CharonImproved README

REQUIREMENTS You must have Broken Steel downloaded in addition to FO3 to play CharonImproved.

Version 1.2 Includes all updates that were in Version 1.1 Update 2. Here is the list of fixes from that last release:

Update V1.1 Update 2 incorporates all previous fixes and updates since the 7/11 Release of Version 1.1. and includes:
Fleeing bug has been fixed. (8/21/10)
Fixed where dialogue shows up when you talk to Charon about having that drink (8/21/10)
Added a few more lines between Charon and Sydney (8/13/10)
There was a report the quests in Chrome Hamster's Clover Perfected could not be completed with this mod active. That has been fixed. (8/13/10)
The other vanilla followers NPC records are no longer touched by this mod. (8/13/10)
All sound files are here (some were missing in the V1.1 7/11 release)
Broken Moriarty-Charon interaction is removed (broken in V1.1 7/11 release)


TO SET CHARON ESSENTIAL: Charon is set to
Essential by default. You can toggle that off in the Tactics menu if you wish.

ADVICE
1. You should always save before you enter the Ninth Circle to hire Charon. There is a bug that can occur that will mess up the
hiring process and make him unhireable. My mod doesn't make the bug happen more often, but it doesn't make it happen less either.
Just save right outside the door so if it does happen you can just reload and proceed.
2. For best results:
INSTALL THE MOD AND THEN HIRE HIM. However if you don't have any incompatible mods in your load order it shouldn't be a problem and you
can console the CTFTD. If you have deactivated a mod in your current game that he's incompatible with him to play this mod he may be
weird or buggy. So,that can be a problem. So I'd say go ahead and try and if it works great. If not save him for a new game.
3. If you are going to ask him to "learn" to use Energy Weapons, the best course of action might be to take away his superior "Personal
Weapons." You can do that in his Trade dialogue window. Otherwise he might never stop using the SG because they often better. If you
take the SG away he'll even use a Laser Rifle if it's in excellent condition.
4. When he goes on walkabouts in town, don't hover, just let him do his thing. Sometimes he'll just stand there for awhile or go part of
the way and then stand there. He's fine and will get there eventually.

INSTALL Unzip the downloaded file, move the folders into their appropriate destination folders in your Fallout 3 Data folder, don't
forget to check the CharonImproved.esp and go have some fun!

COMPATIBILITY/LOAD ORDER Charon is compatible with FWE. Charon isn't compatible with Phalanx. He can't be used with mods that script him,
like Companion Behaviour Overhaul. I've played with Better Companions and 0hFollowersHireContinued and he is fine if
CharonImproved is lower in the load order. I've also learned he shouldn't be used with SCC.
If you want other vanilla companions with you to benefit from FollowersRelaxed load it after CharonImproved, but
be aware that it will mess up Charon's wait, but it won't break him in any way.

KNOWN ISSUES OR BUGS
1.However, starting him in the middle of an existing game, with mods that could have been in
conflict with him, even if you have deactivated them, may cause him to act in unusual ways. This may be controllable
by calling him back with the CTFTD, or he may never act correctly. If you can get him to behave great. If not you may
have to save the mod for playing in a brand new game.

2.When playing with Arwen's Tweaks Charon may not talk to Sydney immediately after the player agrees to work
with her during the Stealing Independence Quest. I believe this happens because the aggressiveness of the Super Mutants
somehow interferes with the triggering of Charon's line. I don't know why though. He will say his next line to Sydney
just fine and talks to the player about Sydney later. This lack of a first line, and the potential for the second line
to not be heard because of Button's shouting may make the player-Charon discussion of Sydney seem out of context and
confusing. I'm thinking any mod that increases the aggressiveness of the Super Mutants might cause this same issue.

Thanks especially to Bonedog for his insight in how to solve the problem with followers always pulling their weapons out. I hate that!
