In current versions of Fallout 76, using landscape textures of a resolution of 4K or greater doesn't render and produces empty, black textures. Until this issue is resolved in a future update for Fallout 76, you can work around this by not using High Resolution Texture Pack 06, which is the archive that contains the landscape textures.
This used to be problem in the game, and in fact it held me back from releasing this mod, but it was eventually resolved. I'm hoping this will be solved automatically, but in case it isn't, feel free to reach out if you want to help out with producing a version of Pack 06 where the textures in the landscape folder specifically has a maximum resolution of 2K, so long as you make sure to use proper texture formats, etc.
1) I found this low-resolution texture in the game. Shouldn't it be high resolution? Can it be so in the next version?
As is hopefully clear in the mod description, this mod does not aim to overhaul all of Fallout 76's textures, but instead replace those textures for which there are one or more variants of a higher resolution found in the set of pre-Wastelanders textures and/or Fallout 4 HD DLC textures. There are still many, many textures left untouched by this mod, for which there aren't any existing textures of higher resolution.
2) This texture looks incorrect or missing. Will it be fixed in the next version?
Thanks for the heads-up! Please post it as a bug report via the Bugs tab.
3) Will you release a version of the mod with smaller textures and smaller VRAM requirements?
This mod is using the resolution of the best matching pre-Wastelanders and Fallout 4 HD DLC textures as "ground truth" and target resolution. So at this time, this is unfortunately not a possibility, no.
I mean, if I have all the .ba2 files at my custom pref ini, and both mods change same texture, which one will be used by the game? Can this create any conflict?
I ask this because i started playing, loved the mod, but a quest sent me inside a Mine, and there the walls and rocks did not have any HD texture, which I thought would be. So maybe using other texture mod would do the trick? Anyone can help, thanks!
This would be a huge improvement to get all textures with better quality. But i'm getting a question concerning size of archives. As said in official doc "the size limits of an archive should be 4095 MB maximum for the engine to properly load the archive."
Here the .ba2 files are much bigger, up to more than double the recommended max size. (files 1, 2, 5, 10 are bigger) You should bake these files a little smaller to make it easier to load.
Wonderfull work. A must have mod. There are a fiew faulty textures resulting in dark or black areas. The most discussed here seems to be the black areas around roads. The reason is
riverbedrocks_l.dds debrisgroundtile_l.dds fallenleaves01_l.dds dirtgravel01_l.dds found in folder textures\landscape\ground of the file high_resolution_texture_pack_06.ba2
You can remove that using the Archive2.exe from Fallout 4.
Also I would trongly recommend removing
machinekitquad04_l.dds in folder textures\setdressing\machinekit of the file high_resolution_texture_pack_02.ba2
There is a handfull of other files that I don't remember right now with the same problem regarding HAM radio and the plasma rifle. Usually it is the *_l.dds files that is problematic. Removing those files only will still make the graphics look great.
Perfect, Thanks for this, it must have taken a lot of time to figure it out, a simple 2 min edit fixes the black textures on ground with high_resolution_texture_pack_06.ba2 using Archive2.exe.
Do you happen to have a copy of the texture pack 02 and 06 with the changes you made that you could share? I don't have Archive2.exe and would love to see the changes if possible.
For those of you who are confused "What the hell is Archive2.exe? Why can't they just send me the <blank>". HEED MY WORDS:
1. Go to Steam: Download Fallout 4 Creation Kit (From the Steam store), run it for the first time. 2. Navigate to <YourDrive>SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Tools\Archive2 open Archive2.exe 3. Click on File->Open and open high_resolution_texture_pack_06.ba2 (located in <YourDrive>SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Fallout76\Data) 4. Delete these: riverbedrocks_l.dds debrisgroundtile_l.dds fallenleaves01_l.dds dirtgravel01_l.dds
Thank you for this! I couldn't open the Fallout 4 Creation Kit, it crashed before launching, but it didn't matter, the Archive2.exe was still there, and your steps still fixed the black textures for me, thanks!
All the glass parts of the Chemistry Workbench A are mostly missing with this mod. They are in Pack 02.
The Alpha channel is wrong on the file workstationchemistrya02_d.dds There actually should not be an alpha channel on this .dds file but the mod version has one and it makes the glass look pretty much invisible except for little splotches.
You can "blank" the Alpha channel on the file to fix it. Or even better is just reduce the alpha, so more of the original texture shows through, and you still get a little clear look to the glass. This is what I did.
Problem is out of 1000s of other files how many more are messed up in the mod?!?
It seems like this mod works partly for me, some textures look great while others stay unchanged, i know some that should be changing aren't because i'm comparing with the captures in this page, could this because my card only has 8gb of vram or something to do with my load order, i also have radrose set to load after this one
Okay so installing the files in Fallout76Custom.ini does absolutely nothing. sResourceIndexFileList is in the game's normal .ini folder not the custom and I even replaced what was there and the game is not even using my gpu so I know for sure that it's not using the high rez textures. I hate to be rude but at this point the installation documentation is about as good for wiping your ass. Are we supposed to replace what's under [Archive] or add to it? I've removed all the textures that cause issues from the .b2as. I used vortex to install the mods so all I need to do know is figure how how to get the game to load the textures. Because vortex is not adding them to the right place we won't know where to add it and exactly what to do unless you tell us what needs to be replaced/altered or left alone.
I have the b2a's now what am I supposed to do with them. I made sure to use archive 2 from the creation kit to remove the textures that were causing issues. Other than that I am unclear if there is anything else that I need that has anything to do with fallout 4. I know that the game needs to be able to read the b2as now that they are installed but how exactly to do that is honestly totally just unclear.
Hi, first off, if you don't want to be rude, then don't be rude. Secondly, this will use your GPU's VRAM, not necessarily your GPU raw computing power or 'GPU utilization.' I have found that most mod managers don't work well, if at all. I suspect this is because there are several different ways FO76 can be installed on your computer. I recommend reading through this Reddit post on the r/FO76 subreddit:
Hello and to start thank you for this fantastic work!
I would like to be sure, for the information to be added to the custome.ini file, should you add spaces after the equal sign and the comma please? or does it change nothing? Thanks.
Hi there. Don't add any additional whitespace such as spaces or newlines. Format it like this: sResourceIndexFileList=high_resolution_texture_pack_01.ba2,high_resolution_texture_pack_02.ba2,high_resolution_texture_pack_03.ba2,high_resolution_texture_pack_04.ba2,high_resolution_texture_pack_05.ba2,high_resolution_texture_pack_06.ba2,high_resolution_texture_pack_07.ba2,high_resolution_texture_pack_08.ba2,high_resolution_texture_pack_09.ba2,high_resolution_texture_pack_010.ba2
right, was just in an expedition run and it takes 30 seconds or more to load in, by the time i do my teammates have cleared everything lol. not sure if im going to keep it or reduce it at least because its getting silly, i have no problem running it and am getting stable 90+ fps but the deployment time for all 10 is getting annoying but its a small price to pay

And niki244 made the archive 06 patched for download here : Fixed High Resolution Texture Pack 06 (no more black ground) it seems to help a lot !

That's it. Enjoy!
Played for over 30 hours and saw no black textures.
Thanks!
plasmacell_l.dds
plasmareceiver_l.dds
They are in: High Resolution Texture Pack 10

It gives a more detailed guide for how to manually mod FO76.
