Technical issues are listed first. Play-through issues are listed second. If you run across a bug, any detail you can provide is much appreciated.

General Modding Issues

This mod conflicts with x, y or z, because when I install, the mod manager asks if I want to overwrite the files from x, y, or z mod.

This mod uses assets, with permission, from lots of other mods.  When installing you might receive a message about whether you want to overwrite existing files.  Easiest to answer "no to all".

The following mods need to be BELOW Project Valkyrie and Outcasts & Remnants in your load order

Satellite World Map by Floor Below (otherwise map icons might not show up in the right places)

If you're running a mod that overhauls the interior of the Prydwen or Institute, put that mod BELOW OutcastsAndRemnants.esp and ProjectValkyrie.esp in your load order.  This mod doesn't move any vanilla assets in those cells, it only adds a few invisible objects like idle markers.  However, any Prydwen/Institute mod that moves things like vanilla walls, plane markers, room markers, etc, could cause visual glitches unless the other mod is below this mod in load order.

Examples include Elianora's Faction Housing Overhaul, Enhanced Prydwen Overhaul, Enhanced Prydwen Overhaul 2.0, Institute Rebuilt Prydwen Overhaul, A Sensible Prydwen Overhaul, Prydwen Player Home, David Hunter, Hilda Hughes.

Trouble installing with Nexus Mod Manager

Please refer to the main mod page, Required Files and Installation section.

My computer is weak or my game won't load or my FPS is low or my load screens take too long

FPS: Besides acquiring hardware that meets at least the specs recommended to run the game, you can improve your FPS by not using things like 8k skin textures, 4k outfit textures, ultra settings (especially on shadow distance and godrays), mods with scripts that constantly poll each NPC for data, the official HD texture pack, and mods that turn non-shadow casting lights into shadow casting lights. Unless you have at least an i7-4790k processor with a GTX1080 video card, you shouldn't be running any of the things mentioned above if solid frame rates are important to you.

This mod has bigger battles the vanilla, which puts higher load on your PC than vanilla during those encounters, especially if each of the NPC's in the cell has high-resolution textures as a result of another mod you're running.

Initial game load time too long or infinite black screen: Whether using a modded or vanilla game, some people have issues with this ever since Fallout 4 launched in 2015. No single culprit, different approaches work for different people. Here are some things you can try:

- Run the game in borderless windowed mode

- If you can spend USD $100, get an SSD instead of an HDD. Put your game, your mods, and your save games all on that same SSD drive. This will solve the issue of long load times for 95% of people and also make your in-game load screens much faster.

- Install Load Accelerator with FPSLimitInLoading = 350 (or higher) and FPSLimitInBlackLoading = 350 (or higher) in your LoadAccelerator.ini. The default with Load Accelerator is 350. I use 650. Some people go as high as 950. Just depends on your CPU. This should also make your in-game load screens lightning quick.

- Use Private Profile Redirector to streamline the way Fallout 4 accesses .ini files when loading up.

- Delete save files you no longer need if there are too many saves in your save folder (so there is less stuff for the game to load)

- If using an HDD, check the drive's health and defrag it.

- If your antivirus program is flagging Fallout4.exe and Fallout4Launcher.exe, create exceptions for them in your anti-virus program (or get a better anti-virus program) so the anti-virus program doesn't become a loading bottleneck.

- Run your mod manager in admin mode.

- If using Fallout 4 Script Extender, set f4se_loader.exe to run in admin mode.

- If using Steam Cloud Sync with Fallout 4, turn it off (Open Steam and navigate to your Steam Library, Right-click on Fallout 4 and select Properties, Select the Updates tab and uncheck the Enable Steam Cloud synchronization option, then click Close)

- If you've been shutting down your Fallout 4 game via console command: QQQ, try closing the regular way. Open the game, save, and then exit to desktop via the main menu. Then reload.

- Consider archiving your loose files if you're running large texture mods that aren't archived. This can shave off a few seconds for some people.

- Consider temporarily shutting off anything that tracks FPS (Riva Tuner, Nvidia) and check if that makes a difference.

- Run less mods. Each one adds a little bit of extra strain and takes thegame longer to load up. Quest mods and large texture mods tend to be heaviest.

- Upgrade your equipment (duh, but it makes all the difference even if you ignore everything else above).

