Crossposted on Reddit and Steam's FFXII forums, but wanted to post it here as well. Here's a quick update on the SFF mod:

Posted this on Reddit, but also wanted to post this here as well. Also, as a heads up, even though I haven't been super active in this thread for a while I have read each response and will be taking the feedback accordingly, when applicable and when it makes sense! :)

Hey everyone! Wanted to give a quick update on the state of the FFXII Struggle for Freedom mod for those on here who follow it, since I know that folks will frequently come on here to ask for advice/help with the mod.

The last update was back in August 2020 - that was almost 4 years ago! It's crazy how much time flies. Since that time I haven't really had the time or mental energy to come back to working on SFF in a significant capacity, especially since it's at a state where I'm more-or-less happy with everything and it's aligned with what I wanted it to be from the beginning. So between that and life (I've been busy with work, bought a house, and have dealt with some health challenges - all things that take away precious modding time!), I just haven't really had the will to work on any huge updates.

I do want to let everyone know however that despite that I am working on an update that will likely be out sometime next year. No solid ETA/timeline on that yet, but the goal is to push out one final update and put SFF to bed for good, so I can potentially work on other things in the future. The next update won't likely be anything too fancy- bug fixes, some balance tweaks, QOL updates, that sort of thing. If you're on the fence about playing SFF but want to wait for an update, I wouldn't necessarily recommend that, since the next update probably won't be changing things too drastically (as of right now... who knows what'll happen as development continues). I've already knocked out a significant number of changes, but there's still a lot of other tedious things to edit.

For those who've been playing the Proud Mode beta, I'm also hoping to get that out of beta at some point next year. A number of QOL changes and other things folks enjoyed in Proud Mode will make it over to the "normal" version of the mod, such as faster Potion animations.

Thank you to everyone who has played the SFF mod since its initial release in 2018! In those 5 years I've received such good feedback and have received so many wonderful messages from folks who've enjoyed exploring the incredible world of Ivalice with the SFF mod. I'd also encourage people to try out some of the other fantastic FFXII mods on Nexus- the FFXII modding community is one of the most passionate modding communities I've seen and everyone there works so hard on their projects.

TLDR; the SFF mod will likely be getting a final update sometime next year and I thank you all for being awesome. :)

Hey everyone! Having trouble getting the installation to work?

Check out this great video by Talanath. His steps differ a bit from the Readme's, but the end result is the same. Hopefully this helps!

I'm trying to get this to work on Steam Deck. I've seen multiple people post online that they've gotten it to work on there, but none of the suggestions they provide seem to work. I'm not an expert but can absolutely follow directions when give. Does anyone have any step by step instructions for getting it to work on Steam Deck, either via Vortex or Draklab?

    Mimic Queen broke my brain.

did it really need to be that fkn hard dude?

35 potions, 2 hi potions, an Elixer and an Ether

why does it need to use Shockstrike every 12 seconds?

You DO realize we have no AOE heals yet?

Or do the "freedom" classes or whatever they are called have Cura by then? Because I am using "rebalanced classes" and I sure don't have Cura yet...

beating this thing was neither rewarding nor satisfying. I just felt lucky.

was enjoying the mod until then

How difficult can it be if I have seen YouTube videos with this mod, the truth is it doesn't look very difficult. Rather, I want to increase the difficulty more with another mod besides this one.

    Hi everyone !

I desperately need help for the installation of Struggle for Freedom. I asked for help on Reddit (see my post https://www.reddit.com/r/FinalFantasyXII/comments/1cm9hcb/struggle_for_freedom_mod_installation_issue/) but without succes yet...

If someone can help me to solve my problem, it would be fantastic !

    Here’s what’s wrong :

I tried to install the mod with the Vortex app, and also with Draklab. In both cases, I manage to install the mod. I know it's installed because when I launch the game, the opening image is modified to reflect the mod (Vayne Solidor's image). So it should be good, right ? But it’s not, because when I launch a new game, nothing of the game itself is modified... So the mod is installed, but not really in fact... So you know : when I launch a new game, enemies are as weak as TZA version, Reks has only white and fire dark magic, jobs are not modified,…

I also tried with old versions of this mod, but same result.

To check if all mods are broken or just this one, I installed another mod (Vaan White Shirt) with Draklab, and that mod is working in game ! The main character (Vaan) has a new outfit. So it means that mods work on my computer, but not SFF ?! It's so wierd.

For the Vortex install, I followed every step carefully in Talanath's video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBC7chKPCsg

There must be a "simple" explanation, but I can't see it...

How is that possible, would you have an idea to resolve this problem ? I'd really love to play with this SFF mod haha, FFXII is one of my best childhood memories ! If you have an idea to help, I would really appreciate it :)

I posted the same message on Nexus Mods's Discord in Modding-help today.

Hi there, thank you for this mod!

After playing quite a bit, i noticed that i dont have knuckles / the thiefgloves removal despite the rebalanced jobs working.
(still getting handbombs, quasimodo not giving 30% resist ect)

is there something i have to do to get the other changes to work?

    thank you in advance

Weird question is their an option to get the firefly effects of gaining no EXP back again? Want to challenge myself to a low level run, but not having the zero EXP accessory kind of prevents that.

same question from me.  I have spent 2 days trying to get it to work without success.  From vortex, it shows external file loader, lua loader and SFF mod are all enabled and deployed, I then move the FFXII folder from the vortex C-drive folder to the steamapp/common folder... then load the game and its unmodded.

Just need a manual install guide.  Not a fan of Vortex in these circumstances.

The SFF documentation says that in Cerobi Steppe-North Liavell Hills there are several great treasures including the Minerva Bustier, Kaiser Knuckles, Dragon Helm, Rubber Suit, etc. It also says that the chance of getting gil is 100%. If the change for gil is 100% then that means there is a 0% chance to get treasure....so why is there treasure in the 5% w/Diamond Armlet spot??? Is it actually impossible to get any of these items or is this a mistake in the documentation?
