I've now included an automatic installer to reduce the time it takes to install the mod down to less than a minute.
Quick Config Mod Manager Users: Make sure to set your quick config mod manager to launch Fallout76.exe directly instead of launching through Steam.
Mod Organizer 2 Users: Ensure you are running a "Portable" Instance of MO2 for Fallout 76. Global Instances may cause issues.
Vortex Users: It just works!
Installation: Easy Method: (Recommended) 1: Run the "Automatic F.A.S.L Installer" to automatically handle 90% of the setup process. 2: Copy your "Launch Options" in the installer window and paste it into Steams Fallout 76 Launch commands field. 3: Launch game through Steam and give the program the path to the Mod Manager you're using.
Is there any way to use F.A.S.L to also close my mod manager when I exit the game? Right now, when I exit to desktop from Fallout 76 the game will not terminate in Steam until I manually exit my mod manager.
But isn't there an easier way to do this? You download the Mod Manager, and click on "Sent" and "Sent to Desktop". Now you have the Mod Manager always on your Desktop. Or do I understand something wrong here?
Yes, you can absolutely keep a shortcut on your desktop instead of using this mod :)
But this mod basically redirects Steams Fallout 76 "Play" button to open your mod manager instead. It's basically a QOL/Convenience mod for users who just want to click play in steam to play the game, rather than relying on desktop shortcuts or windows explorer directory navigation to find Thier mod manager first in order to play.
Personally, I hate desktop icons so I use the "hide desktop icons" option which just shows a clean desktop. I'm a big fan of clean aesthetics so this option would be ideal for my situation. Plus, I just like making things easier for others lol.
Just like my Starfield version of this mod, some users will not see the appeal whereas, others are extremely grateful for it. It's entirely depends on the user :) Obviously I'm going to be bias here but I much prefer this method over anything else but then again I did create the mod so... 😂
Anyway, whether you choose to download and use it or not, I hope you have a great day :)
I think this mod is a great idea, however I cannot seem to get it to work. For reference, I am using Fallout 76 Quick Config as my mod manager. I triple checked your instructions and made sure to copy & paste the F.A.S.L (Fallout Advanced Steam Launcher).exe file to the root of my Fallout 76 steam directory alongside the official Fallout76.exe file.
F.A.S.L (Fallout76 Advanced Steam Launcher) By ACCESS_DENIIED Please enter the full path to your mod manager executable, including the filename. Example: E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Fallout76\ModManager.exe :
No such file exists in my C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout76 folder. The only file included in your zip is the exe file. After editing launch options and running the game no such file is created.
Yeah, this is absolutely one way to do it, but I actually programmed it so that it should have been easier.
Basically, the ini didn't exist because my program automatically creates the ini file in that location for you when you enter the mod manager path in the ACCESS_DENIIED console window. I actually print the progress of what the program is doing in the console itself so after you enter the mod manager path, it will say that it's creating the ini, etc.
I think this is on me though. Communication and language is something i really struggle with tbh so it's my bad. I should have provided clearer instructions. I did use chatgpt to "improve" my original instructions due to this as i thought it would be easier to understand than my brainglish lol.
In any case, I've just created a quick video tutorial as well. My wife's recommendation lol
It's still rendering but it should be uploaded within the hour.
Thanks for being patient, reporting issues and downloading the mod :)
This mod sounds like an easy MUST HAVE for anyone modding their Fallout 76 game, so I'm glad I could help you out. And I think your wife was right in uploading a video here for people to watch, after all not everyone is tech savvy lol. I hope that future updates to this mod fix all the bugs and streamline the process further :)
p.s. I just noticed that the CMD terminal was not an error... it was just waiting for me to ENTER my mod manager path location! XD
Just added the video tutorial to the page. I really hope it's better lol
Haha, yeah, I think i'm going to rewrite the console outputs to better reflect what the user needs to do and also iron out a few of the unexpected bugs.
I honestly didn't expect this tbh, my Starfield version worked like a charm lol
You don't actually need to do any of this. I've just nailed it for quick config so it'll be seamless and you won't have to wait. Works like a charm. Here's what to do:
Quick Config Mod Manager Users:
Make sure you set your quick config mod manager to launch Fallout76.exe directly instead of launching through Steam.
You can do this by opening your quick config mod manager, click the Steam button at the bottom left, check the "show more options" box, check the "Run Fallout76.exe directly" box and finally click the "Save profile and back to selection" button at the top of the page.
If you do this, you can click play and fallout will immediately launch :)
Very cool idea however after it launches the mod manager, and the CMD prompt closes I hit the launch button and it just restarts the prompt in a loop, the game will not launch as the mod manager is trying to launch the steam link, that launches your application, It just loops.
