Ever wonder why you can cook a Radstag Steak but not a Baked Tato?

Now you can!

Because eating nothing but meat isn't good nutrition, and I know you keep your Survivor safe and healthy.

Overview

This mod adds basic cooked versions of most crops and plants you can find in settlements or around the Commonwealth. These are meant to be rad-free, but there are irradiated options for the diehards. There are also optional combination items such as stirfry and chowder, which provide a bit more nutrition. There are optional items that work with Far Harbor if you have it installed. Most of the base items (Baked Mutfruit, etc) still get the Wasteland Survival perk bonus. Many of the combos have multiple recipes, so you can cook with Glowing Fungus or Cave Fungus. Items also include simple tags so they'll appear under Food in FallUI. (Base items are Food and combos are Soup so that they'll all group together.)

The original idea was to create cooked, rad-free versions of tatos and other crops to supplement the game's meat-and-junk-food diet. It makes no sense that you can prepare rad-free steak, but not rad-free corn. (Biological magnification, etc.) For the complainers, I think of "cooked" as properly prepared. Just like potatoes, rhubarb and lima beans contain toxins but are fine if cooked the right way, gourds and mutfruit are now safe to eat if properly prepared. There are also versions with rads if you insist that everything on the planet has become radioactive. The few recipes that require water use Purified Water because you're not an uncivilized animal.

This mod is primarily meant for Survival Mode. Based on my own games, this mod creates a glut of calories, since it's easy to grab 20 ears of corn at any settlement you stop at. If you end up with way to much food on hand, I recommend using the Survival Options mod to tweak your hunger settings.

I did not modify the weights or caps values of any of the basic foods because I want this mod to be compatible with other food mods. At some point, I may create a version with more realistic food weights and hunger values.

IAF Support

This mod now includes support for Immersive Animation Framework eating animations. IAF is not required, but the files contain the needed keywords to trigger IAF animations. You can choose IAF vs non-IAF in the installer. (If you select the IAF versions, you must have IAF installed.)

Compatibility/Installation/Removal

This mod does not require any other mods or DLC. If you have Far Harbor installed, there's a Far Harbor version in the install menu that includes Baked Blight Pods and other items. This does not modify any components of the base game, so it should be safe to use alongside other food mods.

To install, use Vortex, MO2 or another mod manager capable of installing FOMOD-based mods. From my own experiments, this mod is fine to install mid-game. You can install the full mod, or only install the files containing the Veggies items or the Combos items. Please let me know if you find any issues with the installer.

To remove, consume or delete any items provided by the mod (Baked Tatos, Panfry, etc), then use your mod organizer to remove the mod.

ALWAYS SAVE BEFORE ADDING, REMOVING OR ADJUSTING MODS!!!

Couldn't believe this wasn't a thing, so I decided to make it. The fact that people are still learning to mod this game in 2022 shows what an amazing piece of work it is.
