Thanks for the mod, it really helped with getting used to the controls when starting my first play through, as otherwise I'd've'd to check the controls menu constantly. Minor nitpick, but could you make it so the button prompts in 2D mode also show keyboard keys? I find it rather annoying when I go into Tickington and all the prompts swap to controller inputs.
Huge thank you! Picked up this game from the recent Steam sale and was instantly hit with Xbox prompts, so I needed this. a QWERTZ version would be welcomed but the biggest problem has been solved.
I probably won't have time to backport this mod for OG anytime soon, but i'm open to it.
I'd say 'sure', but I don't want to set the wrong expectation. I will say, by the numbers, OG these days has a far smaller playerbase than DE -- that doesn't mean it's not worth backporting mods for it, just that with a limited amount of time I can invest, I'd rather focus on the newer version.
Chances are that a(nother) 50% discount is coming down the line here in a few months (if not sooner), and we'll likely see another massive jump in new players on DE similar to what we saw last April.
That said, if someone else wants to do so for OG, I'd be very happy to help them. We have a lot of tools & resources on our Discord for exactly this!
To be fair, the original (OG) version was really no different in this regard: they included Xbox button prompts by default, as that tends to be the most common xinput controller on PCs.
IMO, the mouse & keyboard controls are pretty intuitive with this game. I fully expected to have to switch to controller to enjoy it (being a traditional RPG and all), but just learning left click as your "A" button and right click as your "B" button - I was good to go.
100% had to switch to classic battle camera under System Settings tho, the free-roam battle camera was a massive annoyance. (If DQ12 is like that, I can guarantee you I won't be buying it until we can mod it to fix that)
I feel like the "lazy port" narrative tends to gloss over the finer details of the porting process. A lot of people have unfortunately been misinformed by gaming "journalists" that haven't done the slightest bit of research: this is not identical to the Switch port (although it is close, in many respects).
We (the modding community) have dumped the files from every version of the game, and I can 100% tell you there was additional time put in on this release. From what I can tell, however, it was just a few developers left to do this port as most of the team was (presumably) brought over to work on DQ12. We have a handful of developer comments left in the files to give us some indication of this.

The PC controls are terrible - again, very lazy port - but at least getting accurate tooltips help a lot!
