Ok, it may not be the masterpiece Carpenter crafted, but it's still one of the BEST films for thrills and suspense. MUCH better than the "dead teenager" movies of the past decades (and yes, I lump Nightmare and Halloween in that despite the hype about them, and, yes, I've seen them unfortunately). Its an opinion, folks.
Anyway, thank you for doing this! Despite not including the chocolates...

I think you need to look at both versions as different stories inspired by the same thing.  I also prefer the Carpenter version, but most of his films are really good because he understands pacing and how to create tension.  I'm not into slashers, but the original Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween et al still deserve to be classics.  They have given us some iconic baddies and had a lasting influence.  The downside is the IP holders allowing terrible sequels and cash grabs, that tend to sully them.

Yeah, sorry about the chocolates.  If I had included the chocolate they would have been about two years out of date by now.

I had to take a break from Cyberpunk because it's a buggy mess.  We're all used to that since we play Bethesda games.  To the point.  This particular video is special.  The John Carpenter version is a masterpiece.  Pure fun with latex and cornstarch and it has Kurt Russell.  The original version was the acting debut of one of the most iconic TV actors of the 60s and 70s:  James Arness.  The man who embodied the stereo typical western lawman in the series Gun Smoke played the Thing (monster).  This movie used to be pretty hard to find.  It was restored and archived about 10 years ago, thankfully.

I get a "can't keep that here" message when I try to put the tapes into my tv player.

edit: nevermind, problem is on my end.

House on Haunted Hill has been added to the conversion list so it will appear in a couple of weeks - probably sooner because I'm in quarantine (COVID blows goats).

Unfortunately, A Night to Remember doesn't appear to be in the public domain . This means that if I uploaded it I'd be breaking the Nexus T&Cs, at risk of legal action and I'd have to find a decent source for it. Sorry about that.

Dear lord no. I shudder to think how many holotapes I'd need just for part one. Technical limitations of VotW (not the mod authors fault), means that you can only have a maximum of just over 10 minutes which is why I have to chop the movies up.

Anyway, it's not public domain and I don't want to be sued.

I grew up loving this movie, mostly because my great-uncle, Lee Greenway, was the makeup artist for the film. Thank you for putting it in my favorite game!

I preferred John Carpenter`s "The Thing". But I guess the 1950s one is more appropriate.

Also, people still do valentine`s? I thought most guys had figured out what a con it was by now.

I'll be honest, the John Carpenter one will be my favourite, and people always tend to prefer the one they see first. I have the same argument with my son over IT. He's seen the modern remake, so he's more into the new one, whereas the 1990 version with Tim Curry as Pennywise is the one I prefer. Anyway, apparently there's going to be yet another remake of The Thing, and I'm just hoping they don't kill it.

Damn I clicked thinking it was that one, but in hindsight this make much more sense. College is melting my brain. Time to melt people in Fallout I guess, gonna pick this up anyways!

There`s another remake coming up? I didn`t know that. Oh dear, i`m scared they will ruin it. Remakes very rarely turn out good, especially with the crap Hollywood churns out at the moment. I just don`t think today`s movie makers have the grit they need to do it justice.

@ Infirnis : I don't do requests as a rule, but I've found the original novella, originally called Who Goes There by John W Campbell Jr, *appears to be* in the public domain and has an expired copyright. I'll whack it on a holotape and make it a craftable item at the chemistry bench, as an optional download. However...

The Pipboy and terminal aren't really designed for reading text walls. The amount of characters displayed on screen is really low, and from a previous experiment* that it can look really weird. It can also really stress your eyes, especially if you're dyslexic (one of my son's mates who has dyslexia says text heavy stuiff in Pipboy is really difficult to read), and I don't like giving people headaches.

Keep an eye out for it coming soon...

      ETA: It's up.

      * - Trying to convert the complete works of Shakespeare into text format to tie in with the Rex Goodman quest - it didn't make sense that he never had copies of his "teaching" materials on him unless he had a photographic memory and could remember all 150-odd sonnets as well as the plays.

I think the main reason was it could be classed as offering incentives to download the mod, which is against the T&Cs of Nexus (I think).

Also it would be a total nightmare. I'd have to make sure all the allergy ingredients were listed on there, make versions for vegans, that were Kosher or Halal, diabetic friendly, made from organic free range ethically grown cocoa that's grown in an environment that provides mental stimulation and enrichment to the plant. I did try some digital transmission of chocolate, but I'm lucky my computer has a wifi back up, as it got stuck when I forced it into the ethernet port, and is now slowly melting.

      So yeah, sorry about that..
