Q: Can I play Project Valkyrie and/or Outcasts & Remnants if I haven't played Fusion City Rising?

A: Yes.  The mods complement each other.  You can play any of them first, or all three at the same time.  Outcasts & Remnants must be installed for Project Valkyrie to work.

Fusion City Rising is not required.  If you don't install it, you'll notice certain terminals and characters in OAR and PV make reference to Fusion City, and when you meet certain characters you may have encountered in FCR, they'll say something like "have we met?", to which you can respond affirmatively or not.

You can start Project Valkyrie any time after visiting Sanctuary Hills for the first time.

The mod works on a new or existing save game, regardless of what point in the game you're at or which factions you've sided with. However, if you want to play 100% of the content, the Prydwen and Institute will need to be intact.  If both the Prydwen and Institute are ashes, two of the main quests will be an hour shorter.

Q: Is there a minimum level my character needs to be at before playing this mod?

A: No.

Q: Are there new weapons, armor, perks, etc?

A: Yes, there's a gun to teleport people you don't like to prison, grenades to spawn temporary battle companions (deathclaws, pimps, synths, and Brotherhood), custom weapons, new outfits, etc.  Most of these are available as quest rewards as you progress through the story.  Owen, Sarah, Valkyrie, and Fiona all have achievable companion perks.

Q: Compatibility?

A: Works with everything unless explicitly stated otherwise.  See Known Issues for details. You can play regardless of what point your existing save game is at or which factions you've sided with.

The mod has a light footprint. The only vanilla records edited are: 1) Liberty Prime Race, 2) a bug in vanilla MQ207 is fixed in the initial conversation with Shaun and Father, 3) The BoS generic hellos are adjusted after the "Wag the Dog" quest to remove the bigotry, Institute hate, and Maxson worship.

And yes, compatible with Horizon and Extended Dialogue Interface, although the dialogue will feel significantly more immersive if you're using Full Dialogue Interface, or no dialogue interface mod, rather than Extended Dialogue Interface.

If using Phase 4 - An Institute Expansion, all the features in that mod are accessible via the memory pod in the upstairs workshop of the Director's Retreat in the reformed Institute. The Director's Retreat is accessible via the same floor as the Director's Quarters (via the room where you meet Synth Nora).

Q: Load Order?

A: Ideally, use LOOT to sort load order for you. If sorting manually, ProjectValkyrie.esp, OutcastsAndRemnants.esp, and AAFusionCityRising.esp can go relatively high up in your load order, as they don't touch many vanilla records.  ProjectValkyrie.esp needs to be below OutcastsAndRemnants.esp in load order since OAR is a master to PV.

For load order considerations with respect to mods overhauling the Prydwen or Institute, please see Known Issues for details.

Q: Lore friendly?

A: Here ya go.

Q: Battle difficulty?

A: Tougher than vanilla. Strategy typically required or you will die more than usual. Save your game often.

- If you use weapon or armor mods that affect leveled lists, the enemies you face in this mod will often be wielding those weapons and armor.
- If you use overhauls that make Raiders, Super Mutants, or Ghouls tougher, they'll be tougher in this mod too.
- If you use damage modifier mods, those settings will carry over into this mod.

If the battles feel too tough, options include 1) See above, 2) Adjust your in-game difficulty settings, 3) Get better at not dying.

Q: Tell me more about alternate endings and how this works with the vanilla main quest.

A: See here.

Q: Are the player and all NPC's in the mod voiced?

A: Yes.

Q: Does this take place in the Commonwealth, or a brand-new world space?

A: In the commonwealth and in new indoor spaces accessible from the Commonwealth.

Q: Will this work in VR?

A: Project Valkyrie, Fusion City Rising, and Outcasts & Remnants weren't designed with VR in mind, but I've been told they work, provided you either have loose files enabled or have archived the files. There is no official support for VR.

Q: Why is the Project Valkyrie file size so small compared to Outcasts & Remnants and Fusion City Rising?

A: As a master file to Project Valkyrie, Outcasts & Remnants contains most of the asset files (e.g. textures) that take up significant space.

Q: Will there be a .ba2 archive version of the mod?

A: No, it creates too many potential user issues, conflicts, customization hurdles, and complaints, but you're welcome to archive the mod yourself. There are tutorials online, for example here. The Outcasts and Remnants Q&A Article also has instructions on how to do it.

Q: Can you make the outfits craftable, repairable, bodyslide compatible?

A: No. The mod authors who were kind enough to allow use of their clothing/armor assets in this mod worked hard on what they created. A list of all the outfits, with links to the mod pages, is in the credits at the bottom of the main mod page. If you like an outfit, please visit the original mod author's page, and download their file to get the full functionality.

Q: Can I use CBBE, Jane Bod, Atomic Beauty, Wonder Body, etc. with this?

A: A few NPC's in this mod use outfits that are CBBE based, and without CBBE, textures might look weird on them, but there are hundreds of NPC's in this mod, so it shouldn't materially affect your overall enjoyment of the mod.

If you don't like the body variations CBBE offers, you can install the CBBE Vanilla Nevernude body, and that will give you basically the same body as vanilla, but with access to more outfits, since most outfit mods are CBBE based.

If you have a strong preference for one body type over another, that's cool.  No need to leave a comment.  Everyone has their own taste.  As mod makers all we can do is try to make custom outfits compatible for the maximum number of users.

Valkyrie will equip a CBBE-based military outfit at one point in the quest.  If it's not to your liking, just trade with her to swap it out for something else.

Q: Can I use x, y, or z skin texture with this mod?

A: Sure.

Q: Can I customize the music in certain areas?

