Hello all, first off, thanks for using my mod and I hope you all enjoy it.
I apologies for my hiatus, I have been busy with Skyrim modding lately as Fallout 4 is just too limited in tools, mesh support is a big issue at the moment and until the tools are updated, its headaches that id rather avoid.

This mod has not been updated to work with the DLC items. It should still work with all vanilla items in the game from the base game, however I do not own the DLC and cannot make a patch for DLC naming.

That being said, I have added Bottletopman to be able to edit this file. He will be working on getting a patch added to this mod to allow the DLC items to work with the same naming as this mod adds. In essence, this mod is now in his hands!

While I am here, If you are having issues with this mod not working for a particular type of item (armors, clothing, etc), then you are probably overriding it with another mod, Since this mod ONLY affects INNR records, it is safe to have it at the bottom of your load order without any conflicts, it will simply choose to use THIS mods INNR over another mod that may have edited them aswell.

21/10/2018: Given that only a few people seem to have issues which may be mod conflicts amongst other things while most people get it running without a hitch, as well as the fact that I've not touched FO4 for almost a year and don't intend to till F4NV comes out, on top of that looking at the Last updated date it's quite clear by now that I've long since stopped working on this mod. From one of the bug reports ruddy88 has mentioned working on a version of this that uses scripts to allow maximum compatibility for vanilla and custom items.

Ooooh, first time I've been given the reins of another mod, thanks ruddy!

Anyway ruddy's working on some skyrim stuff at the moment hence me helping out with this mod.

If only Fallout 4 had released during my funemployment period I'd be able to work on mods a lot faster, however since I'm making bread and I also want to play this game in my free time rather than modding, updates may be a little slow. Since this is just a matter of INNR record editing it's not so bad however.

Hi, i have F4 with all the DLC, if i install this mod through ModManager2, should i enable only the "all DLC" option? because modmanager installs all options

This has exactly zero effect on my game.
    Odd.

Needs a new game or have items be updated by modifying them at a workbench. Only affects items that use vanilla INNRs

Hello! Great naming! But unfortunately i found out that it's incompatible with my previous layout which was Valdacil's Sorting Mod + Def UI.
I used those to have a icons for items like, for exapmle, right leg ermor piece would have an icon of a right footwear, the same for the arms, etc. But the naming is better in your mod (love those vertical bar separator). Is it possible to keep the icons and have item naming from that mod? Or can i add vertical separators to all prefixes in some text file manually?

      This mod is outdated.
You could use my simple sorter mod which uses this naming style but also adds icons. However it doesn't have as many icon categories as vals

Thank you very much for answer. I found your Simple Sorter, but it's hard to tell from the screens, if it has icons for right leg, left leg, right arm, left arm? And from what i can tell, all weapons have the same icons? Unfortunately on the screens you don't have laser and other type of weapons...

Read the comments on that mod page, no icons but still sorted alphabetically so still get grouped

Then it's no good:( I need separate icons for each armor slot (right leg/left arm/etc) and separate icons for weapons type (laser/rifle/pistol/etc).
But i also wish to have vertical separators between prefixes ad your mod has. Is it possible to manually add those separators to some txt/xml file, while still using mods with icons? I remember when i first insalled Valdacil+DEF UI, i have manually changed some lines in Data\interface\DEF_CONF\DEF_INV_TAGS.xml, and it worked like a charm. May be there is a file like this for prefixes?
Or, alternatively, may be i can install your Simple Sorter and manually add tags there so icons would appear for right leg/left arm/etc?

You would have to edit several xmls on Val's mods, as well as edit the INNR records, or use this mod and manually add the tags for everything for Val's.
It's a big job and it's confusing work

Pretty much all of the defui ones.
It's too big a job to hold your hand through it, sorry.
Read up on the defui articles tab to see what each XML does.

Oh, i see. Yeah, it's far over the top of my knowledge. In that way, can i humbly ask you to add the option ArmorBySlot to your mod, becouse you obviously much more familliar and experienced with Fallout 4 files?
Thanks a lot in advance. I think, i'm not the only one who will appreciate that option.

      Sorry but no.
It is incredibly complex to be able to reliably add that feature to my simple sorter mod, its not just as simple as editing some XMLs, I would instead need to deduce a way to reliably identify the various armor slots in an automated way by way of coding alone.
The only other thing I could do is manually add tags to cover vanilla, but that then creates a need to patch mods for people to also work with them. I hate that idea, which is why I made the automated simple sorter to begin with, to avoid hundreds of patches. If you MUST have armor slot icons then there are other options, but it is not something I can offer on any of my mods due to being very different in how simple sorter is executed.

I can't say i understood all the explaining, but how Valdacil could make it if that's so hard?
And yes, i MUST have ArmorBySlot. I would use Valdacil, but i hate it's naming of items. Yours is much better, shorter, easy to say what are the differencies between too similair items.

