About this mod

Takes the Power Armor frame acquired during "When Freedom Calls" from the player after the battle for Concord. Lore friendly and immersive.

Permissions and credits
No Free Power Armor in Concord

1. Intent
Bethesda decided they want to show off their new toys during what I consider the "prologue" of Fallout 4 by giving the player a full set of Power Armor and a Minigun while pitting the player against some Raiders and a Deathclaw. Which is not generally problematic by itself. They did miss one problem with the design of "When Freedom Calls" though - the players gets to keep the new toys that are tied into a main quest, even though they are only used exactly once and they are way ahead of the power curve at these low levels. In consequence, Power Armor frames are easily available for the player, even if a mod like Some Assembly Required is used. This mod wants to fix this perceived design mistake, making the player work at least a little to get set up with their own Power Armor.

2. What does it do specifically?

This mod makes the Power Armor suit you find on the rooftop of the Museum of Freedom single-use. "When Freedom Calls" will behave like it normally would but when the player has finished the battle for Concord (Quest stages 60-80 specifically), they will be forced out of the power suit and the suit will self-destruct due to some technical defect. Thus, the player will have to go and find another PA frame somewhere else. If the player leaves the suit before and re-enters it after completion of these quest stages, self-destruct will commence upon entering the suit, forcing the player out of the suit again.

I did refrain from blocking off access to the PA inventory (armor plates, FC) between the player being forced out of the suit and the actual self-destruction so not everything is lost. However, if the plates overencumber the player, he/she might not survive the ensuing explosion.

The script also only reacts to the player interacting with the suit, theoretically you could have a follower enter the suit and use it for any period of time. It will still self-destruct once the player enters it.

3. Compatibility

Should be compatible with basically everything, there is exactly one override on PowerArmorFurnitureT45_NoCore_Partial_Dmg50 (which is used only once in the game, sitting on top of the Museum of Freedom). If using Some Assembly Required, a patch is included.

This is obviously designed so restricting access to a power armor frame actually matters - meaning, you would want another mod (in addition to this) which makes the frames rare.

Users of FallSouls: You might want to re-enable auto-pausing for MessageBoxMenu; the implementation assumes that MessageBoxes will pause the game. Users have reported that being a slight incompatibility but there's no real to fix this on my end.

NOT compatible with Damn Apocalypse 0.9.1+ - this mod is actually a prototype for a feature I wanted in Damn Apocalypse and will be fully integrated into its power armor plugin, once it is released.
