I announced this on my New Vegas mods, might as well do it here.

See, thing is, Fallout 4 is popular. Before it was some kind of niche thing for a select group of players who played games according to their preference as individuals. Now, a lot of people play Fallout 4 because it's "cool" or the "latest thing."

And, turns out, those people are insufferable. So, right now, I'm going back to New Vegas until Ubisoft churns out something else to grab these people's attention spans, and the nice, regular community remains.

Because these people don't really get modding. Or how to criticise mods. Idea is, you get a mod, you play it, you like the idea of the mod, but you feel it can improve somehow.

So you tell me, the author, about how to improve it, and if I can do it; Then I totally will. That's how it's been for years.

Now I keep getting these people who don't even like the idea of my mods, and insist on telling me I should turn my mod into something entirely different from what it is, and when I tell them I'm not interested in that, then, suddenly, "I can't handle criticism."

Because I won't accept their thinly veiled and usually condescending completely new mod request.

So, yeah. I'll see you lot when things cool down here a bit, and if you're new: Then by all means, none of this is necessarily directed at you. I think new people are great. That's not the problem here.

Unless you're the sort of person who buys a new iPhone, even though you already have a perfectly functional smartphone, simply because it's the "latest thing" then, ignore what I have to say. By all means. Welcome to the Nexus.

Also, in New Vegas, people didn't send me personal threats and harassed me using the PM system. That's never happened before except for at the Fallout 4 Nexus.

And I won't put up with that. I'm not paid to mod. Why would I mod for people who treat me like garbage?

So, yeah, see you soon.

Hopefully...

And PS:

Stop calling me entitled simply because I don't want people sending me threatening and abusive messages through the personal messaging system when I release new mods. The entitled thing to do is to harass people because you don't like their mods and wish to varnish them out of existence to accommodate your delicate sensibilities. You can simply ignore them like any other human being would, and thus create a universe where more than one type of person can live.

Downloaded this mod a few months ago and checked to see if there was an update. I finished reading your post and just wanted to show you my support. I thought this was a fantastic mod that added a lot of lore-friendly character to the game. Thanks for your hard work!

Like Everflow I would consider myself one of the "silent" ones, having rarely commented on anything since 2006. I do, however, feel the need to speak & show my support for upstanding modders like you Thumblesteen. When outrageous & childish behavior forces you from your community it is a sad day indeed. Their response to not enjoying one of your mods is clearly that of a sociopath. I do hope you return soon if you haven't already.

This post makes me really sad...

I think, this is my first Post since I registered in... I don't know 2008? 2010? (EDIT: I checked, since February 2007) And I just want to take this opportunity and thank ALL modders for their great work!!!

I am one of those "silent" ones. I have an account for many years now and have never complained about anything. I see a mod as something that someone changed in the game and is generous enough to share it with others. And I think other people should just appreciate that. If a mod leaves me unsatisfied, I simply don't use it.

In my world, you guys are HEROES!!!
Thank you all, for all the hard work and dedication!!!

I believe the word the kids use these days is "lurker". It's not derogatory or anything, by the way.

Thanks for the support. If you're ever doing comments again sometime in 2022 or whatever, just remember you were off to a great start. Really brought a smile on my face.

If someone'sending you threats through the PM system - you really should be letting the staff know about that so we can "resolve" the situation.

There's a high chance it's not just you they do this to, and I'd rather stamp out something like this and save people the hassle of trying to put up with such nonsense bythemselves.

I have reported it to the moderators, and you did a fantastic job responding quickly and banning them. You couldn't have done a better job, truly. But, even so, they keep sending these messages. Maybe it's because the bans occur in private and not public that they think they can get away with it, I don't know.

I've been dinking around on the Nexus since Fallout 3, never made a mod myself, attempted, but gave up rather quick. xD One of these days.. Sadly though, with the console community starting to see the 'fun with mods' side of Bethesda games, we're going to get to 'enjoy' the a-holes like these more often. It's not easy, but it'll end up being something we'll learn to ignore, since the modding community itself is awesome. The players who've played mods for years that get it, the modders who bring us the (free) epic content. These console and new players that are in the a-hole category need to get it in their head that, the mod is not THEIRS. It's the creators, and the creator is creating something ideal to them, something THEY'D like to see in their game, and SHARING it with us, the community. You're not making something to please some uptight little rich kid who seems to think the mods are being paid for out of his mama's wallet. Lol. I wish ya luck man, and hope to see you back sooner than later.

Thank you for all the hard work you put in. It is totally understandable that you don't want to deal with shitty people when you are doing a hobby you enjoy. A bigger modding community should benefit the hobby, not ruin it. Hope to have you back working on fallout 4 as soon as the community is able to purge these hoopleheads.

Personally I think that it should be the ignorant entitled assholes who should be leaving Nexus, not mod authors who pour hundreds/thousands of hours into crafting new content for F4 for free. A shame that your leaving, as it's thanks to people like you that I decided to start making mods myself. If you feel it's the only option open to you, then I hope your journey leads you back here in the future, invigorated and renewed.

Don't blame you one bit. While I'm only a novice modder, I've noticed the same deluge of ignorant a-holes with FO4. Not only on the Nexus but the Wiki as well. It is getting frustrating to the point where I'm about ready to say F U and stop supporting this game until all the immature kiddies get bored with it and go back to Halo or whatever the teens are playing these days.

I'm so sorry my man, I have had the same thing happen to me through PM's, its just not on. I completely understand this decision. Stay safe out there!
