For anyone looking for the key, here's a completely unsubtle hint:
Spoiler:
Show
It's on the roof to the left of the one directly above the door to the house; from the awning that covers the door and workshop, there's a small roof which you can use to get onto the bottom of a fire escape, and the fire escape is attached to the front of a windowed building with a flat roof. The key is on the left side of that flat roof where it meets the next building over (grey one with power cables attached to it). You can either build up to get it, or go to the building a couple of streets away near Diamond City with the Super Mutants and scaffolds to get onto the roof there and work your way over to it.
Hope that helps! If all else fails the console can be used to add the key to your inventory (##00E765) or you can just use the "unlock" command on the door.
It's not something I'd do to be honest, I prefer the repaired wasteland look to anything too clean and neat, and I don't think the assets I used to build it with even have "clean" versions. It'd be doable if you cloned the statics for the walls etc and replaced the textures on them but I'm not one for texture work really.
I was able to "clean" (somehow) it with the Snappy Housekit mod. It renders nicely. Will post some screens to it sometime later. Plus, I did savel this into a Transfer Setlement profile for future use.
For those trying to wire things to the house's internal power source, don't waste your resources creating a new generator. You will, however, need a mod like Place Everywhere to get this to work, and I highly recommend it if you're not using that mod.
There are 3 power conduits behind the walls. One is above the basement, near the wall farthest from the switchbox. The other two are on the main floor when you first enter, behind the wall with the stairs. I don't recommend moving them, and scrapping/storing them will permanently ruin the included power setup. Instead, connect new power conduits to them and work it out from there.
This mod is exactly what I was looking for in every single way. Tried Interior Apartments and had the same experience as you. Found Eli's mod after that and had the same thoughts as you. Thank you for sharing this!
Cheers, you're most welcome. It was quite a labour of love to get it all working and set it up how I liked it, so I'm glad others are still getting use out of it :)
Thank you for making this. I really like the apartment. Very cool. I did run into the problem of not being able to scrap the shack that has the big chest in it with Place Everywhere. That thing is seriously in the way for the build I am trying to make, so I will have to use this next playthrough. But I really like what you did here. Good stuff.
Did you use "Ins" to allow extra object selection? It might do the trick. Or failing that use the console to disable it. Could just be a load order thing though. I never had any issue like that luckily for me!
I did use the extra object selection. Almost everything else was selectable as normal...just not that shack. Who knows. I may reinstall and just use the console. I really like what I came up with for Hangman's ..I should visit it more. Be cool to have my house there. Give me a reason to come around.
I've just had someone ask if this is compatible with a Blueprint I uploaded for Hangmans Alley - I downloaded and got the door, found the note, but I can't find the key. I've built all over the area mentioned and wonder if it is hidden under something I have built.Could you pm me a clue - don't answer in here as would be a spoiler - thanks.
Anyone feel free to let me know :)
Edit: Thanks to battlebrother13 for helping me find the key :)

This is my main house now, good job.
Glad you're enjoying it anyway :)

Good job with the junk on the table the place really looks lived in.
