This guide is intended to help Mod Authors permanently remove "fog" from their mods.
If you are a Modder / Player seeking to remove fog from your game I suggest using Fog Remover - Performance Enhancer II to remove interior fog, mist, steam, dust and more while giving you a nice boost in FPS.
You can also remove "all" fog, interior and exterior, the mod-less way by using a console command: setfog 1 999999 (must be entered each time you restart the game) or by using a Fallout4Custom.ini like these: Useful Combinations - Fallout4Custom.ini.

What's the difference between fog & mist?
    Spoiler:
    Show

    In the default game:
Exterior fog is created & controlled by the weather files using a combination of lighting and GodRays.
Interior fog is created & controlled by the cells "Lighting" data and/or by the games "Lighting Templates".
Removing interior fog does not improve the games performance, but it does improve it's appearance.
Removing interior fog does not effect the cells Previs/Precombine data.

Mist, Steam, Dust, Smoke and Airborne Leaves & Debris are referred to in the CK as "Moveable Statics", these are animated mesh files (.nif's).
These "Moveable Statics" reduce both interior and exterior performance.
"Moveable Statics" are not included in Previs/Precombine data so they can safely be disabled or replaced.

This sounds cool. I'll have to take the time to play with it. My current rig is a little old and interior fog is frustrating for me. Either it looks bad or in some specific instances it causes extreme FPS drops.

      Balx2,
You sound like you are in need of a mod not a tutorial.
I think I have something that may be a lot more useful to you here: Fog Remover - Performance Enhancer II
And check my profile if you'd like to have some nice weather in you game :)

Thanks, I'll take a look at that at some point in time but I'm not really interested in another mod so much as I wanted to say thanks for clearly pointing out what you changed for fog. It has been on my todo list for some time but was a rather low priority as I had other projects I work on nearly full time.
I've looked at a few other fog removers in the past but the author made dirty edits, broke cells, made a ENB preset which only worked for NVIDIA GPU... you see where this is going.
It's nice when someone takes the time to say "I did A, B and C and got D. Now you try it."

    Hello Glass1411

    Thank you for this tutorial.
Am I right to guess, this same procedure is in essence true on how to remove fog of Skyrim cells too?
For me it’s so much not about performance, but more of Bethesda uses fog too much as a cheap excuse for lazy world building and cheap (&imho ugly) effect gain.

Spawnkiller I honestly don't know if this applies to Skryim or not. I don't own Skyrim so I have no way of testing this. If you try this please come back and let us know if this does indeed work.
      Thanks Man

      Hello Glass1411

I will try your method and let you know of my results.
But it will take some time, as right now I have very limited time to mod games.

I'll test it out when I have a chance. Was trying it myself via the Basement Living but couldn't get it to work for the Supply Warehouse item. I asked on that mod's forum, but the author did warn us he has a lot of mods and doesn't have the chance to monitor all his mods so an answer may not come quickly or at all. Your instructions did mention something I never changed while trying to fix it: The Inherits flags.

Hoping this will work and if it does I'll change it for all the Basement Living items.

I like that mod Basement Living! And yes these steps will remove the "Fog" from any interior cell in the game. I have already done this making Fog Remover II. I use the Rexford Hotel as the example because it's one of the only two interior cells in the game that require all 3 sets of edits.
And basically all you are doing is disconnecting the cell's "fog" from the "Lighting Template" and using the cells "Fog Far" setting to push it out of the viewable area.
I have a standalone mod that removes fog from all interiors and may well remove the fog from the Basement Living mod without any edits needed. You may find this helpful: Fog Remover II - Interior Fog Remover.
