good mod! would endorse if i could, i just needed to tweak some settings on my end though because i found that it also affected 1st person looting, it made looting in first person so far like it's telekinesis
here's the tweak i made
fActivatePickLength=180 (since it's the same as vanilla that can be just deleted) fActivatePickRadius=24.0000 (lowered this a bit because it made looting in first person a bit harder when there's 2 or more stuff near each other) f3rdPersonCameraPickBoost=120.0000 (i boosted this instead, first i used 180 but found that it was a bit too far for my liking) f3rdPersonCameraBoneHeightMult=6.0000 bUseFuzzyPicking=1
it doesn't affect 1st person looting distance anymore but boosted 3rd person looting distance compared to vanilla
dude how is this not in the top files? i can now actually loot in third person without forcing my self to go in first person just to pick things up xD thanks
Never edit the Fallout4.ini file!!! Use Fallout4Custom.ini for custom editing, that is what that .ini file is there for. Some things can be edited in the Fallout4Prefs.ini, but anything related to the Fallout4.ini, should be edited/added in Fallout4Custom.ini.
In case the settings from this mod is not enough, you can also add this line under [Camera] in Fallout4Custom.ini: fPitchZoomOutMaxDist=0.0000
It makes the camera stay at the same distance to the player, when looking down in 3rd person, instead of zooming out, which causes the range you can loot, to also move back.
You are the first and only individual to state "Never edit the Fallout4.ini file!!!" since the launch of the game. Please explain why and the effects of doing so; and provide proof. For my knowledge and others. Thanks
Sorry for replying to an old post, but it's "recommended" to not alter the Fallout4.ini because you can do so in the Fallout4Custom.ini. It just overwrites any settings in the default configuration settings without altering the default one. This means problems like typos, adding/deleting things by mistake, etc. are easier to find, easier tracking of anything you added or overwrote, you don't have to backup the Fallout4.ini because you easily revert the changes by deleting/commenting any or all settings within the Fallout4Custom.ini, which will let the settings revert back to their original values because you didn't alter the original, and you don't have to worry about mostly anything (game, launcher,) overwriting the Fallout4Custom.ini since it's user created. Makes tweaking easier but you have to make sure that when creating the Fallout4Custom, it has to be in .ini format, not .txt. You can do so by copy and pasting the Fallout4.ini, renaming it to Fallout4Custom and deleting everything in it and add as you please.
Link: https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Skyrim_Configuration_Settings It's for Skyrim, but the same rules stated there applies for Fallout 4. I even tried it out in Fallout 76, and it works. You can try it out as well since it's safe.
I wish the same can be said for the Fallout4Prefs, that one has to be backed-up since altering it directly is the only way of tweaking it.
Maybe for users who have experience editing ini files, yes. For the average modder editing config files is extremely difficult. Most don't even know you can CTRL + F to search text documents.
For anyone reading this, always put any edits to the .ini files inside of Fallout4Custom.ini as it A) allows you to put in changes without changing the core game files and B) Lets you easily keep track of the changes you've made. Also, changes made to Fallout4Custom.ini effects both Fallout4.ini and Fallout4prefs.ini, so just put all your ini changes in Custom.
Unfortunately it sounds like you inadvertently altered some value not associated with this tweak. I've yet to hear this error from hundreds of others who have used this tweak. Hopefully you made a backup of your Fallout4.ini.

(EDIT)
ah, I think I got it. just adding the lines by yourself seems to solve the problem, according to others in this thread. thanks for this!
