Fallout 4

Q: Can I play Outcasts & Remnants if I haven't played Fusion City Rising or Project Valkyrie or Depravity?

A: Yes.  The mods complement each other.  Play in whatever order you want. There's a guide here if it helps.

Q: Load Order?

A: These can go high up in your load order. Most people order it (top to bottom) AAFusionCityRising.esp, OutcastsAndRemnants.esp, ProjectValkyrie.esp, then Depravity.esp. ProjectValkyrie.esp needs to be below OutcastsAndRemnants.esp in load order since OAR is a master to PV. The others are flexible.

If running v1.2 or higher, for load order considerations with respect to mods overhauling the Prydwen or Institute, please see Known Issues for details.

Q: Are the player and all NPC's in the mod voiced?

A: Yes.

Q: Does this mod include any new weapons?

A: Yes.

Q: Is there a minimum level my character needs to be at before playing this mod?

A: Technically no. The enemies in the mod are leveled. Below level 20 they match the player. If you're looking for a rule of thumb, probably level 15 is a good point to start the main quest, although you can do most all the pimp-related quests (Club Snuggle) starting at level 1. Project Valkyrie and Depravity are also fine to start at level 1. In Fusion City Rising it helps to be higher level.

Q: Does this take place in the Commonwealth, or a brand-new world space?

A: In the commonwealth and in new indoor spaces accessible from the Commonwealth.

Q: I want to join the Enclave, not fight them.

A: Several mods currently let you do that like America Rising and Enclave Resurgent. Fighting the Enclave in this mod won't turn the Enclave against you in the other mods, and you can play all the mods in the same game without the stories conflicting.

Q: But I love the Enclave. You should redo the mod to join the Enclave.

A: The east coast Enclave were largely wiped out in Fallout 3 and the related DLC.  In the Far Harbor DLC for Fallout 4, Grand Zealot Brian Richter, a former Enclave solider, says regarding the Enclave, "They were a force to be reckoned with in their day, but now... it's been a long time since then."

Officially, to the extent the Enclave has a presence in the Commonwealth, they're keeping below the radar, which is how OAR treats them.  If OAR were to let you join the Enclave, it would cause a lore-break as to why a certain other vanilla faction remains hostile to the player after joining the Enclave.

Q: Lore friendly?

A: Here ya go.

Q: Can I use CBBE, Jane Bod, Atomic Beauty, Wonder Body, etc. with this?

A. A few NPC's in this mod use outfits that are CBBE based, and without CBBE, textures might look weird on them, but there are hundreds of NPC's in this mod, so it shouldn't materially affect your overall enjoyment.

If you don't like the body variations CBBE offers, you can install the CBBE Vanilla Nevernude body, and that will give you basically the same body as vanilla, but with access to more outfits, since most outfit mods are CBBE based.

If you have a strong preference for one body type over another, that's cool.  No need to leave a comment.  Everyone has their own taste.  As mod makers all we can do is try to make custom outfits compatible for the maximum number of users.

Q: Can you make the outfits craftable, repairable, bodyslide compatible?

A: No. The mod authors who were kind enough to allow use of their clothing/armor assets in this mod worked hard on what they created. A list of all the outfits, with links to the mod pages, is in the credits at the bottom of the main mod page. If you like an outfit, please visit the original mod author's page, and download their file to get the full functionality.

Q: Can I use x, y, or z skin texture with this mod?

A: Sure.

Q: Can you include x, y, or z DLC asset (e.g. weight benches) in this mod?

A: No.  The goal is make this mod accessible to as many PC users as possible using vanilla assets + assets other modders generously allow to be included.

Q: Why is there not a .ba2 version for install?

A: Mainly to provide flexibility, avoid issues for users who won't read anything on the mod page, to let everyone else easily see and make their own decisions about any file conflicts or customization they prefer, and to ensure compatibility with later mods. Many of the authors who gave permission for their assets to be used in OAR had left modding by the time Project Valkyrie and Depravity released, so new permissions could not be obtained, and we rely on OAR for those assets. Unless you archive all these mods correctly, it can cause certain mod functions to break and the later mods (PV/Depravity) not being able to access the asset files from OAR.

