About this mod
CHANGE DOGMEAT INTO 19 COMPANION CREATURES! He transforms into everything from a cat to a Mirelurk Queen, each with dialog options to follow, stay, dismiss, trade, and activate items. Except for the cat, they all fight with ranged or melee attacks. Use a workshop to make doghouses that change him. Give him his ammo and weapons for ranged attacks.

"GO4 (Gameplay Optimizations for Fallout 4) Dogmeat Changer" is a great mod for those who want to have different kinds of creatures as companions without downloading many different mods. With one mod, you can now easily change your companion Dogmeat into 19 creatures, and then just as easily change him back into a German Shepherd. The companions you change him into are true followers who answer to commands like stay, follow, trade items, go there, pick that up, and more. Plus, with the latest update, he can do ranged attacks as a Bloatfly, Bloodbug, Deathclaw, Mirelurk King, and Mirelurk Queen.
The animals, insects, and other creatures he can turn into are an Attack Dog, Mongrel, Mutant Hound, Mole Rat, House Cat, Brahmin, Yao Guai Bear, Gorilla, Radstag, Radscorpion, Radroach, Bloatfly, Bloodbug, Stingwing, Mirelurk, Mirelurk Hunter, Mirelurk King, Mirelurk Queen and Death Claw. After transforming, Dogmeat looks, sounds, moves, attacks, and acts as expected. The cat licks its paws and cleans its fur, the Radstag attacks with its horns and hooves, the Yao Guai stands up high on its hind legs and sniffs the air, and the Mirelurk King acts like the monster from the old classic film, "The Creature from the Black Lagoon!"
π WHAT'S NEW
(1) Dogmeat can now do ranged attacks when he takes the form of a Bloatfly, Bloodbug, Deathclaw, Mirelurk Hunter, Mirelurk King, and Mirelurk Queen. The player must give him the "weapon" and "ammo" before he can do the ranged attacks. (2) The weapons and ammo are in Institute ammo cases added near the workshops at the settlements Sancturay, Red Rocket, and Bunker Hill.

βοΈ HOW THE MOD WORKS
"GO4 Dogmeat Changer" lets you use a workshop at any of your settlements to create one of 4 doghouses you can use to change Dogmeat. The doghouses are found in the Special build menu. There is also a doghouse outside the Red Rocket where you first meet him. You can have him activate it to turn him into one of the other canine creatures.
After creating a doghouse, talk to Dogmeat and use the option to command him to inspect it. When he does, he will change into a creature. If it's not the creature you want, command him to inspect the doghouse again, and he will change into a different creature. If you keep commanding him to inspect it, he will turn back into a German Shepherd. Each doghouse will turn Dogmeat into 3 to 8 different creatures, and then back into a German Shepherd, again. The created doghouses aren't "furniture" so he won't sleep in them. The normal doghouse that you can create for him with a workshop isn't changed by this mod, so he will still sleep in it when he is a canine.
The creatures he changes into won't become hostile like their lookalike cousins, so it's safe to take them to your settlements or other populated areas. Plus, you might get a kick out of strolling through Diamond City with a Deathclaw at your side! Right?
π WHAT YOU GET
There are 4 doghouses you can create at the Workshop of any settlement you are allied with, which turn Dogmeat into different animals, bugs, or other creatures:
- Doghouse (Canines) turns him into an Attack Dog, Mongrel, or Mutant Hound
- Doghouse (Insects) turns him into a Bloatfly, Bloodbug, Radroach, or Stingwing
- Doghouse (Mirelurks) turns him into a Mirelurk, Mirelurk Hunter, Mirelurk King or Mirelurk Queen
- Doghouse (Other Creatures) turns him into a Brahmin, Deathclaw, Gorilla, House Cat, Mole Rat, Radscorpion, Radstag, or Yao Guai (bear)
- One of each Doghouse added by the mod is found behind the houses of Sanctuary.
- One of the Doghouses is at the Red Rocket near Sanctuary and one is at Bunker Hill.
- Dogmeat's Ammo Boxes are located near the Workshop at Sanctuary, the Red Rocket near Sanctuary, and Bunker Hill. They each contain 50 ranged weapons and 5000 ranged weapon ammo for Dogmeat to use as a Bloatfly, Boodbug, Deathclaw, Mirelurk King, and Mirelurk Queen.
The existing doghouses, the doghouses you make, and the ammo boxes can be moved or scrapped using the Workshop.
Creature Stats
-----------------------
The latest updates give each creature Dogmeat turns into more balanced stats. The stats shown here for each creature are the starting health (H), unarmed damage bonus (UB), damage resistance (DR), energy resistance (ER), poison resistance (PR), and base carry weight (CW). The actual health of each will increase since Dogmeat gets an increasing health bonus as you level up. Carry weight decreases when playing Survival Mode. The list also shows creatures who have ranged attacks (RA) when you give Dogmeat the weapon and ammo for that creature.

