IF YOU ARE USING A STEAM GOTY VERSION OF YOUR GAME
THIS INFORMATION FROM Shinllers MAY HELP:

" I have the steam GOTY version. The patch seems to work fine. I also use FOSE, what I do is to rename fose_loader to FalloutLauncher (of course backup the original first) and use Steam to run the game. The same approach goes for New Vegas, but simply using a LAA patch doesn't work for New Vegas, you have to use FNV 4GB, I think it's because FNV uses steamworks like Skyrim.

As for NTCore's patch, it's actually a general LAA patch for ANY x86 exes, I presume it's generally the same as this one?

But I'm still not sure if Steam has any problems with modified exes, I'm in the steam client beta group and it doesn't seem to trigger any auto-updates unless I verify integrity, seems fine so far. "

    Thanks Shinllers!

so i just decided to play Fallout 3 for the first time in about 10 years. Is this "obsolete" or not? I have the Anniversary Patcher downgrader as well as FOSE installed and working just need to know if I actually need it to download some mods that require it.

As you are already using the Anniversary Patcher, you don't need this as that mod too makes the game Large Address Aware.

So is it possible that having a lot of texture packs installed with this is what's making my game crash every few minutes? I'm still not 100% certain the crashes are connected to this mod but I can't really imagine it being anything else at the moment.

So you posted without trying the obvious test, ie. trying the game using the original exe and comparing outcomes?

This mod is supposed to achieve the inverse of what you suspect is happening, ie the mod's sole purpose is to increase the addressable space the game occupies, thus enabling more mods and textures to be used without crashes occurring. If however you feel it is the cause of your crashes, then feel free to replace the modified LAA executable with your backup executable as described in the instructions and do a comparison test yourself. I'm not sure how that could actually be the case though, it's like blaming the medicine you are taking for giving you an illness that the medicine was actually prescribed to treat in the first place.

Thank you for this great mod NMC, I appreciate it and I am sure many other people do too. I am using the GOG version of Fallout 3 GOTY so it works right out of the box, however I was wondering how you get this to patch FOSE so I can use mods with the patch too, unless of course I only need to patch Fallout 3 which is already done.

I have to use mods because I have a slightly bigger monitor (2560x1080) and Fallout 3 was released a long time ago so of course it isn't natively supported. I'm still sort of confused as to if I even need to use it or not. Thank you.

Thanks Fujimara. The good news is that you don't need to make FOSE large address aware, the GOG Fallout3.exe already has it enabled, so you can simply load via FOSE and be sure your game is running with the Large address aware flag enabled.  You don't need this mod at all

I am not familiar with modding, so I may have messed up while downloading the file. My computer is not allowing me to download it as a zipfile. I probably screwed something up. Now I am stuck

i am sure you figured it out by now, but you would need to download a zip file program like this one https://www.7-zip.org/

Yes, I got it figured out.

This is 2 fake accounts run by 1 person answering themselves. Both first posts, which are simply test messages to see if they got flagged by Nexus as fake accounts before you then created many other fake similarly-named accounts where you tried to redirect people away from certain mods to other mods, by posting that this mod, the Fallout Stutter Remover mod and the Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch (and probably others too) are "Obsolete".

    Obsolete. Use Anniversary Patcher.

This still makes the game Large Address aware, so not obsolete. It does exactly what it is advertised to do. If The Fallout Aniversary Patcher by IStewie adds a few extras you want then use it. But this works at adding the LAA flag, and was the first mod here at Nexus to a do it, for any game. This mod also removes GFWL functionality.

However if another mod adds extra further functionality that you need then by all means use that instead. Or if indeed your version of the game is already LAA then this mod is obviously no longer required. No medals for realising those basic facts. But this mod still provides the ability to add the LAA flag to the game, and I released it way back in 2009 to be used in conjunction with my FO3 texture pack as it was necessary to limit CTD's and performance issues due to the extra burden the texture pack posed. No other mod for FO3 like this even existed as it was way before anyone had ever considered making the game Large Address Aware or why it was even necessary or had even heard of the LAA flag. So I had to do it myself. So no, not obsolete, it still does what it was intended to do.

PS, it looks like you have (had) multiple accounts (before they were all removed either by you or the moderators)- "deleted35501930" was used a few posts back on this mod page and this post  "deleted152049588". You also posted similar "obsolete" comments on the Fallout Stutter Remover mod using these other accounts "deleted41265010" and "deleted152049588" and "deleted165062823" and even "deleted150850238" where you again told others to use "Tick Fix" by IStewie or "IStewie's Tweaks" by IStewie and here you are telling everyone this mod is obsolete and to instead use Fallout Anniversary Patcher by IStewie. Funnily enough, NONE of these accounts have any of these mods by IStewie on their endorsed mods list.

Very interesting. I'd report you, but your actions speak for themselves and looks like either the moderation team here beat me to it, or more likely you closed all your fake accounts (all only open for a few weeks) before you got caught out.

It is 21st of November of 2021, as of this writing.  The Steam version of Fallout 3 GOTY got updated, deleting the need for Games for Windows Live, and ALSO, updated the exe file to support more than 2gb of memory. I double checked that with CFF Explorer. I just wanted to let you guys know. And i want to say BIG thank you to NMC for making this tool. much love <3

So, does it mean that this tool is no longer necessary after the 2021 Steam update ? Thanks for the info !

Edit : Sorry dumb question, the Fallout Anniversary Patcher explicitly says in the description it makes this mod redundant

Thanks for the heads up guys. I'm pleased to hear the Steam version has eventually been updated to add LAA (as the GOG version also was some time back) and about the recent Anniversary Patcher also including LAA too. I am pleased to see GOG, Steam and other modders implement and develop on my original discovery of the necessity for adding the LAA flag to the game after all these years, as no-one was even talking about LAA when I released this mod back in 2009 and when no other mods like this existed for any Bethesda games. Nice to hear the guys at Anniversary patcher mention my mod and acknowledge my original findings too, it's always to good to get an acknowledgement from fellow modders for your work and efforts, it's things like that which makes this modding community what it is today.

Not sure if your mod is redundant, but either way - Thank you very much! Mods like yours allows us players to have more than a few mods installed at a time without issues.

Can I get information on how to use this with fose_loader? I'm trying to use MO2, but I'm not sure if it's working correctly. Fose loads through MO2, but the "renaming the exe" trick doesn't bring up the steam overlay as intended. Can I even do that if I use this on the Fallout exe? Wondering if I should go back to FOMM. Thank you for any assistance.

Nevermind, I was being stupid. I fixed my issue.

having the same problem, having a brain fart probably but what was your solution?

Yeah nevermind, as I said, brainfart. You run it with fose and fose automatically uses the modified fo3 exe incase anyone in the future reads this
