    Just to clarify: the purpose of this mod is to *silence* annoying sounds, not reduce the volume.

    I originally created it because nobody was doing anything about the wind turbines, I had three of these in my C.A.M.P. at the time (I didn't have the fusion generator plans at the time) and I dreaded spending time at my camp because of that god-awful scraping noise. I mean, what were they thinking? If *my* windmill was making that noise I would grease the heck out of it, no wonder it only produced 3 power, the rest of the energy was going into friction!.

    When it comes to the sound of the wind turbines, I don't want it at 50%, I don't want it at 10%. I don't need to hear the sound of the gas generators either. The Fusion generator is not bad (to me) but since I could silence it in C.A.M.P. without affecting the generators in the wild, why not?

    I have a set of tiny, completely silent (all zeroed) audio files that I created for the purpose of using in mods like this, and I have a script to iterate through a folder replacing the audio files with the appropriately encoded version of the silence file. This has the side effect of keeping the mod tiny - all of the other quiet patches are significantly larger than mine even though I silence far more sounds. While I do have access to audio editing tools, I don't plan on releasing percentage versions because this mod is all about silence.

    I will happily hunt down a particular annoying sound and eliminate it for you, but I won't fiddle with the audio levels.

    Thanks,
    Rath

    Can you please silence the motorized butter churner? I've searched all the mods and I can't believe there I couldn't find one.

    Would you be able to silence eating and drinking noises from the game? My partner has Misophonia and those sounds really ruin the game for her, ive tried myself but unfortunately no luck yet

    Love the idea of this.

    Also, is there any way to silence those darn crickets you get constantly 'chirping' (or whatever crickets do) whenever you camp near the river down the West side of the Forest region.

      LOL, I know exactly what you mean. I used to keep my C.A.M.P. over on the river myself, but have moved to a nice spot the mountains southeast of Whitesprings for better access to common nuke zones. I live in rural Ohio, so the sound of crickets at night (and cicadas during the day) are pretty normal sounds of summer. In fact, the real-life noise can actually be *much* louder than is depicted in-game.

      I can poke around in the audio files to see what there is, but I suspect the ambient forest sounds are probably all merged audio. If that is the case, swapping it would basically eliminate all forest ambient noise. If I come up with something, I will set it up as a new mod.

      EDIT: This turned out to be super easy - all of the ambient audio is layered, so insect and animal noises are actually separate files. I created two extra files, one for crickets and one for cicadas.

      Thanks!

      Wow, that was quick, thanks.

      Can I ask before I download, which ones are the noise makers near the water area. I'm not sure I know the difference between a cricket noise and a cicada. Sorry for my ignorance.

      Oh, and I don't mind the noise, it just gets a bit much when spending a long time at camp either building the camp or sorting weapons/armour/etc.

      Thanks again Rath...

      During the day, particularly at dusk, the loudest insect would be the cicadas. At night, the crickets take over and can get rather loud in some areas.

      There may also be some frogs mixed in there, but they aren't as annoying as the cicadas can be. In Ohio, cicadas can be so loud as to prevent you from having a quiet conversation in your own backyard.

      Yes, I second this :
      Rathinosk, please Sir, may I have a bowl of lowerage by:
      60% cicadas

      40% crickets
      40% machinery
      ...As more optionals.
      And a Happy New Year to you kind Sir Tiger Clan Elf.

      Sorry BorderXer, I don't do remixes - this mod is about silence, glorious silence. If you find a noise irritating, does it really matter if it's at 100% volume or 10% volume? You can get that effect by placing the item farther away (like I did with the wind turbines initially).

      BTW, You are the first person in over a decade to identify that my profile picture is a Tiger Clan Elf!

      I love all other aspects of your mod, and they all work, but no matter what I do I can't seem to get No Crickets and No Cicadas to work. Changed the filenames to 1NoCrickets and 1NoCicadas, played with the load order, etc. Any other hints/tips?

      Sorry, I was out of the game for a few months there... I will take a look at those two particular mods - it's possible they changed up some of the audio resources and broke my mod.

      I will take a look as soon as I can.

      My camp is located on that western river and the bug sounds were absolutely driving me bonkers. They are louder than anywhere else on the map and are extremely rhythmic and annoying. Well, my mod 100% silences those annoying sounds!

      Yep my camp is right on the western river and it seems like the mod gets some of them but there's still more. cicada noises in there. They may be limited to different times of the day. Night especially is very loud.

      Night time is the worst by the river with a camp. I thought this mod would help, but the sounds have tripled.

      I'm also camped on the western river on the junk node north of the hotdog place. The noise is hellish at times. These cricket chirps at around 4x per second... it just drives me insane. I have to mute my sound while at my camp.

