its still low in dmg, i play on survival and i've got more damage with the overseers guardian which isnt a bolt action but semiauto with 33 rounds per minute
thats 6k dps.. give a higher dmg option, 250 ish or something...

The Overseers guardian does double damage each shot, though, so that's not so weird. Also, I'm assuming you're using the .308 receiver on it.

Actually, the "Two Shot" modifier does not do double damage, it's actually in the neighborhood of a 44% increase over standard weapons. At least according to the tooltips in my unmodded game.

The "two shot" modifier is in fact terrible on sniper rifles because it lessen the gun's accuracy in both shot, the original and the additional one.
"two shot" is the very and maybe only effective on guided missile launcher and fat man.

Oh, it also comes in handy when you set the overseer as an assault rifle, believe me. The dmg this thing does is insane, I literally switched to a different weapon now (also to try out some neat mods of course) because I'm not even in the glowing sea, story wise (lvl. 50, 250h+ in to the game, that's my thing with Bethesda OW games), and I literally fear fucking nothing. Mirelurk Queen, so fucking what, who cares. Overseer's a frickin' MONSTER.

i love 2 shot combat rifles... usually i hate using assault rifles
but found a 2 shot assault rifle once and it was actually a decent weapon...

i think possibly other legendary effects might be better for hunting rifles as they are slow
instigating etc... combing all stealth bonuses etc for 1 hit kills

Thanks for this! I've been looking for a mod that made .50 cal actually useful but didn't just increase the damage for no trade. I like how you edited the .50 cal receiver so that it was more or less intended to be a one-shot weapon for long-range because of the slower reload and fire rate making it different from the less powerful but faster firing Combat rifle. I'll definitely try this out later!

a .50 cal or 12.3 isn't anywhere close to being 6x more powerful than a 308 man wtf

Kinetic energy of a typical .308: about 3,600 Joules (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.308_Winchester - see side panel)
Kinetic energy of a typical .50:about 18,500 Joules (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.50_BMG#Power - see side panel)

Not *quite* 6x (though if you pick and choose which of each you compare, it's over 6x), but it is certainly *close to* it. It's just not that hard to find information anymore, man, wtf?

That said, even MacGyver couldn't turn a .308 into a .50 cal rifle using duct tape and a paint can, so the appeal to "realistic" performance of the upgraded guns is a bit one-sided...

I have a very strong inkling that the .50 Bethesda used wasn't the big .50BMG but instead something like the .50 Beowulf (considering that the box states "290 grain", less than half the size of a .50BMG), which isn't too dissimilar than the .308. Just has more a bit more stopping power and is less ideal for longer range shooting.

That's what I was thinking too. Damn, you beat me to it, it seems!

I think that it's supposed to be a porting-over of the 12.7mm ammo from previous fallout games, rather than an anti-materiel round

No, the standard AR-15 receiver IRL is tough enough to be converted to fire .50 Beowulf; Alexander Arms makes uppers for exactly that purpose.

There IS a .50BMG upper you can get for an AR-10, but it's single-shot only, and it has a strong tendency to beat the hell out of your receiver. You have to properly build a weapon to handle a cartridge like the .50BMG.

And then there's the fact that the Pipe Pistol can be modded to accept a .50 Receiver. There is NO WAY IN HELL your hand would survive trying to shoot a .50BMG pistol. You'd lose the whole forearm trying.

Yep - a fired .50BMG round will sear flesh if passing within 18 inches (45.72 cm) of a living target. Our ".50BMG pipe pistol" would explode spectacularly if fired.

@snowburn14, but MacGyver could infiltrate a terrorist camp on a barren mountaintop, wearing a bright, multi-colored beanie.

Someone should make a mod that changes the pipepistol .50 receiver to explode at the player(and insta kill) whenever you try to fire it... Then just casually slip it into a few random mods(like standalone armors) and not tell anyone about it. immersion.

Should not .50 ammo have a greater range too? And a LOT more kickback?

definitely not more range, maybe kickback but just use the giant muzzlebrake if you need to rp that badly.

actually it would most definitely have more range. a hand loaded .308 in the hands of a competitive shooter is capable of about 1200 yards more or less max. There a many, many, many recorded and confirmed shots/hits at well plus of a mile, in some rare cases, more than 2 miles. I understand not allowing that much range for balance reasons in a video game, but even still the .50 should be capable of more range than a .308.

    So, I got a question:

Is it normal that my damage with .50 cal Hunting rifle is dealing only 80?
i got only 4th rifle skill.

So i have to upgrade to 5th level, so i could deal 180 dmg?

umm, 50. cal ammo is not rare, I have more 50. cal ammo than 10mm ammo xD

but yeah, I too would expect a 50. caliber shot to do allot of damage

I fully agree about the power not being high enough with the .50 BMG. When you nail a Gunner right in the ear, he should do more than shake his head.

Yeah. I guess they are talking about early game. The .50 cal is probably a late game weapon.

I was thrown off by that comment as well, I found .50 rounds IN vault 111.... and by the time I could actually use them, I have over 1000!

Yeah, I found an exploding 10mm pistol as my first legendary, and took 3 ranks of scrounger to try and find more 10mm bullets.

Now I'm rolling in .50 cal bullets, use the .50 pipe pistol as my main weapon, and my supply is constantly increasing. Still no 10mm bullets though :/
