About this mod

This mod attempts to replicate the Fallout 76 Power Armor collection system. When you're near a suit you have an interaction option to collect it. This places an item in your inventory under armor that you can then equip to spawn it in front of you.

What is this mod
This mod tries to replicate the same collection system for Power Armor that exists in Fallout 76. You can store the frame along with the core and equipped armor pieces in a lightweight inventory item. This makes transporting multiple suits from one location to another easy. Or having different suits for different needs.

You cannot collect owned frames (ones that give you the STEAL option).

This is similar to other mods that try to do the same thing. When you are staring at a Power Armor frame there is a new interaction option "COLLECT" to pick it up.

Features

  • Allows you to store an arbitrary and virtually unlimited number of Power Armor Chassis with custom unique names.
  • As in Fallout 76 each Power Armor Chassis that is added to your inventory weighs 10 weight each.
  • You can rename your Power Armor Chassis at an Armor Workbench and this persists through use and stowage.
  • Will automatically recall the chassis after 60 seconds if you do not enter it or start crafting at the power armor station.
  • Will automatically recall the chassis if you go too far away from it (default 8192 units - 2 CELLs, almost out of visual range)
  • You can register one frame for either a flare triggered or radio call remote drop. Useful if you wear Power Armor frequently but want to easily carry one for your companion(s).
  • HEDR version 0.95 to make it VR friendly (needs testing)
  • ESL flagged for non VR to be load order friendly. (ensured forms are within proper range)

How to use the mod

When near a Power Armor use the interaction key to COLLECT the suit. This places a Power Armor Chassis item in your inventory.

To call out the stored frame simply open your inventory to the armor tab and EQUIP the chassis item. It will be removed from your inventory and upon closing the Pipboy it will appear in front of you. If you pickup multiple frames without renaming this they will stack using the default name. So selecting a specific one is not possible without renaming them. If you have RenameEverything then they will automatically use unique names to prevent stacking.

To make it easier to rename them you have 3 basic options.
  • Install RenameEverything so they automatically use a numbered name when picking them up.
  • Place them in a container temporarily. Take one to the armor workbench and rename it. Then repeat with another.
  • Place them in the world either as a temporary deployment, or as an untimed drop. Then collect them one at a time and rename them.

Untimed dropping. If you need to place them in the world and don't want them to recall automatically then you need to drop the inventory chassis item. This will temporarily disable the recall system. When the mod spawns the frame after drop it will not start the recall timer or distance check. If you enter the frame or use the Power Armor workbench to craft on it, then when you get up the timer starts. If you collect the suit again it will keep the same custom name you might have previously set.

If you want to change the distance recall you can do so by entering a command at the console replacing the 8192 with your desired range. Do not use a negative number or anything less than 500. It will not behave properly. It's there as a safety mechanism so you don't lose your frame.
set dmPACollectionAutoRecallMaxDistance to 8192

Recent Changes

v1.03
  • QOL: Added code to uniquely name the Power Armor Chassis when collecting them if you have RenameEverything installed. If you don't, they still show up with the same name and stack as before. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/22105
  • QOL: Replaced COLLECT interact option on an already collected frame with MANAGE to allow additional options. Discarding from management, making it summoned via a flare, or summoned via a radio call. Summoning by flare or radio uses a 150s (2m 30s) auto recall timer and no distance check. These may be useful for companion frames that aren't used frequently as the weight for flare or radio is less.
  • Bugfix: Added work around code to fix a rare case where dropping the chassis from inventory may result in corrupted data making recovery of the frame difficult.
  • Bugfix: where crafted power armor frames, and some from 3rd party mods would not auto recall.
  • Bugfix: Reworked system to detect NPCs entering frames so it will cancel timer when entering, and start when exiting.
  • Bugfix: Reworked system to detect when activating frame to cancel timer so doing so near expiration won't cause glitch.

v1.02
  • Added NoReset zone to the holding cell as a safety measure. Shouldn't have impacted anything unless you entered the holding cell via console COC. But changed just in case.
v1.01
  • By popular request I changed the drop behavior of the inventory item. It no longer disassociates from the collected suit. Instead it places the frame without activating the timer or the distance check. This should make it less janky if you want to have a companion use it or want it to stay put on display or something.

Known Issues

This is a list of known issues or things to consider that cannot or will not be fixed. Mostly due to limitations of the game design systems.

  • When dropping a stack of chassis from inventory, they spawn all in the same spot. Or they may be slightly askew if you're moving while the system tries to move them in place. It may take time to spawn all the dropped units as a function of time depending how many you have collected and how many were dropped.
IMPORTANT WARNINGS

DO NOT UNINSTALL MID GAME. Only remove if you are starting a new game. Previous saves will be broken. All the stored Power Armors will be lost forever!
