I've been getting that annoying bug again where a really persistent and annoying clicking sound gets stuck to an NPC (Preston this time). It's usually referred to as "turret sound". There are several mods already attempting to fix this, but none of them worked for me, so here's my attempt at a fix.
Thanks to kakinotane2000 and his mod NPC Turret Sound Fix for pointing out that the bug is related to NPCs using the Armor or Weapon Workbench.
I then used BSA Browser (with .BA2 support) to rifle through Fallout4 - Sounds.ba2 to find the sound. Turns out the culprit is located in Sound\FX\UI\Workshop\SewingMachine. That annoying sound is a sewing machine, not a turret, which is part of some workbenches.
What this mod does:
It replaces both sewing machine audio files with empty versions (Audacity ftw). Just copy it into your Fallout 4 game directory and make sure the game is using loose files.
Drawbacks to this:
1. This mod doesn't fix the script or whatever it is that causes the sound to get stuck to an NPC in the first place, you just won't hear the sound anymore.
2. Of course this will affect how workbenches will sound when used since these two sounds will be missing. I tried it out and I barely notice it.
Compatibility:
It should be compatible with pretty much everything since it just overrides two sound files which I suspect no one has ever touched before.