If you want to pack the mod into a .ba2 on your own, instructions here. You'll get an error message with the DA Christie Harness outfit saying its textures contain features not supported by this archive. You can skip those files and keep them as loose files, then pack the rest. Or, there are three normal maps in the DA Christie outfit that cause the error. Open them in GIMP, export them as ATI2, which is the default normal map format for FO4. Then the archive should pack properly (thanks FreezLock for the solution!).

Same deal with Fusion City Rising if you try to archive that.  Keep in mind we don't support an archived version. If something breaks with the archive version you create, like the music in Club Fusion stops working or meshes/textures stop showing up, you're on your own.  The mod is released with loose files rather than archives for a reason.

If you would like more information about archive vs. loose files, there's a good overview here, and if you would like to debate the issue you can do that here, but please not on this mod page.  There are pros and cons to either method.  This mod page isn't a forum to rehash those all over again.  Ba2 comments will typically be deleted to avoid starting a flame war.

Q: Will you make a compatibility patch for <insert name of overhaul mod that is incompatible with every single mod in existence>?"

A: See Known Issues for any compatibility issues.

Q: Will this mod work with <insert name of obscure mod that almost no one plays>?

A: There's a secret compatibility database here and here.

Q: Will this mod work with my mod list? <proceeds to list all 236 mods they are running>

A: Compatible with everything unless explicitly stated otherwise.

Q: I'm having trouble installing the mod with a particular outdated mod manager.

A: Google is your friend. GitHub and NMM forums too. If using NMM, get the latest version off GitHub.

Q: Can you make a special version of the mod just for me because I want features X and Y, but not Z.

A: Here you go.

Q: My computer is below the minimum specs to run Fallout 4. How do I run the mod?

A: Purchase a computer that meets at least the minimum specs, and preferably the recommended specs, to run Fallout 4. Hardware costs for the recommended gear have declined significantly in the years since Fallout 4 was released. The battles in this mod have more enemies than vanilla, requiring more resources than vanilla for those battles. If you are looking for settings to increase frame rates and reduce load times on a weak rig, there are plenty of forums covering that, which you can search for on Google.

Q: Nobody watches my YouTube channel and I can't get published anywhere so here's my 950-word review of your mod full of rambling inaccuracies because I didn't explore the mod or read the mod page.

A: Thank you for sharing. Also, learn to code.

Q: X, Y, or Z is not "immersive".

A: Read the terminals and talk to the NPC's.  If you can't/won't read, that's okay, but certain story elements might not make complete sense.

Q: A character in the mod said something I disagree with. Can I assume this NPC's opinion 100% matches the personal opinions of the mod authors?

A: That's not how fictional characters work.

Q: I think I found a political reference that offends me. Let's discuss politics in the comments section.

A: Let's not.

Q: Will this mod be available on Xbox, Playstation, or Nintendo?

A: No. Reasons covered here.

Q: I'm not here to download the mod, and I don't have a question, but here's my random sh*tpost.

A: Reddit FalloutMods is here.

Q: I heard this mod has a quest where you can kill Nazis. But I support Nazis. Where can I post a racist or anti-Semitic remark?

A: It's frowned upon on Nexus, and has also already been done several times, so no points awarded for originality. But Reddit may be a viable option.

If you enjoy throwing shade at mod authors on Reddit like, "It's a shame Hitler wasn't more successful in gassing the (Jewish slur starting with K)'s so I wouldn't have to deal with you", the moderators at Reddit FalloutMods have confirmed in writing their willingness to have you as an active participant in their community.

If Reddit doesn't satisfy your racist, trollish, or anti-Semitic needs, you could also visit a forum for one of the White Nationalist organizations catalogued on Wikipedia.

Q: What's with all the passive-aggressiveness on these last few Q&A entries?

A: These are actual questions and comments we've received multiple times.