What mod manager are you using? Can you provide the ini file contents (F.A.S.L-Settings.ini), your steam launch command and the location that steam has installed your fallout game to?
Also, There's a video guide now which might be easier to follow as some users experienced some issues with the text guide. But please provide the information and i'll be happy to assist :)
If so, make sure you set your quick config mod manager to launch Fallout76.exe directly instead of launching through Steam.
You can do this by opening your quick config mod manager, click the Steam button at the bottom left, check the "show more options" box, check the "Run Fallout76.exe directly" box and finally click the "Save profile and back to selection" button at the top of the page.
Hey there, I followed all of the instructions but unfortunately it doesnt open a Fallout 76 Mod Organizer instance. It just opens whatever instance I was last on for my MO. Do you know a fix for that?
Are you using a "Global" Instance by any chance? ModOrganizer works best with this mod when you've set a "Portable" Instance for fallout 76.
If you have, luckily, it's super easy to convert your Global instance to a Portable one:
Just create a new Portable Instance, then just copy (or cut) and paste your "mods", "profiles", "downloads" and "modorganizer.ini" from your global instance into your new Portable instance directory and overwrite any files.
UPDATE: My system performance tanked so badly after closing the "ACCESS DENIED" window, which caused an endless loop of new process after new process to spawn... that I had to resort to a hard shutdown (holding my PC's power button for a 10-count).
I don't know what this program is 'supposed to do' (as the description for it as vague at best and it has no **real** listing of what features it offers) but it needs major work. I recommend pulling it from public access and testing it more.
I followed the instructions in the program's description page. You instruct users to copy the path of the FASL exe (located in the Fallout 76 Steam folder) and paste that into the "Launch Options" for the game under Steam Properties. I did that ... followed by "-- %command%" as per instructions. Direct copied the text.
Also just a note, it has no INI when initially installed. It's just an EXE file. The INI is 'generated' when the EXE is first run. Also ... and this strikes me as incredibly weird... it asks for the path of the game (which it should already know because it's IN THE SAME DIRECTORY. It should be able to just detect that.)
Could you send me your ini file contents and steam launch commands?
It sounds like you've incorrectly configured your settings.
I've never released anything malicious in my life and never intend to, you're welcome to check all of my other mods if needed but this is a port of my existing mod for Starfield which, users had hardly issues with over there. The code isn't that much different, i just had to account for the file names (Fallout76 instead of Starfield, etc).
Oh, I understand now. This program is in no way a mod manager, it just ... launches the mod manager so I can then "Play Fallout 76 with mods"? You do realize that once mods are installed, the mod manager isn't really **needed** until the next major patch, right?
I think you might need to clarify and expound upon some details about this thing's over all purpose in your description text. Deciphering its true purpose reveals that this is totally useless to me.
I in no way want to insinuate that this program is intentionally malicious. I do think it's a big confusing however, as my initial reading of it's title and description came across as an advertisement for this being a Mod Manager program itself. A possible alternative to the one I was using.
I'm now realize you just made something to launch the program I've already got a shortcut on my desktop for. I don't really *need that*.
I would highly encourage you to put more 'failsafe checks' into it tho, to prevent infinite loops like I so easily setup.
Ah. I see your issue now. My program does not ask where your game is, the only thing my program is doing is telling steam to look in the same directory as fallout76 for a file called "F.A.S.L (Fallout Advanced Steam Launcher).exe". Steam then assumes that Fallout76 is open but in reality, i've programmed the file to redirect to another executable. In this case, it's redirecting to your mod manager.
So Steam "Play" is simply being redirected to your mod manager where you can press play there instead.
And yup, you're completely right. Some people don't see the need for something like this. Others do though, including myself. I literally only make mods for myself anyway lol I just upload them afterwards so others might benefit from them.
It'll be easy enough to fix these issues. Thanks for bringing them to my attention :)
I'm just getting an endlessly scrolling "ACCESS DENIED" in a Command Window. Closing this window apparently does not end your command process either, as I have to go into Steam and hit "X - STOP" afterward.

Can you copy and paste the contents from your F.A.S.L-Settings.ini to here so I can check it? It will be in your Fallout76 folder

This mod is based on my S.A.S.L - (Starfield Advanced Steam Launcher) - SFSE - MO2 - IntervalSave - One-Click Integration as stated in my description.
Regarding what it does: the top description is
"One-Click Mod Manager Steam Integration.
Steam -> Play Fallout 76 -> Automatically Launch Mod Manager."
So it's a program i've created that allows users to launch directly into their mod managers of choice when pressing play on the game in steam.
This program is in no way a mod manager, it just ... launches the mod manager so I can then "Play Fallout 76 with mods"?
