Very cool mod. It shows on the leveled lists around the time magazine-fed shotguns are becoming plentiful, which is great for balancing. It's also not common; meaning you can kill hundreds of enemies and not find a single one. That, alongside the fact that it does not seem to appear in vendor leveled lists, makes it hard to obtain, which is fitting for a firearm manufactured by the millions. The author (or uploader) also seems very receptive to criticism and feedback, which is always great to see. 7/10
Any plans on adding an optional file that changes the name of the weapon into something more vanilla friendly? Like ‘Pump-Action Shotgun’ or ‘Marine Shotgun’
Nah. I find the vanilla nomenclature too limiting. Like, let’s take a the name “Soviet Pistol” for example. What could this be? a Makarov TT-33 CZ-52 TT-30? I instead when for a compromise go for a flavor of the nomenclature where it hints at the IRL pistol if I can’t find a suitable name for it. so the TT-33 is now a 1933 Commissar Pistol, the CZ is now a Roller Lock Pistol ect.
same here with this pump shotty, I made an Ithaca as well. So rather can calling it a Pump Shotgun, I call it the M37 Shotgun. And if you use my Mossberg as well, it’s a M590 as well. For all we know, M could mean model. But for players who know about guns, they’ll see the numbers and letter and get a general idea of what the gun is.
long winded response but I figured I’d explain my reasoning.
Just to reinforce the shittiness of vanilla naming, "Marine Shotgun" could just as easily describe any of the various salt-water-safe shotguns made by many manufacturers that were never used by any nations Marines.
To Bethesda's and Obsidian's credit. It works fine for vanilla because they have a set amount of weapons in mind. It starts becoming a problem when you add more weapons. JSaywer stuck with the generic nomenclature method because he took artistic liberties with someone of the weapons and knew that gun nuts would s#*! their pants so he said "I'd rather just call it something like .45 Auto Pistol and call it a day"
I'm assuming the author is not using the NG version of the game? Listed requirements include BCR, which is no longer working with NG update. Or has someone found a "fix" that makes BCR work with NG?
BCR is a soft requirement. You can use it on NG, it just won’t have bullet counter reload. I personally run the old version but with all the NG content and ESMs.
Unfortunately, that's one of the reasons I've been avoiding using any tube-fed shotguns with NG. I have multiple weapon mods that already add some great pump-action shotguns, and yours looks like a great addition, but without BCR working it's a huge immersion-breaking annoyance. I read about using the melee bash button to "cancel" the full reload animation, but that sounds like a retarded glitch/exploit and not a solution to the problem. So until BCR (or an alternate) is made to work with NG, I'll have to hold off on using any tube-feds.
I did read somewhere that since BCR isn't being updated any time soon, another version for NG (by a different author) was supposed to be getting released around New Year's. Will wait and see if that happens, and if so I'd love to give your mod a try.
Consider the Winchester M-2 Shotguns by Scail as an alternative for now. There’s a mag fed pump shotgun and a “quad loading” shotgun which has you loading the entire tube in one fistful of shells. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/56141
I'm more of a "modern arms" user. I have Weaponsmith Extended, and it includes a few of the older mag-fed shotguns like the IF-88 and some other odd ones, but they aren't really my style. Currently, I'm using both the JAK-12 and the Riveter shotguns for mag-fed options. They both have their "quirks" and need a lot of adjustment using ECO's options, but they're the best I've found available. I loved using the SPAS-12 from the Combined Arms mod, but after upgrading to NG and losing the BCR functionality I just can't stand using a tube-fed.
The 590 was the first shotgun I kept at home, and sometimes used it in competitions. Easy to operate, easy to maintain, and you could find plenty of aftermarket accessories available online. That's what interests me in your mod, it looks like it has a good variety of customization options. So once I can get BCR working properly again, or an alternate option is found, I definitely intend to give your mod a try. I wouldn't mind trying it out for now, but I just can't bring myself to carrying it as a regular weapon due to the retarded vanilla reload mechanic. Not your fault, that's on BGS.
Honestly, I'd probably recommend the Mossberg 500 instead in this case as it's a similar platform and probably much more suited to your tastes. You could always just downgrade. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/46120
Thanks for the recommendations. I'm not up for downgrading though, too many of the mods I use are specifically updated for NG. Some "might" work with the downgrade, but I'm not wanting to risk it. At some point, the downgrade option won't be compatible with certain mods, so it's best not to get used to it.
Thanks! Honestly was happy with how they came out. I wanna put them on End game viable weapons from here on out. Hopefully without the file size getting too large.
I cannot seem to find the weapon. I haven't seen it in shops, I haven't seen any enemies wielding it, and it can't be crafted at a chem bench. How do I get the gun?
I'm an even higher level than that. I've been exploring far harbor for 3+ hours, killing every trapper I can find, and I still haven't got one to spawn yet.
Killed plenty of them too. Hunted them for 2+ hours and it didn't spawn on them either. Thats why I decided to try the trappers. I'll probably return to the commonwealth to hunt gunners again. If I can't get the gun to spawn, I might just un-install the mod, It's getting ridiculous trying to find one.
ok i only asked because it does get out performed by some of the other shotguns on the nexus and figured it would be a nice addition to increase or decrease the damage of it.
