2nd. Small request if I may: would it be possible to add a customizable percentage for swapping? For example, if I didn't want ALL power armor frames to be swapped but instead that there's a 50% chance a power armor frame will be swapped, do you think you could add that sort of check to the mod maybe? That way emtpy (available) frames don't just dissappear entirely from the world.
It replaces it with a pen. I was going to replace it with something else but by fluke the pen's collision boundaries actually make it fall through the ground about 90% of the time.
I want to add some further options for the mod but probably won't be able to get to it till probably mid June. If you go on the Base Object Swapper description page I believe there is commands that can alter the spawn chance rate. The commands need to be slightly altered on my PAFrame_SWAP.ini.
An example that might work but I can't test or verify currently:
I checked Base Object Swapper description and what you wrote there seems to be the correct syntax so I might give it a try and see how it goes.
I do have a question do, in your mod description it says:
What happens if one actually uninstalls the mod? Like, what happens to the swapped power armor frames? Do they remain as pens? do they revert back to power armor frames? or is the swapped object baked into the save?
For any unvisited cell (cell that has not been loaded), the PA frames will always revert back to vanilla if the mod is removed. If the pens are grabbed, kicked or manipulated by the player or npcs when the mod is active then they can NO longer be reverted back to PA frames. As stated earlier, for several swapped PA frame locations the pens are unobtainable thus most locations can be reverted if the mod is uninstalled. There is a better way to implement this & I hope to do so in the future.
I've enjoyed using this mod so far, but coming across some military or government installations and not seeing frames has got me wondering where I can still expect to see them as I play. I only worry now as I'm around level 20 and as much as I love correcting one of many flaws with this game using this mod, not siding with the BoS means I still only have T-45 and the unique legendary T-51 chestplate at this level.
Not asking for you to name-drop everywhere I can still find a frame with some leveled pieces on it - it's just bugged me how vague the description is since I installed the mod, and so I wondered in what kind of places I could find frames, for the sake of getting some more useful armor.
I'm guessing I just haven't looked hard enough at places like the Federation Stockpile and I've missed frames, and they're all in said bunkers?
My mod makes power armor finite & rare. Scarcity especially for early to mid game is exactly what it's meant to do. If you want to upgrade & have better armor you are going to have to pay, steal or kill for better parts. Rowdy the atom cats vendor sells several leveled PA parts granted they are randomly generated so you will have to mix & match until you find a match set.
I did not remove the PA frames from Nuka World or Far Harbor so you can find leveled items there as well (a full X-01 armor is located in Nuka World Galaxy Zone). Before you destroy the Prydwen you can steal the parts from the frames located in the repair bay next to the BOS vendor Teagan. Teagan sells T-60 parts I believe as well.
Appreciate the quick reply, thanks for the pointers. I remembered that KLEO in Goodneighbour sells frames for my companions or settlers too. All in all this is an exceptional mod for what little it sets out to achieve, good stuff man.
it would be nice if a fomod or alternate installs let us choose the amount of frames removed? this seems to be 100%, whereas i would prefer something like 75%. this is the only power armor mod that uses base object swapper and is there for extremely compatible, so i feel the need to ask.
As great as this mod is, i'm a little confused by something. What's the difference between this mod and "YerABCs" "No More Random Power Armor"? Both mods seem good but as far as i can tell they do the same thing, the only difference being this one removes fewer sets while having more requirements.
Mine uses the Base Object Swapper mod which swaps objects using scripts based off of F4SE & Baka Framework. It does not need an esp & won't overwrite vanilla world records. It can be installed / uninstalled any time & won't bake data onto your save. No More Random Power Armor uses an esp and makes hard edits to the worldspace so there will probably be more compatibility / conflicts with other mods that alter the same cells / worldspaces.
If you use YerABCs' mod & are happy with that I would suggest just sticking with it.
Fair enough, it's good to know the difference. Given the issues that come with large load orders anything that improves compat is a win, i'm going to give this one a go and see how it pans out.
Has anyone ever come up with an idea on how to solve the "The game shoves PA down your throat during the first quest outside the vault" issue?
I considered if putting a frame with Raider Power Armour on the crashed vertibiird would b good. It could be the best in terms of balance and it would also make the Raider version a bit less pointless, because usually when you find Raider PA you already have one (or probably more) full set(s) of superior Power Armour. That however would not make sense in terms of storytelling. But then again, why is this even still there in the first place, after 200 years?
I just can't think of a well balanced solution that makes sense in-universe. Oh, and fighting the Deathclaw without PA is probably not fun either. Maybe have the PA self destruct or simply break irreparably after the quest or something?
With all that being said, your mod already goes super far in the right direction! And the implementation with Base Object Swapper is just clean as f*#@! Thank you so much for this. :)
It turns out that the majority of the PA frames located in the exterior worldspace use the same 4 Base ID forms, so setting this up wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Thanks, enjoy the mod.

1st. What does it replace PA with?

0x0018ae55~Fallout4.esm|0x000140d99~Fallout4.esm|NONE|ChanceS(50)
This means that PA frame will be swapped out 50% of the time.

Thank you so much payl0ad! This seems like the best way to do it. :)