A: Yes. Go to the following folder: Fallout 4\Data\Music. For the Institute, there are 5 files that start with "Inst". Replace them with whatever tracks you want. For Club Snuggle, replace the file called PimpClubMusic.xwm.  For the Raider Bar, the 3 files are 1) KevinMacLeodChillWave.xwm, 2) KevinMacLeodEDMDetectionMode.xwm, and 3) TeknoAxeSpaceDockDanceParty.xwm. Just make sure you keep the replacement file names exactly the same as the originals.

So for example if you want your first Institute track to be "Gangnam Style", make sure it's not GangnamStyle.xwm, but rather retains the name of Inst01GasolineDiaries.xwm.

If you want to convert your music files from your personal library into .xwm format, this tool will do it. If you use Mod Organizer, access the music files by right-clicking the Outcasts and Remnants file (not Project Valkyrie), Open in Explorer, and then open the Music folder.

Or, to get alternate music in the Reformed Institute without doing any of the above, download the optional file, in the Files section, called "Project Valkyrie Boring Institute Music". This will give you mostly vanilla Institute music tracks.

Q: Can you include x, y, or z DLC asset (e.g. weight benches) in this mod?

A: No.  The goal is make this mod accessible to as many PC users as possible using vanilla assets + assets other modders generously allow to be included.

Q: Will you make a compatibility patch for <insert name of overhaul mod that is incompatible with every single mod in existence>?"

A: See compatibility section above and Known Issues for details.

Q: Will this mod work with <insert name of obscure mod that almost no one plays>?

A: There's a secret compatibility database that only mod authors know about here and here.

Q: Will this mod work with my mod list? <proceeds to list all 236 mods they are running>

A: Everything except immersivedeathclawrapecbbe4koverhaul.esp.

Q: I'm having trouble installing the mod with a particular outdated mod manager.

A: Google is your friend. GitHub and NMM forums too. If using NMM, use the version off Github, not the old Nexus version.

Q: I refuse to update my game because <reasons>. Can you make a special version of your mod just for me?

A: Compatibility patch for outdated game versions available here.

Q: Can you make a custom version of the mod just for me because I want features X and Y, but not Z.

A: Here you go.

Q: Nobody watches my YouTube channel and I can't get published anywhere so here's my 950-word review of your mod full of rambling inaccuracies because I didn't explore the mod or read the mod page.

A: Thank you for sharing.

Q: Will this mod be available on Xbox, Playstation, or Nintendo?

A: Atari 5200 only. Reasons covered here.

Q: I'm not here to download the mod, and I don't have a question, but here's my random sh*tpost.

A:  Try Reddit FalloutMods.

Q: Why is Valkyrie naked? I'm not a horny 12 year old so no thanks.

A: She's not unless you have a nude mod installed, but Nexus prohibits users under the age of 13 from having accounts, so you shouldn't even be posting here.

Q: I'm not going to play the mod, but here are all the things I don't like about it because it has this, that, and the other.... Oh wait, that's a different mod? Well, I still think this mod is horrible and ruins my immersion. I can't play Fallout 4 anyway because F4SE is broken.

A: Nexus Terms of Service.

Q: What's with all the passive-aggressiveness on these last few Q&A entries?

A: These are actual questions and comments received, multiple times, but who am I kidding?... No one making these comments is reading this. (End of sarcasm section)

Q: Is this a Beta? I don't download stuff until the bugs are worked out.

A: It's a full release. The mod was in beta for a month prior to release on Nexus. Before that, it went through dozens of iterations and was in development for about a year.

Q: Cleaned in FO4Edit?

A: Yes

Q: Posting Video of the Mod on YouTube?

A: All of the music in the mod is copyright/royalty free, so you can keep music on. If you do a full, blind YouTube play-through, those are sometimes helpful for mod development and updates to see what works or doesn't work as you play through. Especially if you're a regular guy/gal who just likes streaming games, your channel has light traffic, and you aren't monetizing your videos or using click-bait to drive views.

If you run a popular YouTube/Twitch channel where you monetize the work that mod authors provide for free, you may enjoy featuring something else more. When certain YouTubers edit and then misrep mods they cover in order to drive views to their channel, we are stuck for years answering silly questions from a portion of their viewers.

YouTube viewers who come to Nexus asking questions which are already answered at the top of the mod page, multiple times in the Articles section, and many times in the comments, is one thing. Stalkers is another. We can't have any of your viewers threatening voice actors. Since that happened with this mod, it's easier to just cut things off at the source going forward. If you don't post the video, your viewers won't see it, the trolls and stalkers from your audience won't know about it, and everyone's happy.

If you produce factual and intelligent Fallout 4 content (e.g. Gopher, Gamer Poets, Oxhorn, Juicehead, Vynilic Puma) and wish to feature the mod in your video, just ask. We'll almost certainly say yes, provided your comment section doesn't look like it was lifted from the movie Idiocracy, and you don't foster a community of mentally disturbed incels who ping-pong hate off each other using the sense of validation and entitlement they derive from your channel to reach out across platforms to harass or threaten mod authors and voice actors.

If you run a channel that makes it more difficult for us to use voice actors (because your viewers are threatening them) and provide mod support (because your viewers can't read at a junior high school level), we can't, as mod authors, support you in making money off work that we do for free. If that isn't quite clear, here's the psychology explained another way.

In the history of Fusion City Rising, Outcasts & Remnants, Project Valkyrie, after over 1 million downloads, we've had to block less than two dozen users for being idiots. That's a tiny percentage of the community, but too many of them self-identified as having come from specific YouTube or Twitch channels. We were tolerant of the B.S. until they threatened a child.

So here we are...