      I have found the offending files within the sounds01 archive. These are the sounds that absolutely destroy having a riverside camp...

      Inside the archive "SeventySix - Sounds01.ba2"

      and this directory...
      \sound\fx\amb\exteriors\riversstreams

      The original ba2 file contains .wav files instead of xwm files. But these are the files right here...

      amb_river_bullfrog_day_01.wav
      amb_river_bullfrog_day_02.wav
      amb_river_bullfrog_day_03.wav
      amb_river_bullfrog_day_04.wav
      amb_river_bullfrog_day_05.wav
      amb_river_bullfrog_day_06.wav
      amb_river_bullfrog_day_07.wav
      amb_river_bullfrog_day_08.wav
      amb_river_bullfrog_day_09.wav
      amb_river_wildlife_day_02_lp.wav
      amb_river_wildlife_day_03_lp.wav
      amb_river_wildlife_day_04_lp.wav
      amb_river_wildlife_day_05_lp.wav
      amb_river_wildlife_day_06_lp.wav
      amb_river_wildlife_night_01_lp.wav
      amb_river_wildlife_night_02_lp.wav
      amb_river_wildlife_night_03_lp.wav
      amb_river_wildlife_night_04_lp.wav
      amb_river_wildlife_night_05_lp.wav
      amb_river_wildlife_night_06_lp.wav

      These are absolutely the most annoying and troublesome files. The absolute worst are amb_river_wildlife_day_05.wav and amb_river_wildlife_day_06.wav with their rhythmic chirping sound that never ends. It is truly bizarre why they thought this would be a good thing to put in the game. It's horrible to listen to for more than a few seconds.

      Anyway, the thing is, I tried replacing all of these with silent wav files. I even used a .wav from an uncompressed copy of the SilentCamp.ba2. Using this silent wav file, I replaced all of these sound files within their original subdirectory within the data dir but it's still not working. The uncompressed SilentCamp files are still doing their thing. silent generators and turrets, etc, but these additional files in this riversstreams subdirectory are still not shutting the hell up, even after replacing with silent files with the same names, in their original directory location.

      So, even though I've found the irritating noise files, I still can't get them to be quite with empty wav file replacements. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

      [EDIT] EUREKA! Problem Solved!!! At last, my ears can be at peace! The solution was to make the repalcement wav files be exactly the same length, and in the case of these riversstreams NOISE files, they are 10 seconds each. Also, the bullfrogs and birds I can live with. It was simply the incessant chirping and buzzing of these insects. OMG. It's bad enough I have to listen to them in real life outside my window in the summer. In fact, the cicadas just recently started up, and several times tonight during this effort to squelch these noises, I accidentally mistook the real life sounds outside for the in-game sounds!

      Whoever thought it was a swell idea to add these incessant non-stop never ending torture files of noises from hell should be made to listen to them non-stop 24/7 and see how much they like it. I have grown to so despise these bug sounds that the thought to quit playing the game entirely has crossed my mind more than once.

      Anyway, problem solved. I do see that there is other demand for this solution, so I may upload it as a separate mod if I don't see any replies soon.

    Hi Rathinosk,
    It's me from the "Tiger Clan Elf" / "Oliver Twist Story related" post back the month
    you brought this mod to us.
    So, what I did was rename each of these to :
    -
    s_0 = silent_Cicadas (everywhere).rtf ... <--- ( I add these docs to show extra info in the Data folder )
    s_0.ba2
    s_1 = silent_Crickets (everywhere).rtf
    s_1.ba2
    s_2 = silent_Generators.rtf
    s_2.ba2
    s_3 = silent_Harvesters.rtf
    s_3.ba2
    s_4 = silent_Turret MOTORS.rtf
    s_4.ba2
    s_5 = silent_Water Pumps.rtf
    s_5.ba2
    -
    The idea with the usually empty doc files has helped me ever since Fallout 3 came out.
    I didn't use the all-in-one because for it you did not re-enforce that it also silences those

    cicada & cricket noises "everywhere", as you state in the individual mods. Does it ?

    EDIT: What the heck, since I see more UD's, I'll use your AIO.
    (I wonder if the recordings sometimes have Corus Frogs, or other "singing frogs", too)

      I see what you did there, very clever! (It would still be nice if Bethesda would just accept there is a modding community, though)

      The All-In-One includes all the machines and all the insects, everywhere.I just posted a new version of Generators, Machines, and the AIO ( version 1.1a), because my initial release of 1.1 was missing some generators. Sorry about that!

      I am actually looking for all the frog noises right now to add the additional option. :)
