You had it figured out all along my friend. The combination of this mod along with Mute Player Voice is the best solution to the non-silent protagonist problem. There are other mods doing essentially the same thing, but I find them too intrusive - doing way more than the solution requires.
For users of Sim Settlements 2, that mod requires you to leave the Dialogue Camera setting ON in the game as it relies on that for quests, etc. Thus, if you want SS2 while having an elegant, non-intrusive implementation of a silent protagonist, use this mod together with Mute Player Voice!
For anyone looking for a very specific solution to the varying experience of automatic dialogue, like say with mods like "Depravity", and the silent protagonist desire, I believe this mod is the only one that I found that actually fixes the issue of not being able to see the dialogue subtitles for when the character speaks outside of formal conversation, like in the first real conversation with Murphy and Stella, etc. This obviously depends on whether one enables the optional mute player plugin. Having the two plugins work in tandem with one another is honestly awesome. Thank you mod author!
Hopefully, this helps others on their search for ultimate compatibility.
You should never ever uninstall in any game, start, end or mid. It can seem at first that it had no effects until later on when it completely breaks the game. As a general rule if you want to uninstall, then you need to make a new game.
Thanks for the warning. This comment was from around when i was relatively new to modding and after 2 years of experience I've since learned for my self the "golden rule" of modding Bethesda games. Hopefully someone else who is just starting out will learn from this though.
Even the "golden rule" has flexibility though. For example, textures and sounds are usually safe to uninstall unless they have scripts to tied to them. Even if they have ESP's.
Freyr95 that is a very bad mentality to have Ima be honest. Instead of understanding the problem deeply and know what to do and not to do, you chose to be dull and stick by a rule. That rule is not completely wrong but also not completely right.
The rule is completely right. I'm not sure what there is to argue about.
The only mods which might be worth considering to uninstall after game has started are texture replacers without plugins (ESPs, ESLs, ESMs). Even mods coming with empty/dummy ones are NOT safe. Even removing pure (mesh) animation replacers can cause issues.
Some scripts or other resources will be baked into your save games. Launch xEDIT and you'll see that FORMIDs get shifted around when you remove mods with plugins. You're basically screwed at that point.
If you think you're more knowledgeable than experienced mod authors struggling daily with their users complaining about corrupted save games and trying to find a cure, be my guest.
Hint: there is NO cure. It's NOT safe, never has been.
I am just as knowledgeable as them, actually. I don't put mod authors on a pedestal. I have no issues because I know what the hell I'm doing. So speak for yourself.
I've installed and uninstalled literally hundreds of mods - from fairly insignicifant to full overhauls - during my several year-long playthrough and it is in fact doable, no matter how many people claim that it isn't. One very important caveat, however, is that you really need to know your way around modding, because some mods can render your game unstable or downright unplayable after uninstalling mid-playthrough, so you'll need to either change, add or remove certain files manually in order to salvage it. Besides that, you should always have a backup of all of your game files and saves on hand if you want to remove mods from an existing save, in case you need to revert your game to a previous state or overwrite undesirable files.
In short: removing mods (especially more impactful ones) during a playthrough can be very risky and I would generally advise against it, unless you're very experienced with modding and don't mind having to spend some time and effort fixing your game when things go wrong.
Something is causing my texture resolution to drop dramatically during and after a conversation; Next Gen here.
Who knows what the real problem is, but as soon as I go into this cool camera, the textures go low rez and stay that way until I reload the game. Tested without it on a new MO2 profile, and it doesn't happen during or after regular conversations any more. Of course, low rez does happen if there's a lot of fast travel as per usual with Bethesda games, but with this active, it happens every time I am in dialogue and stays that way.
Tried packing your loose files texture mods into a BA2. Try enb or specialK to increase vram usage for the game. The first one is much more recommended. You can try Cathedral Asset Optimizer for easy usage.
Looking at this specifically because of SS2 requirement for dialogue camera and find a sticky comment about it!. This is perfect, I could not go back to a voice protag.
I wish this just sat the camera in front of the player's face. There is an option to just disable the dialogue camera, but it's buggy and sometimes locks controls.
This completely breaks dialogue on the newest version with several lines overlapping. Nvm I didnt know this trash company made a game in 2015 that falls apart at uncapped framerates sorry

It's a terrible idea which can, and will, permanently ruin your save game.