Load screens: If you use lots of texture mods and have long load screen times, use Load Accelerator to speed those up. If you use an HDD, it's not 2010 anymore. SSD's are cheap and getting cheaper. You should be using an SSD if you're heavily modding Fallout 4. Compared to HDD, an SSD with Load Accelerator can reduce load screen time by over 80%.

I run over 500 mods for Fallout 4 (via merges) with an SSD and a mid-2015 GPU, graphics settings on max except shadow distance (Medium), shadow quality (High), god rays (High), and get solid 60 FPS with load screens under 10 seconds in downtown Boston + no crashes. It's possible if you approach mod selection prudently, verify what's in each mod you install, and follow best practices on your game setup and mod installation.

Textures are missing or something is invisible or the characters aren't talking, etc.

The mod didn't install fully. Make sure you have loose files enabled. Then reinstall the mod using a functional mod manager, and follow the directions on the main mod page exactly.

Play-through Issues

The vanilla quest "Emogene Takes a Lover" has bugged out on me.

If you're playing the mod on a relatively new game, two vanilla quests, "Special Delivery" and "Emogene Takes a Lover", are required before you can access Parsons Insane Asylum to meet Valkyrie. Both quests are given by Jack Cabot at Cabot House in Beacon Hill, just north of Downtown.

If you have any trouble with "Special Delivery", see here. If you have any trouble with "Emogene Takes a Lover", see here.

If you don't want to play the Cabot quests, and want to get straight to the quest where you meet Valkyrie, you can use the desk terminal on the second floor of Cabot House, in Jack's lab, to skip those quests, and move to the quest "The Secret of Cabot House", which is the quest that gives you access to Parsons Insane Asylum.

If the door to Cabot house is locked, and the intercom out front doesn't work, open the console, click on the door, and use console command: unlock.

Once you're given "The Secret of Cabot House" quest, you don't have to follow Jack Cabot to Parsons Insane Asylum. You can just fast travel and he'll meet you there.

If you really don't care about any Cabot plot involved in recruiting Valkyrie, you can also just head straight to Parsons Insane Asylum, and every time you encounter a locked door, unlock it by opening the console, clicking on the door, and using console command: unlock.  Meet Valkyrie, recruit her as a follower, then teleport back outside the building using console command: coc ParsonsStateExt.

If the step above is still too much work, you can avoid unlocking any doors by using console command: coc ParsonsState02. That will warp you into Parsons Insane Asylum. Then proceed down to the cell area and talk to Valkyrie, recruit her, then teleport back outside the building using console command: coc ParsonsStateExt.

One of the mod's companions got lost

Use the "Teleport OAR Companions to you" or "Teleport Valkyrie to you" holotape to teleport them back to you, which should be added to your inventory automatically after first meeting the companions. If you want one holotape to manage all the companions from Project Valkyrie, Outcasts and Remnants, Fusion City Rising, and Depravity, download Thug Co - The Companionator.

Valkyrie won't talk to me.

See the mod installation instructions, and reinstall the mod, following the instructions exactly. If NPC's don't talk, or a quest marker doesn't update, you're likely missing voice files or scripts as a result of an incomplete installation or you don't have loose files enabled.

I did that and....

Read the instructions again and follow exactly. Verify the mod files are showing up where they should be, and that you've enabled loose files and have activated the mod.

I'm having trouble with one of the mod's companions

Each companion comes with a holotape in their inventory called "OAR Companion FAQ and Troubleshooting". It's the same holotape for each companion, and the holotape contains all the details and any troubleshooting steps for each companion.  Read that holotape as a first step.

I'm having trouble getting the dialogue menu to come up when talking to Liberty Prime

Face the front of him and look at his lower left leg or lower right leg when initiating conversation with Prime. It might take a couple tries until you get the hang of it. In order to recruit Prime, the quest "Peace Through Superior Firepower" must have started. You aren't required to recruit Prime in order to completed that quest (but it helps).

I broke one of the mod's companions with AFT

You can run Amazing Follower Tweaks with Outcasts and Remnants, Project Valkyrie, and Depravity. However no support is provided for managing OAR/PV/Depravity companions with AFT.

There are two main ways of breaking followers with Amazing Follower Tweaks: 1) Importing A.I., and 2) Not dismissing all companions first and unmanaging them before uninstalling AFT mid-playthrough (not that you should ever deactivate complex mods mid-game).

AFT has several options when adding an NPC to manage, one for "Full Import", one for "Leave AI Intact", and one for "Follow only". Do not use "Full Import" on OAR/PV/Depravity companions. "Leave AI Intact" and "Follow Only" should be fine, but you're on your own.

