In that case, do you have any resources that would be useful for someone trying to backport it? I've been meaning to learn how to make mods, so if you have any wisdom to impart, that would be appreciated
Well, you'll need the New Vegas Creation Kit, and a 3d modeling program that has a NIF plugin. The NIF format is different between New Vegas and Fallout 4, as well as the weapon orientations, so you'd need the 3d modeling program to import the Fallout 4 NIF and reposition it for New Vegas. You'll also need Nifskope to open the NIF models. The Creation Kit is needed for actually building the ESP plugin. The textures might also have to be re-saved since I think I used BC7 compression for the diffuse maps, and New Vegas doesn't support that compression method, so you'd need Photoshop or GIMP in order to do that.
It’s broken on Xbox the bolts fire from nothing the gun is invisible which would be great if this were a force lightning mod but no u can fire it still and comes from all over plz reupload previous version to Xbox
I would think things are fine since this is currently the only report of such an issue. It may just be the download failed due to a server problem or connection hiccup, so I'd suggest redownloading the mod, maybe reinstalling if need be and seeing if that helps any.
Hhh, I'm not sure what else could be wrong. I don't think anything is wrong with the mod itself, I had completely repacked the archives when I uploaded the most recent version due to having missed an important texture in the update before it, and I seem to recall seeing somewhere that using existing archives can sometimes cork things up, though I can't speak for how much merit that has. My best guess is either something's wrong on a server front, or it's the game itself losing its marbles, apparently the invisible gun thing can happen to vanilla weapons, one thing I saw suggested going out into 3rd person then switch back to 1st.
'Kay, well, it's possible I had done some changes to the object template after having revised the gun's model, I know sometimes the act of doing so can result in the gun in question turning invisible. Maybe try modifying it at a workbench, that may hopefully get it to straighten out, especially if somehow it doesn't have a receiver assigned, so I'd check that section first.
EDIT: Ok, yeah, I had done a notable change regarding how the receivers are handled, the invisible gun is because it's still using the old standard receiver, which has now been removed, anyone having this issue needs to take the Bryar to a weapon bench and change the receiver to the No Module one, or one of the receiver upgrades.
I don't think so because the pistol uses the Alien Blaster animations. What would be nice is if I could use the pipe rifle grip animations, and call to the Alien Blaster or Assault Rifle reload animations separately, but to my knowledge I can't.
I've been working on guns, most recent one I let out was the Bergmann 1896. I did do an update for the lightsaber mod but its main focus was getting Visible Weapons functionality in place, I'm thinking the following update will have the Darksaber alongside some new hilts. Until then the next standalone mod is likely gonna be the DL-44.
Pretty much every film made after return of the Jedi may as well have been in another universe, they changed the lore and the story around way too much and the atmosphere and enigma of the original trinity was pretty much lost in these 'revisions', oddly the game's made before the prequel trilogy were far more lore friendly and respectful of the star wars universe even than Lucas later trilogy itself was (a good trilogy in it's own right though if you could stomach Youngling's and Jar Jar bink's that is - once you realize Jar Jar is probably a sith lord he becomes a hell of a lot more palatable) and then they went and sold it to Disney which of course meant quick turnaround film production, no genuine commitment to respecting the original star wars universe and profit not storytelling being there primary goal (Still also good in there own right but not for purists).
The original episode IV was a work of passion and it remains one of the very best science fiction movies of all time even today, episode V despite most people preferring it was actually too narrow in scope with far smaller imaginary vistas then those opened up on episode IV and by the time of the third movie Episode VI the merchandising had become as important as the movie so of course they had to ruin the plot by making TEDDY BEARS into rebel allied tribal being's and the scourge of the Ewok was born.
The beauty of the star wars universe though is it is broad enough in scope to absorb this and even when the likes of LATER Lucas and now Disney are trashing it we still have the Old Rebublic to hope that one day someone will make a worthy star wars movie for the grown up's.
The Bryar Pistol is not only a star wars inspired weapon though but actually one of the most important game prop's in the development of first person shooters, I am actually old enough to remember when DARK FORCES looked good - honestly it actually did back then. https://youtu.be/WDbYrcGHmog
And, so grateful to DMagnus for all the fun and creative works he has shared with the community. In fact, he likely poped my kudos giving cherry long ago with his lightsaber.
Because, even though it's nostalgic for me and I'd probably download it just for that sake, the mod is subpar. The model work is great, but the mod could use some more work.
I feel its current size is reasonably accurate, the Bryar isn't all that small after all, and due to its grip design making it smaller might also make it look a bit off in the hand. Apart from that, what else do you think would improve it?
I noticed on the description you wanted to make it charge a shot but werent sure how yet, maybe you could retexture a gauss rifle with the bryar pistol?
I had actually attempted making a charge-shot module for the Bryar when I was making it, but I ran into issues. The biggest one is that the Alien Blaster animations, at least, don't seem to support a charge shot like how the Gauss Rifle does. When you hit the fire button, in first person your character lowers the gun off to the side, and then it snaps back up when you let go to fire the shot. As it is, to make the Bryar charge-fire like it does in Jedi Outcast is gonna require a different approach.

Why? Just well articulated.
BTY, your Binary Named Presets is great.

I, for one, wish the weapon was smaller :(
