FABLE ANNIVERSARY: REDUX
v2.13
An overhaul mod by Alexander The Alright
-----------------------------------------
Installation Guide:
NOTE: This mod only works in Chicken difficulty (unless you rename game.bin and script.bin to gamehard.bin and scripthard.bin. This should work, but I've not tested it).
You MUST have Freeroam set up, and you MUST have access to the Modding DLC if you use the umap files. Also, ALWAYS HAVE BACKUPS of your unmodded files!

Instructions for first time install

1)Install Freeroam first https://www.nexusmods.com/fableanniversary/mods/25 OR find it online.
2)Make backups of game.bin, script.bin and your FinalAlbion folder, as well as your bones and CookedPC Levels folder if you use the bone and umap files.
3)Place the modified game.bin and script bin into your Development folder.
(X:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fable Anniversary\WellingtonGame\FableData\Build\Data\CompiledDefs\Development)
4)Place the modified FinalAlbion folder into your Levels folder, and press yes when it tells you to merge and replace.
(X:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fable Anniversary\WellingtonGame\FableData\Build\Data\Levels)
5)(OPTIONAL) Place the umap files into the Unreal Level folder (YOU NEED TO HAVE THE MODDING DLC INSTALLED FOR THIS TO WORK IN-GAME)
(X:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fable Anniversary\WellingtonGame\CookedPC\Maps\Levels)
6)(OPTIONAL) Place the hero_strong and hero_berserk files into your Bones folder
(X:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fable Anniversary\WellingtonGame\FableData\Build\Data\Bones)
7)Start a new game! Launch the game in MODDED GAME mode if you have the umap files installed or launch it normally if you don’t.

Instructions for updating from pre v2.0

1) Copy game.bin and script.bin into your Development folder. Press yes when asked to replace
(X:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fable Anniversary\WellingtonGame\FableData\Build\Data\CompiledDefs\Development)
2) Place the modified FinalAlbion folder into your Levels folder, and press yes when it tells you to merge and replace.
(X:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fable Anniversary\WellingtonGame\FableData\Build\Data\Levels)
3)(OPTIONAL) Place the hero_strong and hero_berserk files into your Bones folder
(X:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fable Anniversary\WellingtonGame\FableData\Build\Data\Bones)
4) Launch the game in MODDED GAME mode if you have the umap files installed or launch it normally if you don’t. You don't even need to start a new game, but it may be worth doing anyway to appreciate the new changes!

Instructions for updating from v2.0 and later

1) Copy game.bin into your Development folder. Press yes when asked to replace
(X:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fable Anniversary\WellingtonGame\FableData\Build\Data\CompiledDefs\Development)

