille four death resistance in her crystarium so I only need to equip one accessory to give her the vampiric strike passive ability.
I had a quick question which I can't seem to find an answer to online. Would this mod let you access the optional roles for characters that gets unlocked normally at chapter 10?
According to my own testing, you can set the cost to 0 for their secondary roles and you're able to use them right off the bat in chapter 3. It might be a bit buggy and not always work.
So I played through ff13 when it first came out and recently picked it back up for a second playthrough. Then I remembered how utterly tedious the leveling was and decided to get a mod to help with that..... I have everything needed except the tzarsectus ff13 tool... and the direct download is down and won't load and I cannot for the life of me find a single alternative download for it.
Is there anywhere I can get this one file required to make any of this work or am I just boned?
This mod doesn't work with the Japanese voice pack, right? Do you have any idea why it would force me to use the Japanese audio after I began using the mod? I inserted all of the characters' edits into the game, and then launched it with English sound settings, but it's using Japanese audio, which I've never used anytime before now. I restart the game over and over and it refuses to use the English audio. I've started a new game, by the way. I haven't gotten to Chapter 3 yet to see if the Crystarium changes went through, but I expect them to be default since you said it doesn't work with the Japanese audio. I'm scared to try and do anything because I've spent 14 - 15 of the last 24 hours working on this.
It should work with both the Japanese and English versions, loading the modified crystarium files into each. It has nothing to do with which language you use. That should be determined by what you select in the launcher.
