didn't do what i was hoping, just want a simple .esp or txt file or whatever that will set anyone i hire to be my companion as essential, this DOES NOT do that, so for me it is useless.
The way I do it is combine all txt files into one. In game, type bat1 (for example) and the text file WILL work. Taking this author's advice, I have done this for many of the mods I downloaded on here. It does work.
I know this is an old "mod", however it would be nice to also include scavengers and their dogs that appear on fixed locations, because they do not respawn after being killed. I love all the other characters that are included, now I never have to worry about the trade caravans disappearing for instance.
Scavengers are randomly generated every time you find one (they spawn far from you though), they also have random ref id's (i guess) meaning you can't know how to refer to them. Since you are playing on the PC you can simply open the console, click the dead scavenger when you find one, type 'resurrect' and done.
Might have been nice if this was a bit more clear it's not a mod but a batch command file for use with the console command.
Personally when I download mods doing things I could just do with the console, it's because I'd rather it be an integrated part of the game and not using the commands I could anyway.
For those asking how you install with fomod or anything, you literally can't theres nothing to "install" it's just putting the text files into the root folder of fallout 3 (the one with the exe). Though I'm not sure how the other txt files from mods such as FOSE would affect that.
Again, not a mod (its says in the readme he couldn't be bothered to make one), but a "lesson" that doesn't present all the information.
Considering if you have any mods that make changes to these NPCs, they could render this useless if it was a mod. Plus since it is as easy as Putting the file in the Fallout 3 Directory and just hit ` in game and type bat all(or the corresponding .txt you want) it saves a lot of work typing it in by hand.
I'm having trouble getting this to work. Do you put it in the Fallout3 folder where your saved games are or in the Fallout3goty folder that contains the data folder?
It goes in the same folder as your Fallout3.exe, not in the "Data" folder and not in the folder with your saved games.
I put it in with the .exe in the Falloutgoty folder. However, it doesn't seem to be working. Do I need to take the text files out of the NPC Essential folder? I've been just placing the entire folder in.

edit: the best effort so far is this

but there seems to be visual bugs with moira!
