A quick and simple merge guide: Rename the data3.pak to data3.zip Inside the file navigate to the data folder (Data3.zip/data) Place musicpresets.scr into the folder Rename the .zip back to a .pak
If you want to make the change for The Following DLC here's a guide as well: Rename DataDLC17_1.pak to DataDLC17_1.zip Inside the file navigate to the data folder (DataDLC17_1.zip/data) Place musicpresets_wasteland.scr into the folder Rename the .zip back to a .pak
Hi there I haven't been working on this mod for quite some time but this has been a known issue for some months, if I end up taking the time to fix it I'll throw out an update. Thanks for letting me know!
sorry for the late reply but i modified musicpresets.scr and musicpresets_wasteland.scr located in the Data3.pak and DataDLC17_1.pak files respectively
Hi. I just wanted to note that the issue of needing an update to the mod after every game update due to stuff not working or displaying correctly doesn't need to be an issue.
These problems are caused due to replacing the entire Data0.pak file (which is not for mod use) just to alter a single file. Since every file in that pak file is out of date when a game update releases, stuff displays incorrectly or doesn't work properly at all due to the rest of the game's files being updated and changed except those in this pak file.
If you instead place your single, modified 'data\musicpresets.scr' file into the Data3.pak file (which is for mod use) and in the same directory structure as the original file (Data3.pak > 'data\musicpresets.scr'), the mod will work fine and continue to work fine regardless of game updates. The only update that might be needed down the road is if a game update adds or changes something in that one file, which is unlikely as that file is rarely altered by game updates.
Regarding the DataDLC17_0.pak for The Following, the situation is the same. You can put the 'data\musicpresets_wasteland.scr' file into the DataDLC17_1.pak file that is empty and used for mods for that DLC instead of replacing the entire DataDLC17_0.pak file. That musicpreset file is also rarely if ever altered by game updates, so only compatibility updates might be needed in the future if it does happen to get altered.
Switching to the single files being in the empty mod pak files instead of replacing the entire vanilla pak files that are full of other files should lessen or remove any issues of compatibility with game updates.
You're welcome. I thought it might help a bit with saving you some time in the future so your mod would be more compatible with game updates and would not require an update itself each time to fix things, and also help with making it easier for users of your mod to merge it with other mods since it is just the one or two files that would need to be merged with other mods.
