About this mod
Adds new material modifications for the handmade rifle that can be applied the same way as the Pack/Operators/Disciples material. The new skins focus on making the weapon more similar to the chinese assault rifle from other fallout games, by recoloring the wood grey and/or adding communist colors and symbols. Also includes red glow/reflex sights.

The new materials retexture the weapon to look more like the Chinese Assault Rifle from previous Fallout games. You can modify the weapon to make the wooden parts more grey/beige/dirty white-looking similar to the CAR, or you give the weapon a more explicitly communist feel, recoloring the plastic grip red with a yellow star, add a red star on the receiver cover, and turn the scope lense red, or do both. You can also mod the plastic grip to be colored white to better match the grey wooden parts.
Second, this mod also adds 3 new sight modifications to the Handmade Rifle, these being red variants of the Glow Sights Reflex Sight (Dot) and Reflex Sight (Circle).
Note that whilst all of these modifications are quite easily craftable, they're not integrated into the world in any way, you have to make them yourself. The mod is intended for those who want to do some sort of communist-related role-play or who just want the pale wodden grips and stocks and/or red glow sights to make give their Handmade Rifle a bit more menacing contrast.
Regarding Compatability:
- This mod was made to be highly compatible and does not overwrite any entries, EXCEPT the crafting recipe for the STANDARD material for the Handmade Rifle. This recipe is otherwise only unlocked after a certian point in the Nuka-World questline, but in this mod you may need it to be able to convert your weapon back to standard looks before that, so I made that recipe show up from the start.
- This mod should be compatible with other mods for the Handmade Rifle that make use of the vanilla texture&material files, such as Handmade Rifle Classic Barrel by Satojo.
- This mod includes material swaps and edited diffuse textures for certain other mods that add new stock components to the Handmade Rifle. This means that the stocks added by these mods will also be retextures appropriately if you select a material with grey wooden parts. Note that this mod only includes textures that can be applied to these stocks if they are present, the actual FEATURES of those mods are not included in this mod. The mods are:

- Similarly, the mod is compatible with the mod Handmade Rifle Extension by ShadowRanger787, as that mod mostly draws upon the standard material files that this mod works with, and contains a replacement texture for the Galil(Israeli) barrel, so that all wooden parts from that mod can be retextured by this mod. However, since this mod adds stars to the receiver cover, and since HMRExtension re-uses some of those same texture areas, parts of a red star can be randomly visible on some of the sight models added in that mod. The simpelest way to fix this is to download the "Smooth Receiver Cover moved Star" file in the optional file section, which moves the red star on the smooth receiver cover so that it does not overlap any of the texture used by parts from HMRExtension, as far as I'm aware.
- The Red Glow Sight, Red Reflex Sight (Dot) and Red Reflex Sight (Circle) all have crafting recipes identical to those of their normal counterparts, but they each use the same Miscmod (loose mod component) as the corressponding vanilla sights. This means that if you have a normal Reflex Sight (Circle) on your weapon, you can simply take that one off by exchanging it for something else such as Standard Sights, and then get a Red Reflex Sight (Circle) without needing to craft it, by re-using the Miscmod that you got from taking the old Reflex Sight (Circle) off. This may be useful for mod such as Horizon by Zawinul that change the recipe for objects such as Reflex Sight mods, because you can use the recipe edited by that mod to make a standard green sight, and then take that off and put it back on as a red sight, so that you can get the red sight for the same price as you would the other sight.
- If you use any mod that changes the charging handle of the weapon to be on the right side of the gun, it is recommended that you download the "Right-Handed Red Reflex Sights" optional file that replaces the .nif files for the new red reflex sights, so that they're mounted on the gun's left side and don't look like they're in the way.
(Possible)Problems:
- I've sometimes had some strange issue with parts of the textures for the re-skinned parts sometimes temporarily appearing as mess of white and colorful static in-game. However, I've had a similar issue with another mod I'm using as well, so it could be some strange problem that's just on my end. Alternatively, maybe it could have something to do with the type of compression or other save setting I use on the textures or something, in which case you can feel free to inform me how I should best save my textures. I don't even know what to google for, so if there is a problem and you know what it is, let me know. Btw, I usually work in Gimp 2 or Paint.net, cuz I'm a crazy person who can't be bothered to use a propper texture-editing program.
- It's also possible I generally forgot something or did it wrong because I'm a dummy, just send some angry comments about it if I did and I might get myself to fix it.
