About this mod

Tired of all the dirt and destruction? Ever wondered how Appalachia would look pre-war? With this mod you can see it with your own eyes!

Changelogs
This mod aims at reverting everything to its pre-war state - architecture, clutter, furniture, roads, removing tons of trash from the streets and houses, adding whole lot of lights everywhere, repairing broken buildings, you name it.

Please note that this is a work in progress and this version is far from final, there's still a lot that needs to be done. And there's a whole lot of stuff that is broken beyond repair without the access to Creation Kit. We decided to share the mod with you regardless as after 4 months of work it offers decent level of changes that already will completely alter your perception of the game.

This mod is a fantasy and may seem unimmersive under the circumstances of the game's lore, as it can't change the game's story and all the lore pieces that are there. To make things more immersive we pretend that massive earthquakes happened all across Appalachia, thus all the destruction, but many things still look undamaged/pristine.

It's highly recommended to use Spring in Appalachia mod alongside this one (all screenshots made with both mods on) as it greatly adds to the clean atmosphere of Appalachia Restored, creating even more cheerful and nice environment :D

Installation
1. Extract the ba2 file(s) from the archive you've downloaded to your Fallout76/Data folder.
2. Check whether you've got the Fallout76Custom.ini (or Project76Custom.ini if you're using Game Pass version of the game) file under Documents/My Games/Fallout 76 folder, and if not, create it.
2a. If you've just created the .ini file mentioned above, you need to open it and input this string in it: [Archive]
3. Find sResourceArchive2List = line under the [Archive] section of your Fallout76Custom.ini or type it down if there is no such line.
4. Add "AR_M.ba2, AR_T.ba2, AR_Lights.ba2" (without quotes) to the end of the sResourceArchive2List  line.

Please note that this mod adds a lot of new lightsources to the world and it might affect performance on lower-end machines. If you'll experience performance issues, try to remove the AR_Lights.ba2 you've previously added to the sResourceArchive2List  line. This will make the world less lit up and cozy, but might help regain some fps.

Important Note: Only you will see the world changes in your game, other players won't, so it's just for your own aesthetic pleasure.

Frequently Asked Questions

-What exactly is covered by the mod?
Most of the game's man-made interiors - floors, walls, ceilings, building facades, almost every small piece of clutter, vanilla game furniture, vehicles, industrial machinery. For now armor/PA/outfits/weapons are not covered, though you can still have cleaner versions of some of them using other mods listed below. We will probably work on at least some part of vanilla armor and outfits down the road.

-I still see broken stuff in my game like roads and walls, some rust and dirt here and there, is that a bug?
Most probably - no, not a bug. As we already mentioned, this mod is a work in progress and we will continue to repair what's repairable, add more clean/pristine stuff to the mod and remove remaining trashpiles etc as the time goes. Some things can't be repaired without Creation Kit though, and some shouldn't for logistical purposes - you need passable destroyed walls here and there to explore otherwise inaccessible areas.

-Does this mod affect C.A.M.P. items?
It does partly. Atomic shop stuff is mostly untouched though, as we were only aiming to clean up all the world's vanilla assets, and the pool of unique ATX items is so vast it would require few more months of work to revert them all to pristine condition.  Many vanilla camp items will appear cleaner/pristine though such as furniture and vanilla building kits.
Please don't ask us to clean up item X or Y because you use it so much at your camp, our main focus is still on vanilla world assets. We might add some of the ATX items down the road.

-I keep falling through some roofs here and there, is it a bug?
It is part of the "the price you pay" for having neat repaired building facades. We replaced a lot of roofs with their undamaged versions, but the collision could not be added without full modding support in most cases.

-Does this mod cover Expeditions?
Yes and no. As the title states, it's Appalachia Restored, so we were mainly aiming at stuff that belongs to Appalachia's world map. Nevertheless Expeditions reuse a ton of game's assets like architecture, vehicles, setdressing, industrial machinery, clutter etc, so mostly the areas of Pitt and Atlantic city will look way cleaner than before as well. The unique assets from these areas might not be covered yet, but we might try to clean them up too eventually.

-There's so many doors everywhere luring me to open them to see what's inside, but I can't!
You are not supposed to. (Though you're gonna be constantly tempted to :D) We removed plywood from hundreds of houses, stores and other buildings and added all sorts of clean doors to make them look less abandoned/more lively. This came with a price: Previously it was more obvious where to go as most buildings were abandoned and only the ones you could get into had actual doors. With this mod it might get a bit confusing if you're unfamiliar with the world, so it's best to get yourself familiar with the world before trying the mod.

-Does this mod tamper with the game's questlines?
No. You can still complete any quest without any issues as the mod does not remove crucial quest assets.
And yes. The main thing to consider here is that it drastically changes the atmosphere, which might make some quest lore look out of place. We recommend only to use the mod after you'll finish with all main questlines and world exploration, as you just won't experience the quests and locations the way Bethesda intended when everything around is clean and pristine. The original environmental storytelling just won't be the same in a world devoid of trash and postapocalyptic destruction.

-Will this mod work after the new game's update/patch?
-But of course. As a simple texture/model replacer it does not require any updates when the game gets new patches.

-Is this mod compatible with Winter in Appalachia?
-Not entirely. Full support for Winter in Appalachia would require a ton of snowcovers manually placed onto cleaner assets from this mod which we unfortunately just don't have time to do now. If you will install WiA after this mod (with all WiA files coming after this mod's files in your ini file), it will revert many clean/pristine assets (mainly architecture and vehicles) to their damaged state. Still, you'll have way cleaner interiors, clutter and other things that are not coreved in snow alongside with completely winterized Appalachia.

-Will this mod affect my game's performance?
-It should not, but it still might on lower-end machines. We've added whole lot of lightsources to the world and some textures (a rather small percentage though) were upscaled for better clarity, so this might affect your framerate. On the other hand we removed a ton of trash/dirt assets, so it will compensate for some potential performance loss due to things mentioned above.

-Why are the roads lacking smooth transitions between their segments?
-As we tried to renew the textures and structure of the roads, it became apparent that it's impossible to achieve smooth transitions between different road segments without access to the Creation Kit. Many roads were never meant to actually connect with each other as the transition points were intentionally ruined by the devs in the first place, thus there was no reason for Bethesda to think about carefully positioning the road sections. Repairing the road models made them connect at weird angles at times (we have no way to change road sections' position in every single case as it would require Creation Kit), but this is a price to pay for most roads in the game being nice and undamaged.

-Why does the hardscape in the distance appear broken and pop in as undamaged when I'm closing in? Can something be done about that?
Not much we can do for now as we just haven't found reliable means of regenerating LOD. Doing this by hand will take forever and would probably cause more issues than it would actually fix. So no, it ain't gonna change until we gonna have full modding support and specific tools release for FO76.
