I don't own the DLC for Fallout 3, so I can't make the mod affect NPCs added by the DLC (engine limitation) unless the FOSE team has made a few extra gains since last time I checked. The subject of children is a lot more complex. You see ... Bethesda did a lot of stuff to make it really difficult for modders to make children mortal. So, it is definitely beyond the scope of this mod.
this mod is amazing i had another disable essential npcs mod and i had to disable after i was done if i want to do the story which was really annyoing but with this i can just not do anything to them while they are down and go from my kill everything save to my story good guy save without quiting thank you so much for this mod shame i did not find it earlier
I had thought of that, but ended up ditching the idea as it would make the mod require FOSE for just a little extra immersion. But, come to think of it, it may be possible without FOSE, and the scripts are so simple that maintaining two versions is pretty easy.
I like the concept of your mod. I think the only thing I would change is adding DLC support (I know you don't own the DLC, but it's a thought) and making the killing action a little more immersive. For example, have the player use his/her equipped weapon one more time execution-style... decapitating the opponent if you're using a melee weapon, possibly.
True. But even if I added DLC support, it would still have a problem with quest mods. The real problem is that the SetEssential function needs the base id. The Oblivion Script Extender had a SetRefEssential function, which would make this mod so much better.
A good mod. I don't like it when essential NPCs die because of a mistake, but it's also annoying to not be able to kill them at all.
Would be perfect with children and the DLCs included, though. Without the addons it feels a bit like unfinished business, but of cause if you don't own the them, you can't mod them.

Some time ago, Zumbs gave me permission to make an expanded version of his mod. If you're interested you can find it here.
If you like this mod I encourage you to endorse it though, and/or vote for it, and give Zumbs kudos, money, gifts, and sexual pleasure.
OK I guess you can skip the last step if you want.