Changelog
v2.13
- Reduced the amount of exp certain spells give you upon use
- Multi Strike costs slightly more Will to use
-----------------------------------------
v2.12
- Fixed the Harbinger losing its equipped augment after unequipping the weapon
-----------------------------------------
v2.11
- Fixed the hero_strong.bncfg file making your late-game Heroes look skinny/weird!
-----------------------------------------
v2.1
General Tweaks/Balance
- The Greatwood Lake crash that some people are having SHOULD now be fixed
- You will now unlock a Super Flourish once Physique is maxed out. Every flourish you perform will have a chance of being a Super Flourish: Super Flourishes are faster attacks that deal double damage - and with heavy weapons - will have a chance of decapitating enemies. This will only occur with a combat multiplier of 15 or higher!
- You will now unlock the Pugilist's Flourish once Physique is maxed out. Every unarmed flourish you perform will have a small chance of doing 10x damage. This will only occur with a combat multiplier of 10 or higher!
- The later levels of Toughness have been slightly nerfed. Instead of resisting 50% of damage taken at Level 7 (without armour), you will now only resist 45%
- The hero_strong bncfg file has been edited to make the Hero's shoulders broader
-----------------------------------------
Enemies
- There are now some new enemy spawns around Albion after the human Jack fight
-----------------------------------------
Locations/Quests
- Some new chests have been added that can only be found after the human Jack fight
- Some quests have had their renown values changed - later game quests and the Arena now grant more renown. Some bronze quests now give less
-----------------------------------------
v2.0
General Tweaks/Balance
- The Greatwood Caves Demon Door now only requires a combat multiplier of 24 to open (it was 28 in older versions)
- The Northern Wastes Balverines use their correct armour type
- The upgrade cost of the first level of (almost) every spell has been decreased
- The upgrade costs of some level 2 and 3 spells have been changed
- The last level of every spell has been buffed
- Some levels of Guile have been buffed
- Physical Shield will no longer make a buzzing noise
- Marrying Lady Grey is meant to be the evil option - and the mayor herself is evil - yet in the base game, she hates evil characters. This has been changed, and now she prefers evil, lower-attractiveness characters. She'll be more dismissive of high good/high attractiveness heroes when they interact normally with her, but will still react positively to flirtatious expressions regardless of the hero's alignment/attractiveness (I can't change this, don't ask)
- Marriage in general has been buffed - with gifts being more expensive over time and sex being offered more frequently (good for the Bordello Demon Door if you don't want to spend gold there)
- Some shops now have a lower sell price multiplier, so it's harder to do the buy/sell exploit
- You now finish the Guild with more experience points
- The Hero loses weight faster
- Combat Multiplier thresholds have been increased - so getting hit once at (for example) 40 combat multiplier won't leave you with a multiplier of 10 anymore
- Will Regen (without augments) is now slightly slower
- Max Health and Will have been increased. Health and Will gained per level aren't affected by this, but it means Elixirs and Blueberry Pies are more useful in late-game
-----------------------------------------
Enemies
- Bandits have been rebalanced. This includes health points and spawning patterns. (harder later on, easier at the start)
- Late game enemies (mainly Northern Wastes enemies) have had their health increased
- Snowspire Guards have had their health increased and have been given new weapons
-----------------------------------------
Weapons/Augments/Armour
- Sharpening Augmentations have now been reworked into being a “bleed” style augmentation, which is strong against human/flesh enemies. They no longer give a large damage increase
- All augmentations now give a slight damage increase. This should help make NPC weapons feel powerful early on but get weaker later-game, and help to buff weaker legendary weapons
- All bows now start the drawing back animation quicker, with some bows being faster to start charging than others
- Reworked repeater crossbows. Instead of firing that pointless 2nd arrow, they now act as faster shooting crossbows. Their damage values are inbetween longbows and crossbows
- Some legendary one-handed weapons are now classified as Heavy. They're still one-handed, but will need 3 physique to wield. These weapons include the SoA/Avo's Tear, The Avenger, The Bereaver and The Harbinger
-----------------------------------------
Locations/Quests
- The Guild "leaderboard" item (just before the Tavern entrance) is now readable and has some flavour text
- Knothole Glade now has a new unique NPC - she can be married and can follow the Hero like any other villager
- Added some NPCs to a few settlements and to Lookout Point
- More wasps will spawn during the Wasp Menace Quest
- More Bandits will spawn during the Trader Escort Quest
- Some later-game Silver Quests now give more renown and gold - and require a certain renown level to start
- Small tweaks to chest/fishing spot loot
-----------------------------------------
Items
- Crunchy Chicks and Tofu give more evil and good points respectively
- The JoB Hero Doll is worth more gold
- The Chin Beard from the Bargate Prison quest can now be found as a style card somewhere in Albion
-----------------------------------------
FAQ’s

Q: Is this a difficulty mod?
A: Sort of. The game is harder than vanilla and heroic, but to call it a difficulty mod wouldn’t be doing it justice. FA: REDUX is a complete rebalance/redesign of the game, which attempts to keep the spirit of Fable the same. I wanted to make it so that all the side stuff you can do is actually important and viable, as opposed to just messing around and killing time like it used to be. I also tried to balance the alignments, so that being evil isn’t easy mode anymore.

Q: Is this recommended for beginners/first time players?
A: For people who’ve played games before but not Fable? Sure. For people who’ve never really gamed before? No, probably not.

Q: Are enemies and bosses damage sponges now?
A: Nope. While it’s true that enemies and bosses have buffed health and hit harder, the main increases in difficulty come from the sheer number of enemies you face, the increased prices of useful items and the amount of exp required to max out stats. To balance this out, spells, legendary weapons and augmentations have been reworked so that you start out weaker and end up stronger. Some bosses have also had their spells edited.

Q: Where are the new silver key locations and where are the dolls?
A: Not telling! All I’ll say is that some new items may need Freeroam in order to be accessed, but they’re not in such obscure locations that they’re impossible to find. Locations of Silver Key Chests, Silver Keys and the Dolls can be found in my Discord Server1

Q: Why does the Bowerstone Quay chest look funny?
A: No idea. For some reason, the lighting in the barns is weird. Using the lamp fixes it though.

Q: Why doesn’t Multi Arrow work for the DLC bows?
A: I think it’s due to the fact they fire projectiles instead of arrows. Originally this was unintentional, but on reflection, I think it makes up for how OP the bows are.

