Mod Organizer 2 comes with it's own INIs locations, they're stored in MO2/Profiles folder, so if you want to use BethINI for tweaking it's necessary to set proper MO2 location and its configuration files. Just to let you know. Check spoiler:

When I use the ShadowBoostFO4.ini you provided, all enemies, turrets, NPCs, etc. in the game are only visible within a 4/5 meter range. Once they go beyond that distance, they disappear. (I can't see them, but they are there. Imagine this scenario: enemies are attacking you, but you can't see them. It's like you're blind. This sucks).
It took me a few days to figure out that it was causing this problem. I was confused and couldn't understand why it was working like that on the default settings. Obviously, this is devastating to the gaming experience. I had to delete ShadowBoostFO4.ini because I didn't know how to tweak it.
Thx for feedback. You can always set each option for SB in its INI. All info can be found on the mod's page. Obviously, settings provided in this guide are about to sacrifice quality for performance.
Update: 26/02/2024: Guide now available only as PDF file, mostly because bbcode played hard games with me by having issues with spoilers, images loading, broken code or malfunctioning quotes. It should be much more handy now.
Hi, I would like to report a problem I followed the guide step by step(omitting the parts of the NG update since I downgraded to the OG version) and the game does not start, MO2 gives me a compatibility error with LooksMenu but I also have the OG version of the mod. I specifically play Fo4 v 1.10.163
Thank you for these recommendations. My frames are high, as you can see. I have noticed that some textures don't seem to load fully, which setting governs this and what would be the recommended value to increase the texture quality? The armor pictured used to load with more detail but I didn't take a picture of it at the time.
Looks to me like low res bug. Idk if you use ENB or Shadow Boost but if you do, then try to turn it off and see if it helps, sometimes ENB or Shadow Boosters configs can cause low-res bugs.
You might wanna try to change below settings:
bForceUpdateDiffuseOnly=0 (must be 0) iTextureUpgradeDistance1= iTextureUpgradeDistance0= iTextureDegradeDistance1= iTextureDegradeDistance0=
That ain't what you wanted to hear, but you should check the game after installing each mod to see if it doesn't introduce any bugs. After every single one. I know it's not funny if you have 200 mods lol.
I don't use either. I'll fiddle with those settings and see if it improves. I am very diligent with mod installs and even setting changes which is why I noticed this to begin with. But if it's a "sometimes" bug it could be from something else that only just popped up, so am gonna play around with an older version of my load order using default settings and see if it happens again.
Here's another setting for texture mip map problems, it solved my low res texture trouble - along with doubling my video ram with a gfx card upgrade (4gb to 8gb), the settings come from a pdf in this guide.
Fallout4Prefs.ini [Display] iTexMipMapSkip=0 - This forces the game to rarely downgrade textures, albeit with some performance loss. - If you have good hardware, try iTexMipMapSkip=-1 so the textures never downgrade. - You can also try iTexMipMapSkip=1 if the performance hit is too much for your system.
I use the 0 setting and notice no performance loss, im using an 8 year old gtx1080
Thank you for this! It really helps me with big mods like SS2. Before this guide, I was already using most of the mods on your list without actually knowing how to use them and ended up with ctds. Its like drinking medicine without a doctor's advice.
typicall with fallout 4 performance guides the author has no idea what he is talking about and chooses settings based of how he thinks it affect performance and how it sounds to him
For example: there is almost no difference in performance between "iMaxAnisotropy=2" and 16. The difference in fps is only present when incerasing to anything above 0, and the performance loss is really minimall (if you'd look at nvidia guides you'd see). so set this to 16 allways or to 0 if you want +2 fps, but setting this to anything else is just wasted performance for ugly image
Also the first thing he suggest to do is to incerase decrease resolution for better performance, while this is the last thing you want to do if you really have to. (subpixel layout) Performance will incerase only in gpu bottleneck situations and graphic will look terrible due to not running on ur native resolution.
a lot of other sht like that, but its present in all performance guides made by kids who set their laptop battery setting on "Performance mode" because it sounds like it incerases performance XD
So just use "Fallout 4 Graphics, Performance & Tweaking Guide" by nvidia
Also the first thing he suggest to do is to incerase resolution for better performance
are you seeing things bro? it litteraly says
Decreasing screen resolution can noticeably improve performance.
yes it will only help gpu but even that is a huge help so it is a performance gain depending on your hardware. my man here won't be able to help increasing everyone's performance but he gave us alot of useful info that anyone with a brain can tweak and reshape for their own hardware
if you have a helpful tip, criticism etc. you can say it in a more friendly manner.
I meant to say "decrease", its obvious from the sentence. decreasing resolution for perfomance is the dumbest thing you can do. its like sitting further to the screen to incerase the graphics, and blinking 30 times a second to incerase framerate, but unlike my examples this will accually hurt your experience.
Yes you will gain performance if ur GPUbottlenecked BUT the image quality is gonna be terrible, subpixel resolution is gonna make the image waay worse, so basically if ur not using 1/4 of ur monitor resolution (at this point you might wanna use your phone screen as monitor) the image is gonna be blurry and really ugly. and it wont even affect performance for most people that are cpu bound, because fallout is cpu intensive game
also I am friendly and I gave the actually good advice, im not gonna sugarcoat stupid and hurtfull advice tho
Yes, it's mentioned at the begging that graphics quality might drop after using some of the mods or tweaks. It's about performance in here sir, not the quality. Same with resolution. Lowering it will always give you some fps boost with obvious quality loss. You don't like, don't touch the resolution. And I believe we can end this subject in here.

English is not my native language, so I used Google Translate.

Your guide is not that bad, just a few things that should be explained better, still way more usefull than what bethesda explained in laumcher
