This mod is no longer supported.  I will not be providing bug fixes for this mod, or any of my other mods which use VotW.

So another film for Valentine's Day with VotW?

Yep.  And a standalone book now.

Does it have chocolates in a heart shaped box with it?

Yep.  If you go buy them yourself.  The same goes for popcorn and drinks too.

Oh, er, is it a chick flick or a romcom?

Yeah kind of.

So tell me what it is then?

It's the original The Thing from Another World (the 1951 version) that was remade by John Carpenter in 1982.

I've also converted the novel of Who Goes There by John W Campbell Jr to Vaul-Tec Kindling(1)  format.

Well that's not very romantic is it?

No, and I never said it was.  What it is though is considered one of the best sci-fi films of the 1950s, and it's also number 87 on the American Film Institute's 100 Years... 100 Thrills list.  See!  No expense is spared for my mods.

It's public domain isn't it?

OK, I'll amend my last statement.  See!  No expense is spent on my mods!

Anyway, how do I get it?

It comes in six bloody flavours - standard and combo ESP, the premium and premium combo ESL version, and the book only (ESP and ESL) version.  If you just want the book then download it either the ESP or ESL version, and off you go.  Bye.  See ya.  The door's that way -----> (2).  Oh, and don't forget to manually activate if you choose the ESL version.

If you want just the video, or the video and book then download the main file.  This is an all-in-one installer and will give you choice between those, and whether you want it in ESP or ESL.  If you choose the ESL, make sure it's manually activated.  For the book only, just download the AIO installer in the optional files.

Crafting them also differs depending on whether you have the combo or standalone version.  If you have the combo version then the book will appear in the VotW holotape menu for the video.  It's completely complimentary too, so costs nothing to craft.  If you have the standalone book version then go to a chem workbench and look under the Vault-Tec Kindling section and the book will be there.  It costs 1 aluminum, 1 circuitry and 1 plastic (same price as VotW tapes).

Anything to be aware of?

Yes.  The standalone version might end up with you locked in the chems workbench.  This isn't something I can really help, and comes about from having way too many craftable items installed, causing the menus to occasionally freak out.  If this happens open the console and type player.moveto player and that should pull you out.

To stop it happening open the menu, give it a few seconds, click to the create the holotape, when the cost window appears wait a few more seconds, then accept and wait until the writing goes from the top left hand corner before bombing out.  It's a pain, but it seems to work.

Also, if you install the book and video already have the video only version, you'll probably have to make the video holotapes again.

Does the premium ESL version have chocolates in a heart shaped box?

Yes.  It really does (3).  Apart from that there's no other difference than it doesn't take up a mod slot.

Legal stuff?

All content included in this mod is assumed to be in the public domain, and is used on a  fair-use basis.

While this mod is opted into donation points, 100% of all DP goes to support all six charities Nexus supports.  I do not profit in any way.

Anything else?

Yep.  A happy Valentine's Day to you all!

Oh the footnotes?

1 - Vault-Tec's original idea for the Kindling was good, but the tag line of "Burn Your Books Like You're in Germany, 1933!" didn't go down to well.

2 - Depending on orientation and direction of monitor/sitting position.

3 - I've lied.  No chocolates are included in any of my mods.
