I cannot find any error with the black mabari mod that would cause the dog to turn white, and as far as I can tell it's not an issue with the mod itself. Steps I followed were:

    1) Downloaded Black mabari zip file from the DA Nexus (in case it was accidentally the wrong file or corrupt)

    2) Unzipped the files and visually checked that c_doga_0d.dds, c_doga_0dl2.dds and c_doga_0dl3.dds are all showing the black dog recolour (depending on OS you may need the nVidia DDS Utilities downloaded and installed to be able to view DDS files). Picture of how it should look can be seen at http://msbarrows.tumblr.com/post/59210620648

    3) Moved the files into a sub-directory of the My Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\packages\core\override\ directory, and made sure I'd removed any previous recolour I was using

    4) Loaded game, went into a save file where the mabari was in group, looked at mabari from various distances. In my game, the mabari remained black at all times when using the files downloaded from the Nexus.

My only suggestion I can think of at this point is that anyone experiencing this problem run a search for c_doga*.dds on their packages\core\override\ and modules\Single Player\override\ directory trees to make sure that they only have one override for the mabari installed.

It's also possible that there's an error with one of the kaddis textures that is causing the problem; anyone experiencing the white mabari problem, please let me know if your dog was wearing kaddis at the time, which one, and if the problem went away if you removed the kaddis.

The final possibility I can think of is that somewhere out there on one of the download servers there is a corrupted version of the zip - try redownloading from a different server to see if that makes a change. Beyond that - no idea.

The Sky Dragon Kaddis overlaps textures, making any modded dog look mainly white.

Hi, just incase anyone is still having issue with the white Mabari issue, the JB3 mod has textures for the dog skin in the JB3 subfolder in override, simply copy this mods textures there and it works fine for me with the warpaint as well

These are all fantastic. Still using this mod in 2025! The Norwegian Elkhound is my favorite.

For those hitting the issue of Mabari's turning white at a distance.

I had the same problem and none of the comments below seemed to be fixing it. But then I eventually realized, if you're using the Dragon Age: Origins Modmanager and uninstalling mods, it's not actually uninstalling them. The old versions are still being left there in your override, so once I went into the override and deleted the duplicate files manually, the bug fixed itself.

(For those curious, I wasn't ripping out mods midplaythrough. I was recompiling existing mods, cause I had JB3 and was trying to put this mods files into the JB3 folder, as another user suggested).

For those who want to use this mod but their Mabari is white and they're not using JB3 textures which overwrite this mod.. just heads up
    Dragon Age Origins Unofficial Remaster
also clashes with this mod and has textures for "c_doga_0d.dds" etc for Mabari which are white, so if you use that mod you need to delete those c_doga files from there so these ones can take effect....

On max graphic settings the black recolor looks like plastic in game. Not sure why but it's super shiny. I am going to try the white.

Recently I created a FOMOD version of Mabari Recolors for my personal use with Vortex mod manager. With your permission I'd like to post it on its own page or send it to you so you can post it here. It includes all the current mabari recolors.
Thank you, this is one of my standard, every playthrough mods and  enjoy it immensely.

Thank you so much! Before for some reason my dog was changing colours and being grey and its portrait had no textures and would go from grey to dark to brown and just flicker now I have a dog that isn't doing that and I love the brindle one! I wish you a fantastic day
  10. Hello,
I'm DarkAngelPoison8990! So I have downloaded this mod and use it quite a bit. I recently started recording DAO and show off this mod in that video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_oWK_Vwom0&feature=youtu.be is the link to that video if anyone is interested in checking it out. If the link doesn't show look for "DAO FemaleHuman Rouge" by Josie Bear.