Valdacil did it by manually editing INNR files and utilising keywords from AWKCR.
That IS possible on a manually made mod, but then requires patches for any mod that adds new items.
I am not going to make such a thing, as it would either be unnused, or I'd get innundated with requests for patches to make other mods work.
As I said, I HATE the idea of mods that then require hundreds of patches.
That is why I made Simple Sorter.
However Simple Sorter is not a manually made mod, it is a script that automatically patches your game and adds the required tags via coded logic.
Due to it being automated, it does not offer the same level of detail for armor slot icons, because there is no standardised way of determining what location an armor takes up, other than biped slots.
The problem with using biped slots, is that items use multiples. I cant just say "oh its using a chest slot, it must be a torso piece", because it could also be a full suit or dress, or half body piece etc. These are determinations that a human can make that a script cannot.
The only other solution would be to create a new ruleset for EACH biped slot and simply list ALL the slots an item uses rather than trying to categorise it. This is also, unfortunately, not possible, due to limitations on how many rulesets an INNR can have.

Trust me, I have spent many months on Simple Sorter, when I say it is no easy task, I damn well mean it, and don't appreciate when people become argumentative about things they know nothing about. This is not the first time someone has said "But Val can do it". Our mods are very, very different in how they work. Which again, only leaves the option to patch THIS mod, using the same method that Val did, but that is not something I am prepared to do because it would be utterly pointless. The moment you downloaded another armor or weapon mod, youd find that you didnt have the tags and youd come crawling back here to beg me to make a patch, and if not you then someone else will, and I am not prepared to support a mod in that capacity.
So, final word, is no, I do not mean to sound like an ass but this conversation is becoming a bit back and forth.

Thank you for your wide explanation and thank you for your time. Absolutely respect your position.
I didn't mean to "become argumentative". You absolutely right, there are things i know nothing about.

Yes, i understood now, that it would be almost impossible to do in your mod, or require many pacthes in other way.

Still, a small note, i don't recall Valdacil having a lot of turmoil with constantly making new patches.
And about "The moment you downloaded another armor or weapon mod..." = ummm, i thought if you download non-official 3rd party armor/weapon mod, and want it to be sorted the same way, than your way is to just use in-game options to rename item and add said tag by yourself, instead of bothering sorter author to patch?

The renaming in game does work, but is tedious and not something most people would want to do. still, choosing that option would still require me to make a lot of changes to the XML files for the icon tagging, which is still something I am not prepared to do for a one off request.

As for Val not making patches, that is true, because the onus was on the mod authors of weapon and armor mods to make said patches. It still required patches though, or mods to be made specifically for ViS. To expect that now is silly though, There is not much point in me remaking yet another sorting mod and expecting authors to go and re-upload patches for their work, and they likely wouldnt, so users would no doubt come and request them from me.

Why in case of Valdacil it was the modder's  onus and in your case it would be your own onus? I didn't understood the logic. Did you mean that now the community of modders is somewhat different then before? Forgive me, may be it's becouse English isn't my native, that's why i didn't catch the problem...

      That's exactly why.
ViS was around in early days, mod authors made mods to work with vis, I doubt it would be the same now.

Ok, yeah, makes sence, considering the game is 5 years old.

Btw, i tried to go with other side attempt - editing prefixes in Valdasil's mod (yes, i understand that it's probably not an easy task as well, as you told me, but... i think i just wanted to go and check what actually need to be done by myself:))
So i tried to search for the file that contains prefixes (presumably to add a vertical bar to each). I found a DEF_UI page and an article there, as you told me. I have ran through the article and tried every file listed there. But none of it has prefixes... I know it's not your mod, but may be you have any idea where i can find a file with armor prefixes to add vertical bars to it?

    Hello!

Came across this mod as I just started playing Fallout 4 recently.  And the inventory management structure is maddening!

However- I'm playing on Xbox 1.  And I discovered that this mod isn't located on Bethesda.net.

Is there any way the mod might could be ported over there so us Xbox players can use it?  (There's still FO4 activity over there!)

    Thanks-

(Edit to add: I have looked at some of the renaming mods available for xbox and they don't look as nice as this one does. Would really love to see it made available. Thanks!)

Ahh dang that's too bad. It would take up much less screen space that way & look alot cleaner. If you ever feel like adding a version like that, (no idea the difficulty of that) it would be very much appreciated by me man! I'm def not expecting anything though so I won't get my hopes up lol

Check out my Simple Sorter mod instead, if you dont want all the item tagging and DEFUI stuff then thats fine but the option INNR file on that mod is essentially the same as this mod, but has been updated a little better. (Can be installed on its own without all the other components of the simple sorter mod)

Theres an optional file on my sorting mod for my INNRs, that file is essentially this mod slightly reworked to play nice with the sorting. It uses the same naming conventions as this mod does so you dont need this mod at all.

Edit: the innr optional file needs to be installed before the patch is run, as the patch will still add the armor tags to the innr.

      For the most part yea.
This mod doesnt change any of the weapon or omod records, just the innr records that control dynamic naming.
That mod does alter modifications, but as long as it doesnt add entirely new modifications and doesnt alter the innr records then they should work fine together

Couldn't agree more. Just coming here to integrate it with DEF_UI (inv only). Still the cleanest, least intrusive sorting system out there. I always glance to this one in worry whenever there is a big update.

@Criticool, have a look at my new mod "Simple Sorter". It uses a FO4Edit script to auto tag all sorts of items for use with DefUI icon tags, the INNR optional files I added use the same naming conventions as this mod. Might be easier than trying to manually patch everything yourself.
