Beacuse the FO4s damage calculation has a strong diminishing returns value, DR/ER on Power Armor doesn't matter to how much damage the player takes. Because the formula typically caps out around 70-80% damage reduced (given the kinds of numbers we're working with), in vanilla power armor will under all circumstances reduce incoming damage to the player by roughly 70% to 80%. And because the player has way less health than most power armor pieces, you will typically die long before your PA suit takes significant damage.
In previous games, the engine used a Damage Threshold mechanic, which meant that instead of weapons basically always dealing a minimum 20% damage to the player, PA could be a lot more effective, especially against small arms fire. This mod brings that mechanic back for Power Armor, and makes it the walking tank it should really be.
- Removes the 5% reduction per piece vanilla gives you
- While in PA, reduce incoming damage to the player by 75%
- Adds 2% of your Damage Resistance or Energy Resistance as a damage threshold (halved for Armor Piercing)
- Power Armor Armor values scale with the amount of health the piece has (ER is unaffected)
- 75 to 100% health - 100% armor
- 50 to 75% health - 86% Armor
- 25 to 50% health - 64% armor
- 1 to 25% health - 50% armor
The sum effect is that while in Power Armor the player is a lot more tanky, especially against small arms fire. A raider with a pipe gun won't be able to punch through your armor (and in some cases they'll actually recognize this, shout about how you're bulletproof, and run away). As your armor get damaged, it's resistance to small arms fire degrades, however it will still offer significant damage reduction to the wearer.
Compatibility
This mod uses a combination of perk effects that are added to the player while in power armor, as well as a couple tweaks to power armor damage related game settings. As such it should be compatible with mods that add new power armor.
Bastion - This mod also makes changes to the PA perk, if you want to use it, grab teh compatibility patch from the optional files section.
Known Issues
Because the FO4 engine isn't built for DT, there's a known bug where if DT reduces incoming damage below 0, it can actually heal power armor. If you encounter it, grab the fix from the downloads page in the misc section.