Q: What happens if I play in Heroic mode (without renaming Redux's .bin files?
A: Heroic mode's game and script haven’t been touched, so you’ll be playing vanilla Heroic mode, just with the changes to the levels (e.g. the new silver key locations + extra chests). It also means you’d be able to hunt for the Hero dolls AND win them at taverns (which in theory means you can complete the quest twice). FA: REDUX will only work as intended on Chicken difficulty. If you want to play vanilla Heroic without the map changes, just swap out my FinalAlbion folder and umap files for your normal version and start a new game.

Q: Will this work on Xbox 360?
A: Nope.

Q: Will this work for TLC?
A: Nope.

Q: Can I still get Steam achievements?
A: Yep! Apart from the Great Balls of Fire achievement, as this mod requires you to play on Chicken difficulty (unless you rename the game.bin and script.bin files but this is untested).

Q: What are the optional bncfg files?
A: These are the bone files I use to make my hero look bigger and buffer. They’re completely optional.

Q: Is this compatible with ____?
A: Probably not. Anything that edits the game.bin and script.bin files or the FinalAlbion folder will not be compatible. Texture/mesh edits should be fine though, as long as you have the Modding DLC. My Postgame encounters mod IS more or less entirely compatible, however.

Q: I’m getting crashes/freezes/lag at _____
A: If I can’t replicate the crash (for example, some people seem to get a crash when levelling up skills at the Guild), then I can’t help you. Overhaul mods can be weird: some people breeze through them with no crashes whatsoever, whereas other people get frequent crashes and have a lot of issues. All I can suggest is uninstalling and reinstalling everything (the base game and REDUX), closing other processes while in-game, or trying different things to work around the issues. Sorry!

Q: Will you be updating this mod?
A: Nope. Anniversary modding is a lot more limited than TLC. If you want something bigger and better than Redux, try Fable: Aeon Edition - an overhaul mod I've made for TLC!

Known Bugs and Workarounds

BUG: If you pick up a new weapon, press the wield button when the weapon pops up on the screen, and then try to augment it in the weapons category, the game crashes.
FIX: Don’t press wield straight away and augment the weapon before equipping it (I would fix this properly but I have no idea where to start).
BUG: Sometimes certain weapons (I think it’s just the Minion NPC ones) will “disappear” after using a spell and you’ll attack unarmed but with an invisible weapon in your hand.
FIX: Sheathe and unsheathe.
BUG: Sometimes Minion NPC will be sheathed and look weird.
FIX: Unsheathe and sheathe again. The weapon will be sheathed invisibly (like how Crossbows sheathe).
BUG: [RARE] If you pick up your lost belongings from Bargate Prison and the last weapon you used was a Minion NPC one, it’ll stay sheathed weirdly on your back. If you leave the room with it equipped and then unsheathe it, the game will crash and if you load that save, you’ll lose all your stuff.
FIX: When you open the chest, change to another weapon (I used weapons that were already in-game for this), leave the room and check that the game doesn’t crash. You should then be able to use your Minion weapon again with no problems. Also make sure you have an extra save (for me, it was where I was still in the cell with the key) available, so you don’t risk losing your items. Unsheathing and sheathing again without leaving the room may fix this, but I'm not sure.
BUG: Like in v1.0.X, the Lost Bay can sometimes get stuck on an infinite loading screen and freeze. This happens especially when you have a save where you’re in the Lost Bay.
FIX: Apart from hope and crossing your fingers, try to make sure you don’t save in the Lost Bay. This glitch only seems to happen in MODDED GAME for some reason, so if you’re not using my umap files, don’t launch the game in MODDED GAME mode.
BUG: Sometimes launching in MODDED GAME mode causes Fable to straight up not load sometimes.
FIX: Like the last workaround, only play in MODDED GAME mode if you’re using my umap files. If you are using my umap files, just try again or restart Steam and it should be fine.
BUG: The axes that villagers drop face the wrong way when equipped
FIX: None. This is purely a visual thing, and I don't have the 3D modelling experience to fix it.
BUG: If you kill any Bowerstone South children before finishing the Book Collection quest, then the book cutscenes will have the children missing (including their voices)
FIX: None.
BUG: When you kill children, their bodies float in the air before vanishing
FIX: None.
BUG: Some one-handed weapons are incorrectly listed as Heavy (and don't require 3 physique to wield)
FIX: None.
BUG: The Scythe Hero Doll can be awkward to pick up from certain angles
FIX: None.
BUG: Some enemies will appear to drop items, but not give you any items upon pick up
FIX: None.
BUG: If an enemy gets stuck outside of the map, they’ll stop moving and attacking, but you can still attack them
FIX: None.
