Q: Do I need to use the HUD Framework DEF UI compatibility Patch? A: No the file that comes with this already makes the two mods work together.
Q: I installed this but I'm not getting all the fancy icons on weapons and apparel? A: Weapons and apparel use a dynamic naming system. To change the items names on pre-existing items after installing this you need to force the items name to reset. To do so drop them and pick them back up, this works most of the time but not always. You can also take the item to a weapon/armor bench and mod it, that resets the name 100% of the time. Keep in mind you will still encounter some npcs dropping items with the old naming from before you installed this. That is because the npcs you encountered were created by the game from before you installed this and they've just been sitting waiting patiently in your save for you to come kill them.
Q: I picked up a legendary or examined an item and my game crashed. A: The vanilla game's limits on available scaleform memory for UI elements are not really adequate, and while this mod is stable on it's own, in combination with additional mods making demands on the limited scaleform memory, there are certain actions can can tend to push the engine past it's breaking point. The excellent mod Buffout 4 increases the available scaleform memory pool which can alleviate possible instability issues. As a bonus it also has a crash log which can help user identify the cause of their crashes. This mod should be in everyone's mod build.
Q: Are older VIS patches still compatible? A: Some more than others. VIS-G has more categories than VIS so some stuff will need a new tag to be in the ideal category, but VIS-G still has all the old categories so you shouldn't see missing icons on items. Patches for guns will need updated because the icons and part of the naming is controlled by new gun class keywords, and the old caliber keywords just control the ammo suffix tag now.
Q: Can I get a list of non armor/weapon tags used by VIS-G for making patches? A: Here you go

Q: I'm wondering if I installed this and DEF UI correctly? A: Check to see if you have all the following files after installing. If you do you should be good.
Yes. NG isn't actually different than the older version of the game. NG just gives you an assortment of paid mods for free, so you'll need to find patches for those or they will be vanilla.
I don't like asking this, I imagine it's very annoying, but after the next gen update, all ui mods on xbox are janked, so I have to ask...
Any way to port this to console? I don't have the means to do so myself so I'm stuck begging like a hobo ):
The one on xbox is super outdated too (I think. I could be totally wrong). In fact so are the def_ui mods. Noone seems to be making their own versions tho... at least not comparatively good ones. Most mods have a least a couple duplicates by other people for some reason.
That's because there is a quest giver NPC that buys them, making them much more valuable for that purpose than for scrapping to get steel which is super abundant.
Is that why?!? I've been wondering for AGES why that stuff wasn't 'junk'. I have to say though, that in Survival where your carry weight is so limited, it's just not worth schlepping that stuff to Vault 81... weight-wise, it's less money than purified water, and in my experience he just disappears never to be seen again, making the whole thing moot. Is there any way to change this stuff back to junk? At least, for me, the crafting materials are more valuable, especially in the early game.
Thank you again for this mod, I've been using it for years and I can't see myself playing without it!
You probably would have done it if it needed to be done, but does this need to be updated given all the changes? I only ask because I noticed that Sim Settlements has a patch but Sim Settlements 2 does not. I am sure you have your reasons, just wanted to ask.
No update needed for the NG game version. Nothing changed in the Fallout4.esm requiring one. CC mods that now come bundled free haven't been patched yet though, so they won't be affected by this mod.
okay, thank you kindly for your response. This would be that SS2 would be problem free. I have never played the first one, so I do not really know which items it contained. Regardless, thank you very much for your hard work, your many contributions to the community, and for your response. Have a great day.
I haven't made a patch for Sim Settlements 2, but I have been using it in my London playthrough and it seems like a some of the items it adds, like config holotapes have options to craft that come with the sorting prefix on it already.
Okay, thank you. I use the LOST patch as well that combines your mod, AWKCR, and armorsmith with many different mods, so perhaps this is included. I don't precisely know what is all added by SS2, given its size and even dedicated mod category on Nexus, but maybe does the same thing. As I mentioned, you would know best as not only are you a modder as I am not, but also the author of this mod. Also, thank you for this mod and for your responses.
Are vanilla armors supposed to be sorted as well? I only have AWKCR and Armorsmith Extended overwriting the Drifter Outfit in Fo4Edit but it, and along with several vanilla items, are not getting sorted. Any Ideas?
Did you have those items before installing this? Pre-existing Armor/weapon names aren't changed just by installing. You need to mod them at a bench or drop & pickup to reset their dynamic naming.
Edit: I tried drop and pick up, but still nothing. Also when I click on the items using the console they start at "ff" i.e. ff00736, is that normal? Or is something overwriting them? These are vanilla items, btw. Like Drifter Outfit and 111 Vaultsuit on a new save.
only my aid items actually sorted when i installed the mod but nothing else was effected. resinstalled countless times and did research for hours the issue is more extensive and ive followed all the steps please help gambit
It's probably a load order issue, that can be resolved by moving VIS-G lower. Also weapons and armor aren't instantly changed. Any the game has already created will retain their old name until you drop/pickup (usually works) or modify them at a armor/weapon bench. Also already created unique legendary names are burned in permamently.
thank u for replying! i started new, fresh game entirely and the items come up in my pip boy but controls dont work (getting out of the sub menus) also in containers its vanilla. im not sure what to do. i deleted the mod and def ui to try and reinstall them but it made the (4fg) tags come up so im gonna reinstall again and start fresh again
I was surpised to hear that so I checked, and there was 32 ITMs, looks like the got left in from back when I had stripped out the featuredItem keywords because the popup was causing CTDs sometimes. That said, yeah it's safe to clean. They aren't intentional.
Hi! I guess that this issue has been discused early on other posts, but once I uninstalled the mod (and also def_hud, due to compatibility problems, not that I dont like both of these mods!) items appear with its category in brackets, like "[scrap] Duct Tape", I do gotta say that my game's in spanish, could that be an issue?
You still have another plugin adding that tag to the names, as those names are not generated dynamically like weapons/apparel, so their names are changed instantly when installing a mod that edits their names.
Interesting question, but I didn't realize until recently that Vis and Vis-G were in fact different (my bad), so would I have to remove the old VIS before installing VIS-G or would I be able to run both without conflict? I realize the latter is superior and may be redundant to have both but just had to be sure before I broke anything