If you screw it up, revert to an earlier save. You can try fixing a broken companion with console command: ResetAi, but it probably won't work. Or console command: RecycleActor, which could break things even more.

You can refer to this AFT Fact Sheet if you need more help with AFT.

In the buy/sell menu and trade menu, the dialogue wheel shows in the background.

The mod is set up so that on trade and buy/sell, the conversation doesn't end when done trading/selling. That way you don't have to start all over with a new greeting if you want to talk to the companions about something else.

My skin textures look weird on a few of the female NPC's

The military outfit Valkyrie switches into at one point is CBBE based. CBBE uses different UV maps than vanilla. If you don't like the outfit, ask Valkyrie to wear something else, or install CBBE. . Some of the outfits in Outcasts and Remnants are CBBE based as well. There are hundreds of NPC's in OAR, so it shouldn't materially affect your overall enjoyment if you don't want to run CBBE.

If you don't like the body variations CBBE offers, you can install the CBBE Vanilla Nevernude body, and that will give you basically the same body as vanilla, but with access to more outfits, since most outfit mods are CBBE based.

If you have a strong preference for one body type over another, that's cool.  No need to leave a comment.  Everyone has their own taste.  As mod makers all we can do is try to make custom outfits compatible for the maximum number of users.

Owen got big

There is a game engine bug where, after using furniture, kids sometimes get big and stay that way.  If that happens to Owen, open the console, click on him, and use console command: setscale 1. To prevent kids from getting big at all when using furniture, you can use a mod like Universal Actor Scale Remover.

The temporary follower (BoS, Deathclaw, Synth, or Pimp) I spawned with the relay grenade died.

Yes, that will happen.  The temporary followers are not marked "essential" or "protected".  They are meant to be temporary, and help you out of a jam when things get too tough. They will eventually die in battle, or you can kill them yourself if you don't want them anymore.

The relay grenades are given as quest rewards in various Institute quests:

- BoS follower relay grenades = Given by Sarah in the middle of "The Revolution will not be Televised".

- Deathclaw follower relay grenades = Quest reward for completing "Igor Fetch me the Brain" in the reformed Institute (see deathclaw terminal in Bioscience section of reformed Institute to get quest). Note: the deathclaws will not follow you inside, they'll wait outside.  Also, don't use the deathclaw relay grenades indoors.

- Pimp follower relay grenades = Quest reward for completing "It's not a party without patrons" in the reformed Institute (see Club SRB terminal in reformed Institute).

- Synth follower relay grenades = Given to you by Carter Beckett near the end of "The Revolution will not be Televised".

Once you run out of grenades, that's it, so use wisely. Throw the relay grenade to spawn the follower.

After receiving the quest "Lost in Transit, The NH&M Freight Depot map marker does not show up on my Pip Boy.

The depot is here. There's no quest marker. To access the depot you need to complete the quest "The Big Dig"

After first accessing the main area of the B.O.G bunker, I get several quest options. Which should I do first?

Up to you.  If you choose "In Plain Sight", that will take you on a path to fight the Enclave and then Vault-Tec. If you choose "Wag the Dog", that will take you on a path to overthrow the existing leadership of the Brotherhood of Steel and Institute.

If you choose "BOG Side Quests", you can just do side quests for them, although the quests available will depend on where you are in the story.

Or you can mix and match, and do the quests more or less at the same time, however Sarah and Owen aren't available as companions until the "Wag the Dog" quest.

If you're playing the mod for a second time, you might want to start with whatever option you didn't do first on your previous play-through.  If you take Sarah on the Enclave mission, she will have quest-aware comments for that.

The "Wag the Dog" quest is telling me to visit the Prydwen, but I'm enemies with the Brotherhood of Steel

Not a problem.  The mod will still let you access the Prydwen (if you haven't blown it up) and complete the quest. There might be some shooting involved.

The "Wag the Dog" quest is telling me to visit the Prydwen, but I blew it up already and can't access it

During the Quest "Wag the Dog", after you visit Chase's Bunker and talk to Sarah, one of the dialogue options will be to let Sarah know that the Prydwen has already been destroyed, which will skip you ahead to the end of the quest. If you miss that dialogue prompt, approach Sarah again and there will be another dialogue prompt to skip ahead to the end of the quest.

