I'd leave it at common things besides Pre War money like cigarrets/cigarette packs/cigars, some unique named items/holotags and some real valuable items like silver and golden things of course.
But baseballs, pencils or especially toys like the rocketship for example giving really valluable scrap items like aluminum or lead which is even without mods mostly used for half of the weapon or armor upgrades, or other use (baseball grenade for example). I also dunno why the undamaged objects shall be high vallue items like an untarnished tin can or metal bucket? It's still steel which is equally valluable for scraping.
I must advise caution when using this mod. Unless you share the authors assessment which items are junk and which items are not (this is not customisable unfortunately) you end up with a lot of items (like wrenches and other tools) that are not scrappable in workshop mode. Instead you have to store them using TAB. Furthermore, the "store all junk" option when interacting with the workshop does NOT store these items automatically. Instead you need to move all those items MANUALLY, which is time consuming.
All that wouldn't be much of a problem if you could simply uninstall the mod and be back to vanilla settings. Unfortunately (and I don't really know how that's even possible) the settings that this mod introduces to your game are PERSISTENT. I have tried everything short of a fresh re-install of the entire game to get rid of it. No success. Will try a fresh re-install tomorrow and hope this works.
The settings chosen by the mod author are IMO very subjective and some customisation options would have been warranted. Not recommended.
I agree with your assessment that this seems over developed, the scope should have been pre-war money, Unique name items, Unique items only obtainable via quest or one of a kind items. Teddy Bears, wooden blocks, toy cars, pencils, those all re-spawn on cell resets, and are very common and useful from a crafting/building standpoint. This should have been a much shorter list of items. Maybe a separate download that only includes the following: Pre-War Money (The item that started the mod!) Wooden Solider Toy Gilded Grasshopper Derby-Winning Toy Car Championship Bowling Pin Championship Bowling Ball Reporter's Camera Reporter's Pen Reporter's Pencil Anchorage Veteran's Flag Charge Card - questionable The Holotags needed to be given to Paladin Brandis or Captain Kells should be protected, or from any NAMED BOS character. For example: Knight Verham's Holotag Scribe Faris' Holotag Paladin Brandis' Holotag Knight Rylan's Holotag Danse's Holotags The generic Holotags should be excluded. If you know you way around xedit, you could in theory open the mod and remove the items from the listing that you feel should not be included. I do think a mod like this is need, or at least be customizable.
Some vending machines require pre-war money. There's a working Nuka-Cola machine in The Oberland Station Basement Player Home, for one, and I really like the look & feel of that mod.
Is it possible to still scrap these items if you really need to? e.g. drop it on the ground and scrap manually like settlement objects. I only ask because I like to save the watches and lockets, but gold and silver are hard to find outside them and very necessary for energy weapon mods.
Doesn't work for me. It really annoys me that I cant scrap common toys anymore even when i drop them and press scrap. I think its a great feature to protect rare and unique toys but toy aliens and rockets are a great source for aluminum and toy cars for screws. I still collect them out of habit but they are useless now.
Great and helpful little mod, you decide what to keep and what you feel is junk. kudos to burtron:) I reinstall it a few times to change what I wanted and had no problems in updating my needs. Simple mod without a long list.
