It just made all the best my experience in the game. It seems like such a small things won't do much to alter the feeling of something I know very well, since I have replayed FO3 quite a few times, but it actually does. Them small details... it is true.
Some files I had to delete since they reminded me immediatelly of S.T.A.L.K.E.R., a game I have played much more than Fallout 3; and also some other files of animals that I knew did not exists at all in this chunk of world, But the rest was just right on.
Unlike the persons that feel very bad about the dying dog, I understand (and hope) that such sounds are a fictional recreation and not a live recording of something actually dying, just like the shouts of suffering from humans in game are also fictional. That very sound chilled me hard when I was in the middle of a very dangerous situation, sneaking around and waaaay underarmed and suddently it hit for the first time. That part of my playthrough has now forever been branded in my personal game historical moments.
But it is very lifelike, so if you don't like listening to suffering, that is one more thing to delete, like gore and human shouts of pain. For sure.
I also have to say that even I was doubtful all those sounds of hawks, crows, loons and other not-present fauna wouldn't take me out of the moment, they didn't. They are so well mimetized within the environment by how far they sound and how they move, that you do not stop the fabricated disbelief. It is truly a very good addition to anyones mod arsenal. Thank you very much author. It is great.
I know this post is old, but I like the idea of making the game more authentic. Could you give me a list of the files you removed? You can use a tool like Winmerge to quickly compare the installed copy to a freshly decompressed copy of the mod.
SomethingDying.wav/mp3 is more than likely a suffering and dying cat. Of course, people who have had cats know how harrowing this is and people should not be rude and disrespectful to the fact that they may have lost their cat in this way. It sounds like it's being tortured, though... Either way, like people have said; You can delete the file and everything else should work none the wiser.
Thank you! I went and checked it out before loading the game, and I definitely would not want to hear that. I have never experienced that before, but its way to graphic compared to what I'm looking for.
If you don't want to hear some sort of animal screaming in pain go to... Fallout 3 goty\Data\sound\fx\amb\~regions\insects\wasteland\cricket then scroll all the way down and delete SomethingDying.wav
For me personally it doesn't do anything, it just sounds weird, I didn't even know what exactly it was. But I agree... the author should probably warn people about it, I can see someone being really disturbed by this
It's a game about a lawless wasteland you pussies. If you don't like it, take it out, but I think it adds immersion. If you think it's a cat(which I don't think they exist anymore), then it's probably being eaten by a radscorpion. If it's supposed to be a person, then they're being eaten by a radscorpion.
LITERALLY OFFENDED AT THAT DISGUSTING DYING SOUND DUDE. YOU SERIOUSLY MUST ADD SOME WARNING ASAP. SO DISTURBING I HAD TO CLOSE THE F** GAME. NOT FUNNY AT ALL.
Stating you are offended is basically saying you need the people around you to control your emotions for you. The mod can always be removed, or edited to your own taste.
im literally offended that youre overreacting as much as you are dude you seriously need to add a warning at the start of your post asap so disturbing i literally had to close the f*#@ing window not funny at all
The dying sound is pretty annoying and a bit disturbing. I also find some of the noises too loud. But I still recommend in 2022. Just delete the dying wav.
How is this supposed to work? I extracted it, the folder now looks like this: ...SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Fallout 3 goty\Data\Sound\fx\amb\~regions\insects\wasteland and there are 2 folders in wasteland (cricket, rustle) So I think this is correct But I don't hear any new sounds in-game? I suppose these should play in outdoor areas during day and night, but I don't hear anything new

Sounds very much like a cat being attacked, no idea what the author recorded for that clip.
