NPC Essential v6.0
NOW includes merchants (and their guards and brahmin) and companions

=====Description:
This mod makes several "vulnerable" npcs in Fallout 3 to be essential. By "vulnerable" I mean "easy to be killed" without the player's knowledge. For example, if a deathclaw spawns in Arefu while you fast-travel there and you are not fast enough to save the townspeople, you are somehow to blame--- (Lucy West refuses to talk to you, the Family mocks you etc). So, in order to stop this from happening in Arefu (and other places in the Wasteland), I have created this mod.

=====NPCs Affected:
Arefu---
Alan Brailee Ewers Evan King Ian West Karen Schenzy Ken Ewers Lucy West
Reason they need to be essential: Creatures spawn in Arefu, killing the townspeople. This leads to unwanted gameplay effects.

Big Town---
Bittercup Dusty Flash Kimba Pappy Red Shorty Sticky Timebomb
Reason they need to be essential: SPOILER ALERT______________________ DON"T LOOK_____________Ok,,, in the quest, if you aren't proactive about taking down the muties in time, some of the people may get killed by grenades.

Caravan Merchants---
Crazy Wolfgang Crazy Wolfgang's Caravan Guard Crazy Wolfgang's Pack Brahmin Crow Crow's Caravan Guard Crow's Pack Brahmin Doc Hoff Doc Hoff's Caravan Guard Doc Hoff's Pack Brahmin Lucky Harith Lucky Harith's Caravan Guard Lucky Harith's Pack Brahmin
Reason they need to be essential: easily killed on their respective trade routes

Canterbury Commons---
Dominic D'Ellsadro Joe Porter Machete Uncle Roe
Reason they need to be essential: Sometimes Deathclaws can spawn in Canterbury Commons

Falls Church---
Initiate Pek  Paladin Hoss
Reason they need to be essential: killable while doing the unmarked quest named "The Lost Initiate".

Girdershade---
Ronald Laren  Sierra Petrovita
Reason they need to be essential: The truth is, only Ronald needs to be essential as sometimes he fights with radscorpions. The reason why I included Sierra was just to be safe. ;)

Jefferson Memorial---
Alex Dargon Daniel Agincourt Dr. Madison Li Garza Janice Kaplinski
Reason they need to be essential: Without saying too much--- they may get killed in one of the quests...

Lyons' Pride---
Knight Captain Colvin Knight Captain Dusk Knight Captain Gallows Paladin Glade Paladin Kodiak Paladin Vargas
Reason they need to be essential: Can be killed during final quest

Marigold Metro Station---
Doctor Lesko
Reason he needs to be essential: can be killed during a quest, resulting in the player being unable to receive his/her reward from him

Megaton---
Deputy Weld Lucas Simms Micky Stockholm Walter
Reason they need to be essential: Easily killed either by suicide or roaming creatures in the wasteland

Permanent Followers---
Butch DeLoria Charon Clover Dogmeat Fawkes Jericho Sergeant RL-3 Star Paladin Cross
Reason they need to be essential: So you don't have to worry about them dying...

Reilly's Rangers---
Brick  Butcher  Donovan  Reilly
Reason they need to be essential: Same reason as for the guys in the Jefferson Memorial--- they may get killed in one of the quests...

RobCo Facility---
Tinker Joe
Reason he needs to be essential: Roams around Robco facility on his own. Deathclaws are known to sapwn here at later levels...

Temple of the Union---
Alejandra Torres Bill Seward Caleb Smith Hannibal Hamlin Simone Cameron
Reason they need to be essential: They travel from the temple to the monument and are often attacked along the way

Temporary Followers---
Cherry  Sydney
Reason they need to be essential: So you don't have to worry about them dying...

Wasteland---
Ben Canning  Uncle Leo
Reason they need to be essential: Roam around Wasteland on their own

=====Installation Instructions:
Firstly, the mod is made up of text files. Yes, you heard right, they are text files, not esps. There are three reasons for this 1) I really don't want to download the GECK 2) I want to raise awareness about a relatively unknown function in Fallout 3 and 3)(Correct me if I am wrong)Doing it this way means that the changes are "save game transferable". If you bring your save game onto another machine, the changes will still be there without you needing to install an esp.

Extract the text files to your FALLOUT 3 FOLDER (NOT THE DATA FOLDER LIKE MOST OTHER MODS BUT YOUR FALLOUT 3 FOLDER). Its ONE FOLDER above your data folder.

Next, launch the game. Open the console by pressing "~" and type in "bat all". If you want only one area to have essential npcs then type "bat" and then the corresponding name of the text file. For example, for Canterbury Commons, it would be "bat Commons".

=====Uninstallation Instructions:
Just type in "bat off". This will work if you have used the "all" command or just the single "area by area" command.

===== History

13 August 2009 v1 ---Initial mod upload

06 September 2009 v5 ---Included Uncle Leo, Falls Church, Tinker Joe and Doctor Lesko

=====Things to do in the future:
--What if, you set Arefu and Canterbury Commons to have essential npcs but after playing you only want Arefu to have essential npcs? That is why I will make separate "off" files for each area soon. *done*

-- May include a merchant and follower pack in the future *done*

-- Despite what I said earlier, I may make an esp version of this mod in the next release, depending on the feedback of you guys as some may prefer the familiarity of esps.
