Many questions crop up about how Reforged will handle the DLC release, and here's our answers.

Compatibility update (Play current Reforged on latest update)

We have released the 0.13.1 update, which lets you play Reforged, in its current state, on the latest game version.

DLC update (DLC content available in Reforged)

It will take longer to prepare the "full" DLC update. There will be a lot of new content that will all need to be tweaked by hand to fit the Reforged balance. Old content that was potentially changed, will also need to be returned to compatibility.

This will take a lot more work. We cannot commit to a date for this update. I would not expect it to be much longer than a month, but this is a completely uncommitted statement that may be entirely false. Any dates or estimates you see flying around in regards to this update will not be accurate. We simply do not know the amount of work involved, and how quickly we will be able to work it off.

There may be "early access" beta patches where we allow restricted access to DLC areas for testing, but don't expect them to be functional, and be ready for things to go wrong and saves to break if you opt to use this.

Common worries

Your saves will be fine, but if you're worried, you can simply back up your save folder (a shortcut to your save folder can be found in the mod's "troubleshooting" folder).

Seamless Coop

Seamless Coop is about to break with the DLC pre-patch today, and will likely remain broken for quite a while before the rewritten, updated version is released.

If you want to seamlessly (hehe) continue your current co-op run at the expense of experiencing DLC, I recommend that you disable automatic updates on Steam, in order to keep playing with your friends (who should be instructed to do the same).

More detailed instructions and support can be found on the Seamless Coop Discord server.

Non-DLC support

Reforged development will be discontinued for non-DLC versions of the game.

We will keep the last non-DLC version of the mod up on the Nexus, however FromSoftware will be releasing game updates independent of the DLC, which in turn will quickly make that Reforged version incompatible with the game.

You would have to get an older version of the game to continue playing that last non-DLC version. We cannot offer any support on this process.

There will be absolutely no tech support for non-DLC Reforged, and you will be on your own when it comes to issues with it.

We reserve the freedom to withdraw all download links for non-DLC Reforged and restrict conversation about it in the case that it incurs a heavy tech support strain on us.

A refresher on game versions (DLC pre-patch)

  • Every mod needs to be updated for a new game version.
  • Playing a mod made for an old game version will cause "Save file corrupted" or similar errors.
  • Using a DLL mod made for an old game version will cause crashes on startup.
  • When the game releases a new patch, Reforged will need to update.
  • As Reforged now bundles DLL mods, those mods will also need to update separately; until then, we may release a "lite" version with those DLLs disabled.
  • As we use the Alt Saves DLL to control the save file extension, this may lead to your saves being temporarily unavailable.
  • If you haven't updated the game yet: Right-click "Properties" on ELDEN RING in Steam, and disable auto-updating.
  • If you have: Either wait for the mod to update, or get the older version of ELDEN RING by following these instructions.

Alternate downpatch instructions by a Reforged user:

Those who want to rollback and play ERR while waiting for DLC:
open steam's CMD (help: steam://open/console) then:
download_depot 1245620 1245621 4586391483365949586
download_depot 1245620 1245624 4173907165901381087

Then go to your install folder and delete (or save elsewhere) the steamapps\common\ELDEN RING\Game folder.

Place the game folder back from the downloaded manifests. Run the game from ERR launcher

Summary
  • DLC pre-patch is supported!
  • You are able to continue your current Reforged gameplay, on the latest version.
  • We do not know how long it will take to support DLC content in Reforged.
  • The DLC will be required to continue playing Reforged.
  • Your saves will be fine, but if you're anxious, back them up.
  • If you're running a Seamless Coop campaign, take precautions for Seamless breaking indefinitely.