The "Wag the Dog" quest is telling me to visit the Prydwen, but the Prydwen hasn't arrived in the Commonwealth yet

Complete the vanilla main quest "Reunions" where you confront Kellogg.  Then the Prydwen will show up.

After "Wag the Dog", I want to be able to take Danse as a companion to the Prydwen without the BoS becoming hostile

When you complete, "Wag the Dog", Danse will be available as your companion (if he's alive), but if you've completed the vanilla quest "Blind Betrayal", the Brotherhood will attack Danse on sight.

This is a result of the DansePostQuestBoSHostilityScript.pex script that the vanilla game attaches to Danse's NPC record. This script fires every time you get close to the BoS with Danse, so setting Danse's enemy faction values one time doesn't work, because this script overrides whatever has been set each time you're near the BoS with Danse.

Altering this script is beyond the scope of this mod.

If you want to alter this script so that the BoS won't become hostile when Danse is with you (after "Blind Betrayal"), then download Danse Against the Brotherhood, and that will prevent the BoS from attacking Danse.

The "Revolution will not be Televised" quest is telling me to visit the Institute, but I'm enemies with them or got kicked out

Not a problem.  The mod will still let you access the Institute (if you haven't blown it up) and complete the quest. There might be some shooting involved.

During "The Revolution will not be Televised", Carter wants me to overthrow Institute management, but I like the Institute the way it is.

One of the dialogue options with Carter is to let her know that, which will skip ahead to the end of the quest.

During "The Revolution will not be Televised", Carter wants me to access the Institute, but I already blew the place up.

One of the dialogue options with Carter is to let her know that, which will skip ahead to the end of the quest. Or, if you don't want to miss any content, you can use a mod like Institute - Alternate End and Restoration to undo the effects of blowing up the Institute.

Even if you blew up the Institute, the mod will (by popular demand in beta testing) still let you access the reformed Institute, since there's quite a bit of additional content there once you access it.

Also, if you get locked out of the Institute and need to get back in, there's a holotape you receive during "The Revolution will not be Televised" quest, right after it sends you to the Institute. The holotape is called "Teleport to/from Institute". You can use this holotape to teleport in or out of the Institute, or to any of the main divisions within it, and it works regardless of whether you're kicked out or not.

During "The Revolution will not be Televised" one of the synths starts shooting at Allie

She's masterminding a coup. Resistance happens. Don't worry, she'll handle it.

Where did kid synth Shaun go?

Wherever you sent him. At end of "Revolution will not be Televised" quest, Synth Shaun approaches you, and you decide whether to abandon him, or send him to Sanctuary Hills, Reformed Institute, or BOG Bunker, and whatever you decide is where he stays.

Fast Travel became unavailable at some point

The vanilla game can bug out with that occasionally. Do console command: DumpInputEnableLayers
It should spit back some data. Look for Disabled Layers and the Fast Travel Disabled line, which will have a number after it (probably 0).
Then type: ResetInputEnableLayer #, but replace the # with the number (probably 0) and hit enter.
Then close console and try to fast travel again. Other potential fixes discussed here.

I got a little happy with the Teleportation Gun.  Where did those NPC's go?

To the Glowing Sea Detention Center, which is located south of Virgil's cave in the Glowing Sea. Play-through video here.

After completing "Wag the Dog" or "The Revolution will not be Televised", I have a couple unfinished vanilla faction quests in my quest log.

If you want to clear out those quests from your quest log, Google the name of the quest.  The first entry should take you to the Fallout Wikia page.  That page will list the quest stages and the 8-digit Form ID of the quest.  Let's say the last quest stage is 1000, and the Form ID of the quest is 00123456.  Then you would enter console command: setstage 00123456 1000.  That will advance the quest to the end and clear it from your log.

Sometimes, the last entry on the Wikia page for quest stages is a "Fail Quest".  Choose that quest stage where available, rather than the "Complete Quest" stage, to prevent the next quest after that from auto-starting.

After completing "The Revolution will not be Televised", I can't do photo shoot quests with Janet Thompson or Eve.

Choose to cancel the photo shoot on the same holotape that gave you the quest.

NPC's aren't spawning where they should, the area is empty.

Use hard saves as you play through, not quick saves or exit saves. If you don't see enemies or NPC's showing up where they should, exit the game completely (to desktop, not just main menu), and re-load the game. If that doesn't work and you've used quick saves or exit saves to reload the game, start from the most recent hard save.
