this mod had a goal of being drop and play but game mechanic forbid me if all overlays are enabled black face bug stays on your faces also as incompatible overlays are there if none overlays are enabled u get the mod in a state it is now, erasing eyebrows, scars, makeup, blemishes, etc etc
use it as troubleshooting tool only if it fixes your face it means some of the overlays ure complaining about caused a bug in the 1st place so go on examine each one and delete those that cause u problems, the word is overlays of different texture size then face will cause this bug, so use common sense and resize or delete some of your overlays
this mod has a purpose to determine if your bug is caused by face overlays or something else if it is something else u have a lot of talented mod authors here on the nexus that dealt with some of the causes

I don't know if this is a dead thread, but this mod definitely worked as intended, but just as the author stated it removes eyebrows and other stuff, so how do I check what files or overlays could be causing the problem, because no other brown face mod I've seen even comes close to fixing this problem as this mod does. For my set up. What are the main mods that may cause this issue? I do have cbbe, but this issue happened even before I used that mod,
1st thing to check is if ure computer specs are good enough, i don't mean to run the game, I mean if u have 10 followers with u and all got 4k texture faces and face details u bet engine will struggle to load all that crap and black faces are results in games inability to even read all textures in time, if that is good next is....
Important thing to note is having 3+ followers teleporting with you to new areas puts game engine at HIGH stress, it can also cause black face bug,if u have even more followers its even worse for the engine lol,bug is usually gone after reloading save or exiting and entering game again altho your mileage my vary,there are also some mods here on the nexus that deal with fast travelling black face bug so check for those game is made for player+1 follower and eventually dogmeat so everything above that is stressful for a game,and depending on your PC specs can cause a havoc
2nd it can be caused by all face beautification mods and files, eyebrows, face paint, face textures, scars, blemishes, and similar face thingies, even sweat or oil effects,ideally u will want all your game faces + all beautification thingies for faces to be same resolution, even smaller resolution,u can resize in programs like photoshop yourself or download smaller files from authors alternative files
this file works as it block all face beautification things to be applied to faces,so if this file makes ure face clean and normal...100% its something that goes on the face that is the cause of ure problem :) u will need manually to browse thru youre folders with that and check resolutions or other odd stuff and delete or resize problematic dds files

idk if this is a stupid idea, but the blackface bug has always existed in bethesda games, and it makes me wonder if there just needs to be a refresh script for all NPC's and including the player, something that only refreshes the skin on the faces of each NPC and PC, whenever you go through a load screen or something, or maybe have it trigger as it starts raining or something, because it seems to happen the most when the game starts raining or maybe it's tied to weather changing because sometimes it just happens when there is no rain.
the only thing i do to stop this is i have to go into looksmenu and refresh my players face, and the same with any of my followers, i can't do anything with the other NPC's in the game though, which is why i feel like it needs to be some kind of refresh trigger to refresh the faces to keep the blackface bug from activating at random.
We are talking about 2 different reasons for a blackface bug you are talking about blackface caused by the game's inability to read textures in time after a loading screen, which is mostly caused by mods as they put the game under much more stress than normal, I personally never encountered a bug without any mods installed with a decent machine to run game on, for that script might work it might not as a lot of calculations need to be done, you need to let game recover after a loading screen or fast travel before you can trigger refresh
This mod deals with blackface that comes from texture mismatch, when textures are of different sizes it causes blackface and no amount of scripts or refreshes can fix that, only resizing or switching textures themself
the blackface bug never happened after loading screens, that was just a suggestion for when a script would refresh the faces i had, but if you say your mod handles this another way, then i guess idk.
you cant refresh wrong textures tho xD I mean game cant refresh or replace wrong dds files inside your folders, this file looks for that problem as it block everything that goes on a face, so you can see if its caused by inappropriate dds files
there is another black face bug that is caused by an overburdened game when after a fast travel or loading screen(in most cases but can happen anytime your game runs out of vram) faces get discolored as you run out of vram and game can't read textures properly, with this refreshing faces can help and there are mods on this site that do that already
If anybody is currently still having the tan face glitch with this mod I've finally fixed it. I downloaded Fallout 4 Texture Resizer https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/17624 and I launched it and selected the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Data\Textures\Actors\Character folder and In the optimizer I selected all 4096 and 2048 textures to be resized to 1024(respectively though resize them to whatever size your basefemalehead_d.dds is. I use Valkyr face but if you use 2k or 4k do this 2k faces resize 1024 and 4096 to 2048 4k faces resize 1024 and 2048 to 4096 It fixed the black face and should optimize characters from other mods as well. I'm currently testing LMCC and Deluxe makeup and optimizing those textures for 1024 as well to be compatible with the Valkyr face. I'm guessing this process should work with other face mods/presets as long as you optimize it for the size the original base face texture size as the tan face is caused by textures not properly applying to the face size due to incompatible differences. I really hope this helps other people. Heya. Also suffering from the brown face mod. I cannot find a character folder in my game. The directory steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Data\Textures\Actors\Character simply doesn't exist for me, there is no character folder in the actors folder. what do I do in that scenario?
sorry a bit late lmao xD character folder can be in BSA files if you dont have loose character folder some mod has A bsa file and inside could be a character folder that is conflicting with another BSA or something

It's a mashup of a couple of outfits that I can't all recall The top is from Combat Strippers - Raven (it is here on Nexus) The boots are from some outfit mod on Patreon but its name and author name escape me :/ pants I don't recall either but vtaw packs have great pants to match maybe it's from there xD

It works - yes. Insofar as I can use the vanila presets, of which most had the bug before. However - when go to SLM 14 and choose face, I only get the hair menu. Choice of style and color. No way of changing face color, skin smoothness etc. I've gotten rid of everything texture related. CBBE, Looksmenu, cleared out the texture folders - you name it. It is definitely an improvement. But is there anything I've overlooked in the description? Btw - my male character still has black face bug.

this file block overlays being applied to faces, ALL overlays, so there is no point in having those as you can't apply anything The game engine prevents me to filter stuff that gets applied, it's above my skill level unfortunately
something from "makeup" IS the problem then :) sadly game engine does not deal individually with those things rain effects/makeup/overlays of all kinds are applied the same way so there is no way to let something while blocking other its all or nothing situation that's why this is great ONLY for figuring out if it overlays/makeup that causes you problems, to fix it you will have to find files yourself
