Giving this a go since I'm remaking my mod list. I avoided these notes like the plague. Now I might actually be happy to see one early on, depending on where it sends me.
I'm looking for a mod that removes all these notes from dead npcs and puts them on a message board somewhere like diamond city or goodneighbor so these dead npcs can finally be removed from the random encounter system and other things in that system can happen instead.
I have always avoided picking up those notes because of the lame weapons it gives you but now with this mod I'm excited again to treasure hunt some weapons that I stole from some guys corpse. LOL
This seems like an interesting improvement, do you happen to know if your mod is compatible with Commonwealth Encounter Pack or if there are any conflicts with that mod since it deals with random encounters?
Edit: I checked with FO4Edit and I don't see any conflicts with that mod. However I did find a couple with Keeper of the Commonwealth Radiants, nothing I can't fix myself in FO4Edit but I figured I should let you know in case you want to upload a patch or something.
Yes it should work fine with the commonwealth encounter pack, as that doesn't touch the quests that my mod makes edits too. But one thing I will mention is that these vanilla random encounters will become a lot less common as there is so many other random encounters to choose from, but that is probably not a problem.
I did actually have a look at the treasure hunt random encounters in that mod because I thought I would maybe make a separate patch for that, but the rewards seemed fine.
I will look into the keeper of the commonwealth radiants, I actually spoke with Exoclyps about this and thought it would be compatible but I guess I will have to take a look, thanks for letting me know.
Yeah I figured they would be less... actually MUCH less likely to encounter when using Commonwealth Encounter Pack, but I still like the idea of having slightly better loot from those and particularly not being tasked to go find pipe weapons after certain levels, and since it's an ESL it's not like those are taking much space in my load order these days.

Yeah it's just a few lines that need to be forwarded, nothing really serious, I did it in like a minute honestly. There was one change I had to forward from UF4OP in that same conflict, which then required to allow UF4OP as a master, but in my case I allowed it since I'm using it anyway so might as well.
Started a new game yesterday. Found a note on a dead NPC east of USAF Satellite Station Olivia... it send me to Wilson Atomatoys Factory to recover a Pipe weapon. That's right; the game just told my level 4 Survival Mode character, fresh out of Vault 111, to travel literally from one corner of the map to the other, to an area crawling with high-level Super Mutants, including one boss armed with a minigun... for a friggin' Pipe weapon! I swear to you I'm not making this up.
Yeah the vanilla system makes very little sense. This was a mod I wanted to make for a while after being sent to find a pipe gun as a level 30 character.
I remember the first time I got one of these in Vanilla, I found a note in a overpass, man I got so hyped, I felt like I just found a huge secret mission, it sent me to the federal rations, at the end it was a gun so boring I dont even remember what it was now.
i see everyone else in the comments is praising you, but the examples that you have shown, don't look that much better than the vanilla stuff given in the legendary system.
idk, maybe i'm just an idiot and not really understanding what this mod really offers to the player.
Maybe you have misunderstood, because this is not intended to replace or even compete with the vanilla legendary system. This mod simply makes the rewards better for the random encounter miscellaneous quests you can get from reading notes on corpses.
hmn, this suddenly made me think of something related but not directly, i wonder if it's possible to read a note via a button prompt instead of having to loot the item from the NPC's inventory, kind of like how the calling card deal worked in the vanilla silver shroud quest... do you know of any mod that might offer this?
because i hate picking up items only to open the pip boy and slowly skim through my endless list of inventory trash to find the note in order to read it, i remember back in the day, skyrim offered this, but in this game the functionality when dealing with inventory is a bit diffrent, but i think it's still possible.
apologies, i know that was a bit off topic, it's i was thinking of some way to still use this mod and enjoy something while offering a solution to another problem, i can't help it to express such ideas.
>Lvl 173 sole survivor. >Found corpse with one of these notes in the inventory. >"Look for the pipe gun in the chess club" >I swear I can hear Todd laughing from here.

Thanks for the mod, endorsed.

Todd Howard, you're out of your goddamn mind.
