i've spent a ton of time trying to get my game to not crash at the new game load. i really did not expect this to be necessary for my 5700 XT but here we are, this fixed it lmao.
New Vegas doesn't have the same issue for me (obviously i'm gonna pile mods onto both games for additional stability fixes but I mean comparing vanilla). Neither does any other dx9 game I've played recently.
So yes, when Bethesda is the entity that is the outlier and they haven't actually maintained their game for the majority of its lifespan, I am going to point fingers at them. When considering the fact that all their games need tons of fixes not to crash constantly or break, I think it's fair.
DirectX 9 kinda sucks anyhow, but when you get into DX11 where DXVK shouldn't have a benefit on Windows, and Fallout 4 still has a huge performance uplift from it, it becomes clear that Bethesda's graphics pipeline is dogshit.
For those of you looking this fixes the "New Game" crash on both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas for AMD cards that are too new. 6900XT over here myself and I've used it on a 5600XT and an RX 580 over the years. I just came back to comment because I forgot the name of this mod and was searching for hours. Simplest, effective fix without doing any extra work. Clean vanilla game.
Sorry to everyone that it didn't work. I just used 2 different methods and the game launched. Apart from this one follow the instructions on this forum https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2644976607
wow! Thanks so much! I have not been able to play FO3 for so long. I've tried everything I could find online and then just today heard of this mod. It worked! Thanks so much!!
Running 7900x3d and a 7800xt and unfortunately the mod allows me to get to the title screen but not past that. If there are any suggestions let me know would love to play this game again
