I have over 2000 hours in FO4 and have not seen a rad rat explode once. Guess you learn something everyday. Also that image at the top of the page looks like Kellogg is getting real comfortable with his love interest that happens to be a Gen 1 Synth. I find that very entertaining.

Apparently it's not a bug, Legendary animals have their own Legendary "effects" like weapons, armor and some clothes can, including 2X damage and radiation cloaks. Mini-Nuke exploding happens be one of them too, but rarely used.

They may have the same effect in 76 as well.

I wonder if you could change their model and add a watch like the Rat bombs in Wanted.

I don't know why, but the legendary Radrats are programmed as if they were legendary robots, hence the mini nuclear explosion when they die.

This is so weird. I play with mods that disable legendary creatures, weapons, and their effects, so I've never encountered a legendary rad-rat. It is hilariously disturbing learning this is a thing in the actual game, intentionally placed there by Bethesda. I have to say, I can't imagine why they put it in there, but I can totally see why this mod would be useful for those wanting to disable it. Cheers.

It's unexplained, and there's logically no explanation either. Bethesda flexing their crap creativity yet again
