About this mod

Adds effects to the Wasteland Survival Guide issues 1 and 3 for use when playing with a mod that removes healing from food items, since both of these magazines previously increased the amount of healing from certain types of food.

Permissions and credits
This mod adds the following effects to issues of the Wasteland Survival Guide:
  • Wasteland Survival Guide #1: Farming the Wastes - Gain an extra ingredient whenever you harvest plants (you can choose between a 100% chance or a 25% chance in the installer)
  • Wasteland Survival Guide #3: The Bright Side of Radiation Poisoning - Gain +5% experience if you have at least 100 rads

Note that this mod is intended to be used in conjunction with a mod that removes healing effects from food items, such as Food Don't Heal. Because of how these two perks worked originally, with every affected food item checking to see if the perks were granted, these effects will stack with the original perk effects if you do not have a mod to remove healing from food items!

Compatibility

Make sure this is lower than the mod that removes healing from food items, since that probably changes the descriptions for the perks to tell you they do nothing.

This mod makes changes to vanilla records that can potentially cause incompatibilities. Specifically:
  • It changes the perks for Wasteland Survival Guide 1 and 3
  • It changes the Wasteland Survival Guide 1 book to use a script when picked up
  • It changes all of the flora records to use a leveled list instead of a static ingredient

Sorting mods are the most likely to conflict, since those often change the perk and book records to give them new names. You should put this lower than your sorting mod's ESP. The installer includes an option to install VIS tags, or you can use a sorting mod like Ruddy88's SImple Sorter that generates a patch for your mod list to avoid the patching mayhem that other sorting mods require. If you put this lower down in the load order and you're using some other sorting mod, you won't get tags but at least it will work.

If a mod uses the base flora records but does not change them, this will be compatible and the perk for extra harvesting will still work. If a mod changes the base flora records or adds brand new ones, the perk will not work on anything that is different or new.

Installation

Install using a mod manager that supports FOMODs, such as Vortex, as the installer has a few options. Manual installation is not recommended. 

It is safe to install this mid-playthrough, but if you install it after you pick up Wasteland Survival Guide 1, the new perk won't work. You can fix this manually using the console by issuing the command set extraharvestchance to 0
(or 75 if you want a 25% harvest chance instead). It should also be safe to remove this mod mid-playthrough, as the only script is triggered only when you read Wasteland Survival Guide 1, and it only sets a global variable. In general it's not a great idea to remove mods mid-playthrough, but I think this one should be a low risk.

Known Issues

  • The extra harvest chance does not work for Thistles or planters
  • There is no longer a notification when you harvest plants, but you do still receive items
