About this mod
Make the Lands Between a little more confusing with this mod, which has run all of the text and voiced audio in the game through machine translation until it's almost understandable. Or not understandable.
- Permissions and credits
Menus may be a little difficult to navigate, given the, uh... poor translations. This is working as intended.
Inspired by the existing cohort of poorly translated FromSoft mods:
- Dark Souls Poorly Translated Edition
- Dark Souls 2 SotFS - Poorly Translated Edition
- Dark Souls 3 Poorly Translated Edition
Installation
This mod currently requires an unreleased preview version of ModEngine2, which is required to load custom sound files! Once ME2 is updated with these changes, this mod will get updated as well.
- Download the preview version of Mod Engine 2 from here: https://github.com/vswarte/ModEngine2/suites/15897987865/artifacts/907362117 (GitHub source)
- Extract the contents of this mod into the `mod` directory inside ME2
- If you have other ME2 mods you want to use alongside this, move those from your previous ME2 into this version's `mod` directory as well
- Launch Elden Ring from the mod loader using `launchmod_eldenring.bat`
Installation with Elden Ring Item and Enemy Randomizer
Using this mod with the randomizer requires an additional step, since the randomizer normally uses its own copy of ME2:
- Follow steps 1 and 2 of the regular install above ⤴
- Randomize your game however you'd like, but make sure to:
- unselect the Enemy Randomizer setting "Edit boss names"
- use "Merge other mod" and select this mod's directory
- hints from Kalé must be disabled otherwise the randomizer will fail to merge the mods
- In your preview version ME2 directory (where Poorly Translated Edition is installed), open `config_eldenring.toml` and add in your path to the randomizer above this mod, so that the `mods` section of your file looks something like this:
mods = [
{ enabled = true, name = "randomizer", path = "C:\\path\\to\\randomizer" },
{ enabled = true, name = "default", path = "mod" },
] - Launch Elden Ring from the mod loader using `launchmod_eldenring.bat`
Notes
- Translations were generated using Argos Translate and translating from English to random languages a few times before going back to English
- Voice lines were generated using XTTS2 using all of the base game's voice lines as sources
- thanks @sekirodubi ♥ for the WEM talk map which was super helpful
- thanks @chain ♥ for the ModEngine2 ER sound loading updates
- A few cutscenes are prerendered and so don't have poor translations in them, including the very first cutscene in the game, and the one introducing the Radahn festival