π‘ GAMEPLAY TIPS
The creatures Dogmeat turns into that have ranged attacks are the Bloatfly (which shoots radioactive larva), Bloodbug (which spits radioactive blood), Deathclaw (which throws dirt and stones), Mirelurk Hunter (which spits poison), Mirelurk King (which emits a sonic blast), and Mirelurk Queen (which sprays poison). In some of these forms, Dogmeat can use a lot of ammo, so make sure to give him enough. You only need to give him one weapon. Do not give him the wrong weapon and ammo for the form he takes. The weapons and ammo are found in the red, Institute ammo boxes near the workshops at Sanctuary, the Red Rocket near Sanctuary, and Bunker Hill. The ability to make more ammo will be added to a future update.
Be creative and think ahead to get the most out of the mod. Before choosing a creature to change Dogmeat into, consider where you will have him follow you and what you will face. For example, if you're taking on a camp of super mutants, making him a Deathclaw might be a good choice. But if you're exploring the inside of an underground complex, such a large companion won't be able to follow you, so heβll have to wait outside. A Domestic Cat, Mole Rat, or Rad Roach companion might be good for immersion, but they won't do much damage in a fight. If you're expecting trouble when going underwater with your power armor, a Mirelurk King is likely a good choice. Use your imagination when considering your options for Dogmeat!
𧩠COMPATIBILITY WITH OTHER MODS
The mod changes only *one* existing game object (SkinDogmeat) so most mods should be compatible with it. However, it's possible a mod that changes the way Dogmeat looks might not be incompatible.
π§ KNOWN ISSUES & WORKAROUNDS
- Dialog options wonβt appear until your character is eye-to-eye with the creature Dogmeat turns into. Sneaking or commanding him to stay can help.
- If you walk away from Dogmeat while he is lying down in Radstag form, he will sometimes fail to stand up before he starts moving toward you. To get him to stand up, talk to him.
- In Mirelurk Queen form, Dogmeat won't follow you through doors, including the doors to enter and exit Diamond City and Good Neighbor. If this happens, go back through the door and tell him to stay, or fast-travel to a different location.
- In Brahmin, Deathclaw, Yao Guai, and other larger forms, he may be too big to move inside a building and become stuck after following you through a door. If this happens, exit the building and tell him to stay outside. Unless he is in a form that is the size of a dog or smaller, Make sure to tell him to stay before entering an elevator, otherwise, you might get stuck in the elevator and be unable to exit it when it reaches the next floor.
- A few animations for some creatures won't be available when Dogmeat takes their forms.
- In Bloatfly, Bloodbug, Dragonclaw, Mirelurk Hunter, Mirelurk King, and Mirelurk Queen form, Dogmeat won't use a ranged attack until you give him the "weapon" and "ammo" he needs. When the ammo runs out, he won't use the ranged attack until you give him more.
- If you have the Attack Dog perk enabled, Dogmeat will only grab and hold enemies in German Shepard and Attack Dog form.
- When in House Cat form, Dogmeat has no combat moves and will flee combat.
- If combat ends while Dogmeat is burrowing underground as a Mole Rat or Radscorpion, he might get stuck underground. To fix this, fast-travel or walk a distance from the location. The game mechanics will put him back above ground so he can follow you, again.
- Dogmeat doesn't have the animation indicating he is badly hurt after transforming into some of the creatures. If he won't move after combat, use a Stimpak to revive him if you're playing Survival Mode, or wait until he revives himself and starts moving if you're not using Survival Mode.
β DISABLING THE MOD
Before disabling the mod, be sure to command Dogmeat to inspect a doghouse and turn himself back into a German Shepherd. Once the mod is disabled, he will no longer have the "skin" of a creature he was changed into. This I might render him invisible if he wasn't a German Shepherd when you disabled it. You can fix this by enabling the mod, again, and commanding him to inspect a doghouse to turn him back into a German Shepherd. When you disable the mod, the doghouses added by the mod will disappear.
